Mike and Omar's X-Wing Bat Reps

By Theibault, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Hello! New to the forums here. My buddy Mike and I have been playing mini, board, and card games for a long time. We just started playing X-Wing and we are hooked. We are total noobs with 5 games under our belts. We decided to video our sessions so we can go back and watch and learn. We are casual players currently just playing with our new toys. We are aware off the current meta, but our goal is to play casual and have fun for the time being. Please feel free to comment and give us feedback on what we got wrong, what we did right, and what we can do to improve. Hope you watch and please feel free to subscribe to the channel to be notified as new videos go up. I'll use this thread as a repository as well. Happy gaming all!

So Mike and I played our 6th game. This one is LONG lol. We both played with new lists and a bunch of new cards. Once again, we are total noobs so it was again a learning experience with all the new weapons and upgrades. Overall we did a good job but still so many things we probably got wrong. This game was a blast. It turned out in the end very different from how I thought it would. We really like surprises! Please feel free if you watch to call out what we got wrong and any tactics that would have helped. It was another fantastically fun session for us. I'm so glad we are making these as learning sessions as it's really helpful to be able to go back and watch the match again. Hopefully as we get better, we'll get to a point were our knowledge of the rules means I can edit these videos to a reasonable time. Thanks for watching and please like, share, comment, and subscribe!

Game number 7 in our Wed gaming series is in the books. We both tried new squads so we could get accustomed to our different ships. This was a good game that had a couple really swing moments for both of us. Did I continue my win streak? Did Mike finally win one on video? Watch and enjoy along with us as we learn and play this great game. As always, we are noobs, so please comment on what we got wrong and any tips. Thanks and please like, share, comment, and subscribe if you are enjoying this. We should have at least a video a week coming out.

I couldn't get a video with Mike filmed this Wed, so I headed over to my LFGS for X-Wing night. This was the first time playing someone other than Mike. I met Alex there who turned out to be a great guy. This was also my first time flying against a good meta list. Alex flew Palp, Soontir, and Inquisitor against my 2 Aggressors running IG-88 B and C. Boneheaded move to start with, but Alex was a good sport and let me start over. I learned a lot from just this one session. Thanks to Alex for being a good sport and great guy. Hope to fly against him again soon. As always, if you enjoy this, please like, share, and subscribe. Apologies on the audio, my GoPro was not liking the wood table it was on.

So today I have something new. This is the first video in the Theibault Invitational Series. Basically, this is where I invite you to play at my house, and you are not Mike on Weds. I was lucky enough to have my friend Alex come out for a couple games. We had a fantastic time and hope you enjoy watching. The second video from this session will be posted later.

And the second match with Alex yesterday.

Another Wed, another session with Mike. We played two games today. Mike used the same list for both games, I used 2 different lists. We had a great time and Mike did a little "creative flying" towards the end of the second session which I'll link as soon as YT is done with it.

And the 2nd game from yesterday.

So, having played a little over a dozen games, my friend Alex asked me to go to my first tournament with him. We drove up to Ft. Collins CO (we live in Colo. Spgs.) for a 16 person tournament at The Haunted Game Cafe. The two TOs got everything off on time and the ran it very well. Everyone got to play 4 rounds. With small breaks, the dust settled in 6 hours straight. Being my first tournament, I didn't know what to expect. What I found was a group of really nice people and some great X-Wing gameplay. I flew Paul Heavers 2015 Poe Rush list ( Poe, YYZ lol).

Match 1:

I was paired up with Ricky who was flying an Imp. Firespray, TIE Punisher, and TIE Interceptor. He set his FS directly across the table from my YYZs and Poe. I made a beeline for it, and by the 3rd round, it was off the table and his other two ships just coming into the fray. Three more rounds and I finished off his other two ship. Ricky made some points though as with his last shot (simultaneous fire rule) he took one of my Ys down. Super fun match.

Match 2:

I'm paired with one of the TOs son, Sean. He's flying a Ghost/Dash build. This was my favorite match of the day. I lose my Z first, but only after having made good progress on his Ghost. Meanwhile, Poe and Dash are flying around like mad men trying to finish each other off. I lose a Y and get his Dash off the board. Just the Ghost and my Poe and Y. I make a huge error and put Poe in a spot with no shot on the Ghost and Poe is history. Just the Y trying to stay out of range one of his Ghost. It comes down to a single move. I have 2 hull, the Ghost has 2 hull. We swing around and I make the foolish mistake of not getting out of range one (a little game fatigue is already setting in) and before I have a chance with the Ys TLT, Sean gets me with the AT AC combo that I can't stop. This match was awesome. I learned a ton and barring one mistake at the end, it could have gone my way.

Match 3:

I'm paired with my buddy Alex. We ar both 1-1 at this point. He's flying his Dengaroo. I have yet to beat him in casula play with that list so I knew I had a tough road ahead. He also states that should I beat him, I have to walk home lol (he was kidding). I set up based on how he's played me in the past, but he surprises me by going the opposite direction (clockwise) with his ships. I make the mistake of getting Poe too far from helping support the YYZs as they chip away at Dengar. Slowly but surely he picks of one ship at a time. I'm left with one Z and the hope of salvaging some points in this lose as each of his ships was one hit away from 50%. I'm going to blame the dice gods on this one as my poor little Y just couldn't get it done before he went down in flames. Another great match.

Match 4:

Final match and I'm paired with Rich who's running a Fat Chewiw and two B's. I rush Chewiw and get him down to just 3 hull. I lose a Z and Rich a B. The second B manages to pick off Poe, so we are left with a Y with TLT and title, and Rich's B and Chewie. An epic chase starts and the Y is just SLOWLY trying to get around and pick off the Freighter and B. He has only lost one shield while Chewie was down to 2 hull and 1 hull on the B. I'm feeling like I can get this done. We go in slow circles for a few round and time is ticking down. Finally, we are starting a round where action will happen. During the movement phase, Rich realises he's used the wrong dials. I decide I'll be a good sport and let him redo his (both his ships were very close to the board edges) as it's been a long fun day, and everyone is having X-Wing fatigue. Somehow, on his mulligan, he does wrong dials again! We've both had a great day, so we laugh about it, his ships end up off the board and I finish 2-2 with a decent MOV.

For those that play casual, I can't recommend going to a tournament enough. I met a lot of wonderful people and played some great X-Wing. It has made me really excited to go to more. I can't stress this enough, if you play with a group of the usual people, get out to your LGS and play others as well as try to get out play a tournament. This game has been so wonderful and this new dimension of competitive play just adds to it. I love this wonderful game!

In the end, I came in 8th and I was overjoyed about this. I had no expectations of how I would do going into it, I just new that I'd hopefully learn and have fun. Mission accomplished and then some. With that "Top 8" finish, I also walked away with my first bit of swag. Thanks to Lee and Asa for putting on this tournament. Thanks to all those I met and played for a great day of X-Wing.

So, time for another Wed Bat Rep. Mike and I played 2 games again. I'll kick it off with the first video.

Ok, so before I post my second Wed game with Mike, I have a quick interlude. I also played a few games at my FLGS on Wed night. I recorded this one with my friend Alex. I'll have the second Mike and I video uploaded tonight or tomorrow.

And game 2 from yesterday with Mike.

After a week off, Mike and I are back! Once again, we played 2 matches this Wed. Here is the first.

And match 2 from 7-13. Triple Deee-Lite!

We are back! Life is crazy right now, so we aren't getting in games every week, but we play when we can. Hope you enjoy and game 2 will be up later.

And finally (sorry for the delay, got battered by hail) game 2 from Wed. 7-27.

Another Wed gone by and another couple games with Mike. This is game 1. As usual, game 2 will be uploaded later. Hope you enjoy!

Game 2. It's a short one. ;)
