Super Zuckuss

By Budgernaut, in X-Wing Squad Lists

This is my favorite Zuckuss build (okay, so it's the first and only Zuckuss build I've had an opportunity to fly so far).

Zuckuss (28)

-Expose (4)

-Advanced Sensors (3)

-Experimental Interface (3)

-K4 Security Droid (3)

I decided to offset the penalty of Zuckuss' ability with some special friends

Serissu (20)

-Adaptability (0)

-"Heavy Scyk" Interceptor (2)

-Tractor Beam (1)

Latts Razzi (33)

-Weapons Engineer

In my most recent game, there were two highlights. One was when Zuckuss got to shoot Keyan Farlander with 4 dice, but because of a Tractor Beam token and Latts' Razzi spending her target lock, Keyan got zero defense dice. It's so lovely when a plan comes together! The second best part was when an exposed Zuckuss faced off against Poe Dameron at range 2. Poe had regenerated all shields up to maximum. Zuckuss just didn't care. Hit-hit-crit-crit-crit. Poe died to a Minor Explosion and a Direct Hit! Zuckuss took out a full-health Poe Dameron in one shot!

This is totally a gimmicky squad, but I enjoyed it. I think, though, that Advanced Sensors is unnecessary. It's nice but there were times Zuckuss was stressed from Debris and just couldn't use it. If I run this squad again, I'm dropping Advanced Sensors and putting K4 Security Droid on Latts Razzi. That should allow her to get TL + Focus more often which means that if she has to spend a TL earlier in the round to assist Serissu or Zuckuss, she still has some offensive dice modification.

I don't want to drop Weapons Engineer from Latts because I think it's an important way to cover my intentions. If Latts target locks an enemy ships, that can telegraph where Zuckuss is heading. By having her TL two ships, the opponent isn't sure which one will be Zuckuss' target. It also makes it easier to switch targets during a round.

Serissu is really in hear for the Tractor Beam. She's a cheap Tractor Beam carrier at a high enough PS for the other ships to take advantage of the tractor beam token. Unfortunately, I think I forgot to use her ability since I wasn't thinking of that as a reason for including her in the list. After all, she can't help Zuckuss reroll any green dice when he uses Expose because he has no green dice to roll!

I'm always scared of loading Zuckuss with too many points. Two rounds of concentrated fire and he's done.

I've been running him with Attanni Mindlink, AdvSen, Title, Tractor Beam, and sometimes 4LOM/Intel agent to good effect.

Only 34 points, gets TL/Focus every turn if he's not in danger, otherwise I just spam that Evade action (the Mist Hunter's best trait IMO).

Absolutely. Keeping him cheap is the more sound philosophy. I would never take this Zuckuss to a tournament, but it's dang fun to throw so many dice at targets with little agility.

Well sure, when you cheat and throw even more extra dice! :P

No cheating there, Expose + Zuckuss ability will give you 5 at range 2. Though it does feel a bit like cheating when your throwing 5 reds on a primary attack at range 2.

You're right, I forgot Expose was involved! That said, if Poe blanks against just hit-hit-crit-crit, he still explodes after the extra Direct Hit (barring Integrated Astromech).

I know this is an incredibly old post but I wanted to know what you guys thought of this list:

G-1A Starfighter: •Zuckuss (35)
•Mist Hunter (0)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Outlaw Tech (2)
Advanced Sensors (3)
Tractor Beam (1)

YV-666: •Latts Razzi (45)
Engine Upgrade (4)
K4 Security Droid (3)
Weapons Engineer (3)
Outlaw Tech (2)

Quadjumper: •Unkar Plutt (19)
Spacetug Tractor Array (2)

Total: 99/100

I had much fun with Zucc like this:
36 Zuckuss w/

  • Attanni;
  • Dengar;
  • Adv Sensors;
  • Title;

along Cobra and Fenn. It has some real punch. You keep him away and usually get focus for the rest, then u almost always have focus + rr for shooting.

Been thinking about Intensity on Zuckuss. Repositioning him would finally be a good choice.

Thoughts?

My favorite version of Zuckuss is Action Zuckuss (37 points):

Zuckuss

Push the Limit

Advanced Sensors

Outlaw Tech

Title/Tractor Beam

If you're careful, you can get double-actions quite a bit of the time. Outlaw Tech protects you a little with a focus on k-turns. Not super competitive, but I love anything I can Advanced Sensor/PTL/green manuever.

You probably need to pair with something more resilient/slippery to really have this work. Attani could be a fit too, as Zuckuss is at least handing out a focus when he stresses everyone.
