Send in the Clones!

By DailyRich, in X-Wing

Branching off from my post in this thread , let's consider an upgrade that allowed you to take both the pilot and crew version of a character. Something like Clone Tech (there's literally two of them) or Multitasking (they can turn from the main flight controls and handle another system that gives them the crew ability). I think it would have to be limited to a single ship with a crew slot -- we're already stretching thematic plausibility here, so having Luke on an X-Wing AND on the Falcon would be a little too much -- and I'd say it would have to reduce the PS by a good chunk to account for the divided attention span, at least 2 or even 3 points. The drawback -- aside from the extreme broken-ness of some of the combos (Dash/Dash being particularly evil) -- is that it tilts heavily to the Rebel and Scum side of things, since there are no dual pilot/crew combos possible for the Imperials.

So it's an insane idea and will never happen, but I'm not ready to get back to work this week and this is where my head is at.

I often thought named Crew should be allowed as crew on their named Pilot cards.

But would they stress themselves out from doing too many things at once?

Hmm, that would be an interesting angle, have the ship acquire a stress token at the end of the activation phase, on top of any other stress it might acquire during the phase.

One of the stores around here runs tournaments with a tweak of some kind. We had a "clone wars" local tournament where players could simply ignore the unique restriction. It was a heap of fun, but there were some silly combinations. My son was running double dash with dash, I had double vader in advanceds with a shuttle with double vader. Double Kanan with recspec on each was interesting (reducing attacks by 2 dice!) and there was a triple soontir list.

There were definitely some crazy combos but it was interesting how not broken most of the game was. With a few exceptions that were really crazy (multiple vaders on one ship) a lot of the time having both the pilot and the crew didn't exactly rock the world.

DASHY DASH INCOMING!

I think this could be pretty fun with the right penalty. I'd maybe make it an EPT - multitasking, you may equip a Crew upgrade card with the same name as this ship's pilot to an existing Crew slot on this ship. If you do, whilst the Crew card is in play, at the end of the activation phase receive one stress token if you performed any actions that round.

Costs you your EPT slot and has a fairly big downside.

(Added the 'Whilst in play' stipulation mostly for Boba crew)

Yeah, Dash/Dash is probably why this doesn't work, although Dash really really wants PTL, so the penalties (no EPT slot, extra stress if you do actions) would probably kill its utility for him.

Honestly Dashing Dash sounds great but you going to give up Kanan or Kyle for that? It's ... cute, but at the end of the day Dash doesn't really care that much about asteroids anyway. I think if you allowed it people would use it for a week and go back to the old builds.

Some others are more problematic. A decimator with 3x Vader crew on it? Hello Soontir BAM DEAD.

Perhaps tourneys could have a reward for crew/pilots that have the same name and ability, except that they have an extra vowel.
