The Next Armada Event on Vassal
I'll play whatever the event is. I do think wave 4 is out. What if we did a take the station tourney? King of the Hill. I'm sure arranging 4 schedules would be very difficult however. Heck, arranging two is hard enough. Three rounds, points for each place (4,3,2,1) second and third round matchups based off of total points so the 4 highest points play each other, etc. Would need a dozen players for 3 tables. A bridge too far?
A bridge too far?
oh and can we have time limits on the games please ? 6 hrs + for one game is a total piss take........ ![]()

Unless the players directly involved have an issue with their games going for a long time, time generally isn't an issue with Vassal. That's kinda half the point of the system itself.
Taking too long because reasons? Pause the game and reschedule for later. Life happens, Vassal is way easier to sort out than an IRL event! (Excepting 5am games... Grumble
)
I'd kind of like to do a little more of a league format, most significantly with changing lists from game to game. The events take so long, and the meta evolves so fast, that by the time the last round comes around we're all stuck playing out-of-date fleets with glaring weakness that you have to deal with for a month and a half.
This would allow us to:
Require/enable each player to mix up fleet archetypes from game to game
Incorporate Wave 4 if it drops part-way through
Advance fleet building strategies faster overall
I also enjoy the idea of challenges. We have a store around here that does these, and it's a lot of fun. They'll put out a list of weekly challenges, things like score 150 points in Superior Positions or kill a ship using only squadrons. It encourages unique builds and new tactics. Not sure how/if this could be incorporated, just throwing it out there because I personally really enjoy it.
Edit: and my Axe!

After doing a little thinking, definitely this^
Also I really like the idea of challenges!
I had this thought, Truce on Vassal
The Civil War was a disaster for both sides, The Battle of Endor crippled both sides, The Death Star blew up, Pellaeon never ordered a retreat, the continuing battle destroyed the cohesion of each side. What's left of most of the fleets are scattered, broken remnants who went home and are trying to defend their territory, in doing so, the Imperials and Rebels are working together on their home planets to prevent aggression from outside their sectors.
Rules:
No faction restrictions.
You may have 1 Commander. (I thought about 2, one from each but I don't see how that would not be too broken.)
Titles are restricted to their class. (No Salvation on an ISD!)
Officers are not restricted to their faction's ships.
Wave 3 revealed (all, I believe) are in play, as are any revealed Wave 4 cards. (Mandine, Veteran gunners, are unfortunately the only usable ones so far. The others (Gravity Well Stuff) might be usable with a ruling of the combat version costing 90, as we have the stats for it. If so, we'd probably want to make a guess for the Liberty as well to be fair.)

I think it's a cool idea But they're are ALOT of broken effects if you mix Sides (though mothma would make my raiders less glassy) so we would have to be careful.
Alternatively one week of the league we could institute this! That would be fun (I suggest we ban mauler+adar though lol)

Why anyone would run anything but a Corrupter-powered B-wing Rhymerball is beyond me...

because a corruptor powered Scurgg Rhymerball is faster!!
Now you're just getting rediculous ^^^. Sheesh :-/
As a twist we might do 450 points or something?
Wave 3 Welcome Wagon sounds great.
BTW regarding point sizes, since a good amount of players only like to play regulation sized games, if you ever want to do something larger you might as well accept it will exclude some people and commit to it by going a nice chunky 5-600
Good point Matt!
So a regular, 400 pt Wave 3 tourney, with 4-5 rounds Swiss and a cut.
And then maybe a smaller tourney-thing running 600 pt fleets?
I approve of both!

And then maybe we just toss in a nice Yavaris, and suddenly its peanut butter murder time!

throw in adar talon, and maybe spice it up with a little Mauler mithil and we have the MOST POWERFUL SQUADRON EVER SEEN!!! (oh and dont forget BCC+the rebel lady that rerolls blue dice)
Oh gods. . . You are giving Dodonna access to Demolisher! Are you sure this is wise?

Bah, not as important. One usually gets a crit with a MC30. Unless you are playing with Vassal and it hates you. . .
I am more worried about Rhymerball B-Wings and bomber command center GR75's

I dunno dude I've lost games because even post OE I could't get a crit from an MC30. High probabilty of success still has a chance of failure.

Were you being greedy?
Once wave four comes out see if you can sneak in Crix Madine and a bunch of VSDs. Then accompany them with Rhymer-buffed B-Wings. It'll be a riot.

God's, 90 degree turns on VSD's. . .

I know, right?!? As a primarily Imperial player I'm so extremely jealous of Crix it's crazy. The things he could do with VSDs, it would be insane!

Tarkin and Madine. . .
In previous X-Wing tournaments, players have made TWO lists that lasted for the duration of the swiss rounds. At the start of each match, the player and their opponent would simultaneously declare which list they would play for that game (on the count of "three" they'd flip a dial that represented their choice - we could do something similar in Armada, eg flipping objective cards).
This allows players to bring lists with different strengths, vulnerabilities, and play-styles, and you've got an answer for almost every match-up. Going againt the Clonisher? You've got a list ready-built to fight it. Facing an Ackbar gun-line? Well, here's my Clonisher list! ![]()
Rather than potentially changing lists every round (which makes oversight difficult), we could have three or four rounds (probably four) with these two lists. Should new wave cards drop between rounds, we could make an allowance to adjust lists after round 2/for the top cut.
At the top cut, each player would choose ONE of their lists for the remainder of the tournament.
How does this sound?
