I avoid the area and only ink it, then drybrush, it is far from flawless though.
Avoiding the are for me is critical to keep the insides as low as possible.

Busy weekend.
That is exactly what I do … well mostly. I paint the area flat black (along with the wings), then, after dry, (and if I want to) I will wash it in a color that represents cockpit glow. For the "wash" I literally take a brush freshly dipped in distilled water, barely touch it to the color I want, maybe get some excess off, then touch it to the cockpit. If it's too much, you can remove by giving it a quick puff of air, dabbing with a paper towel (usually removes all of it though, putting an empty brush against it to soak up color, or give the model a rapid spin between your fingers. The last technique WILL sling paint so if you have something you don't want paint on, don't do that. Then the base color and washing occur. The frame gets a combo edge brushing and dry brushing during the final detailing steps (post washing) when I do engines, cannons and stripes. Hope that helps.
I haven't tried Defenders yet, but they're next. Just got done with a Phantom squadron and a gozanti flotilla that I'll post soon. Here's a Moldy Crow I did for my bro:
These were fun. Better pics later.
Cloaking:
Cloaked:
Computer is giving me fits tonight but here are my takes on Phantoms. Uncloaked, cloaking and cloaked.
How does the Royal Guard escort the Emperor across hyperspace when he only takes a shuttle and not a capital ship? Royal Guard Gozanti cruisers of course. I affectionately call them the lobsters because of their shiny red shells hahaha.
Been busy lately, but finally, the Demolisher joins my green arrow fleet.
Life has been busy. Between work, soccer (football for you non-Yanks), church and working on the house I've been away from the paint table. But when I have a moment, I've been working on the oldest and newest ships of the Imperial Fleet.
One day these will get done. Almost there. Been busy with other things.
Finally finished her. The Indefatigable. The oldest continuously serving ship in the fleet. This old warhorse has been serving since the Clone Wars (just barely) and if you look close you might see where a recent commander had the old Republic red livery painted over. In the Squadron Commander's quarters, someone a long time ago, carved a heart with the inscription AS+PA 4-ever with what appears to be a laser torch. It's not regulation but the crew believes that changing her little scars will bring doom. She's seen more than her fair share of battles. Her scheduled retirement/scrapping after nearly being destroyed was postponed due to the recent Rebel crisis. Her bow was just replaced after ramming a Rebel frigate. The number 3 main engine also exploded during that engagement requiring it to be replaced. She was pulled out of the repair yard early, before paint could be applied to the bow, to escort a new experimental cruiser to the Corellian sector where there's been a major Rebel incursion.
Neat stuff, beautiful engines.

Photobucket wants money?!?!?!?
What service can I switch to? What do y'all use?
I'm moving mine over to Facebook now.
I might even create a separate facebook account specifically for it.
Good idea Dras! As usual, you da Man! Wow, photobucket will loose a lot of ad revenue with a big drop in visits.
I was surprised. They had a nice convenient "download all" button.
That will be followed with the extra-convenient "delete all" button.
I've been using imgur, it is acceptable.

I started using https://imgbb.com/ for now, not much storage, but i save for web to keep my images about 100kb, so it works fine.

Photobucket has screwed the entire net. I hope their service goes under completely. Hate f@@king greedy a$$holes.
I really can't wait to see what these look like! I use photobucket too, did you just get too many pictures? What happened?

No, not too many. They just gave me a notice that in order to do third party hosting, I had to give them money. I figured putting up with the neverending popup adds was enough but I guess not. I just haven't found another site and taken the time to upload yet.
I hope you find another service, I'd love to see all the pictures of your work D:

I've begun the process of uploading images to Imgur and replacing the old links. I'm starting at the beginning and working through the pages. I'll try to let y'all know when I've posted more.
Dengar is back up.
