Custom Card League: VOTE on custom ships now!

By Babaganoosh, in X-Wing

Not sure what it will mean to the CCL yet, but it looks like three of the new wave 9 ships overlap with current CCL ship entries, and the Mandalorian fighter is one of the leading ships in the vote, while the two ARC entries are both competitive.

I had not planned for a wave 9 leak during the development process, so I have no contingency plan for this. I'm thinking through what this means, if anything, for the CCL, but please sound off with any input in the meantime.

I believe that with all due respect, but all the new ships cannot be in the winning list.

They could and should be counted among winners, but when it comes to the top spots for the next phase of the competition they should leave their place for the next most popular model on the list.

It simply makes no sense for those ships to compete in the next step of the league.

Yea, the Custom card league is meant to add player based content we couldn't get elsewhere. So while the upgrade cards made for the ARC and Fang could be valid, I see no point in investing time into just a player stat version of a ship.

I agree... the fans of those ships should be happy enough as it is. I know I wouldn't be excited about playing with a custom version of a ship all the while knowing it has an official version coming. =

On one hand, I agree that the whole point is to add new ships, but I feel like an ass DQ-ing ships already submitted - especially ones with a good chance of being selected. At the moment I am leaning towards it, though. Having the official ships out there is going to be pretty weird for custom ships of the same type.

How about giving any author of a winning ship that was DQ'd a swing vote on any tied ships moving forward?

Just have to face it, as a custom ship, it's DOA. The whole attraction of this is to have an opportunity to play with cards/ships you wouldn't have otherwise. There's got to be a way to still reward the people who made the ship... if it wins.

Well, I'm certainly a lot less enthused by the idea of working on an ARC-170 now that I've seen the Wave 9 Reveal. Can I voluntarily withdraw that submission from the running?

Edit: All this talk about people's ships "winning" and that it is somehow a reward feels very negative to me. That's not what we're doing here. We're not competing, this should be an awesome, fun, collaborative effort. Who cares who submitted the original idea? We're going to be tweaking and changing the final submissions and working together to make the coolest, most interesting set of custom cards we possibly can.

Ya, no one is going to want to fly fan makes when we have official makes of the same ships. Pretty sure everyone will be understanding.

Alternatively, they could rename the ships and use the same statlines, just put a different ship name on it. Not sure if that will work great though.

After some consideration, I've decided that the best course is to shelve the ARC-170, TIE/SF, and Mandalorian fighter entries, since official ships for those entries have been revealed. Apologies to the creators of those entries; I'll be sure to include disclaimers to this effect in hypothetical future iterations of the CCL.

I will leave the options to vote for those ships open, but they will not be considered for the top four positions that will ultimately be implemented in the vassal extension for the Custom Card League.

voted!

Also, it might be worth noting that you CAN go back and edit your votes. So if anyone had voted for one of the ships that was revealed for wave 9 and downvoted some other possibly interesting ship for the same faction or something becaues they wanted to see the arc170/fang/tiesf win, you can always go vote up something else instead. If you instead voted up everything you liekd and voted down anything you didn't like, then it's no big deal also :P

Every vote matters; 4th place is a virtual tie right now.

Don't forget to change your votes from the wave 9 ships to my Preybird Starfighter. It will be awesome to first Missiles out of a rear auxiliary arc.

A reminder- voting closes at midnight EST on Sunday. Vote before then!

Woulda been even more awesome if they hadn't released the ghost first that could alreadydo the same thing with torpedoes :P

That's true, but the Preybird would be the first Starfighter(not freighter) to have a rear arc missile.

About that. You're closing the voting on the generic ships, and closing the submissions for upgrades at the same time is bad timing. I'd simply like to know what ships win, so I know what upgrades to bother uploading.

I thought the upgrade submissions were supposed to be related to winning ships.

Is there any point in submitting upgrades before June 5 if the voting on ships isn't done?

If you release the vote results with some time before the upgrade deadline,

then I can decide whether to bother with upgrades that aren't related to ships.

Otherwise I'm going to dump a ridiculous number of upgrades on a guess.

I'm also curious what you are going to do about ties in the voting.

It's a good point, I probably should have a period between the end of ship voting and submission deadline for upgrades and pilots. All unique pilots that were put up alongside the custom ships are automatically going to be considered entries.

I'll extend the deadline for upgrade and pilot submissions to Wednesday to give people time to react to the voting.

As of now, I can say with good certainty that we will see the assault gunboat, sorosuub luxury yacht, and V-wing (the first entry).

The fourth ship isnt clear yet.

Maybe you could update the timetable image with better timed deadlines, take a pause and then reflect it in the timetable.

I'll probably do this sometime on Monday, if ever; the changes are fairly minor

I should have asked this before, but if you are only taking 4 ships from the generics, then are you going to add another 4 ships from the unique pilots, or are you pitting the generics against the unique submissions?

So, it's closed?

So, it's closed?

Waiting for results for the semi-final 4,

(still wondering if it's going to be 8 with uniques)

then some time to upload upgrades that are relevant.

This should say edited at 2:25 AM

It's just 4 ships. For the pilot voting is just voting on uniques for the 4 custom ships that were voted in (and possibly uniques for existing ships as well? Not sure how that part works). No more new custom ships though.

I hope there is a new CCL soon.
