Noob Marksmanship Question

By bgrelle, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Did a search and didn't see an answer to my question so I am positing in now. When using marksmanship, do I have to declare a target ship at the time of declaring that my action is marksmanship or can that be done during the attack stage?

Thanks

Marksmanship is an action, so you declare it when you perform the action. You don't have to declare a target at that time (usually, you're not even in the Combat phase when you perform the action).

Ok, that's what I thought. First time I declared marksmanship as my action the guy I was playing said ok so marksmanship on who and I just didn't argue. Next time I will.

Just ask him next time "Focus action eh? Focus on Who?".... that'll screw him over ;)

Who and for what? That should DEFINITELY confuse him and should illustrate how if something doesn't need a target there is no need to declare one.

Ahh yes! Ask him if he is Focusing for Evade, or Focusing for attack! ROFL!

Thanks for the ideas on responses for next time! This was my first game against someone who has been playing longer then me. My usual opponent is a buddy that is playing because I got him into it at the same time I started playing so we are learning the rules at the same time.

You'll get there... it's amazing how much the repetition of playing makes you learn off-by-heart how every (as many as there are) upgrade card and rule works!

If he doesn't like some of the other responses, go to the card and ask him where it says to nominate a target ship in the text.

Another example of just because someone has been playing for a while, doesn't mean that they've been playing correctly all that time.

Do this first. Take the assertive solution rather than the passive-aggressive, be an actual adult about it.

Failing that, fall back on sarcasm. ;)

Naturally, yes.
