R5 Astromech: Almost useless?

By Leveton, in Imperial Assault Campaign

The R5 Astromech companion card includes the ability Forage .

(Action) Forage: Use while adjacent to a crate to draw 1 Supply card. Limit once per crate.

But in the rules for companions (The Bespin Gambit Rulebook, page 4), the fourth bullet point says

A companion cannot interact cannot interact and cannot use abilities on Class, Item, or Supply cards.

So if they can't use Supply cards, what is the point of drawing them? You can't normally hand Supply cards to another figure. I would love the R5 if it could use Supply cards. Applying an Adrenal Stim or Bacta Infusion to a hero would be useful, and I love the mental image of an astromech chucking grenades. But as the rules are written, it can't do that.

So what are we supposed to make of this? Does the hero that brings the R5 actually get any Supply cards it draws? Or is it 250 credits that is mostly useless?

How many crates get left behind due to focusing on the objective?

The hero carrying the droid runs past a crate and then goes and attacks/interacts with whatever. Before the activation ends, the droid moves two spots, draws a supply card, then moves the remaining spots to land where the hero is. The hero "now has" that supply card. Of course you could have done that first too, but Id rather not give the Imperial a chance to interrupt and nab the droid by destroying it. Its invincible as long as its sharing that square.

The supply item goes to the hero who has the R5 companion item.

The supply item goes to the hero who has the R5 companion item.

I think this is the intention but does it say this anywhere in the rules?

It doesn't say you get the crate, just a card. No 50 credits for you.

Yeah, looking through the bespin rulebook now, it looks like they forgot to explain how supply cards drawn by companions can be used. A pretty big oversight.

I think until we get an errata, there are 2 options for house rules. 1. Cross out "supply cards" in the 4th bullet of the companion rules or 2. Rule that any supply cards drawn by a companion are usable by their associated group/hero.

Looking at the entry for supply cards in the RRG, I would probably go with option 2.

I sent a question to FFG about this.

I have an answer to this. The R5 Astromech is considered to be an item used by the hero it's associated with, so when the R5 Astromech draws a supply card, the card is placed on the hero's play area and can subsequently be used by that hero.

That seems like a sensible answer, but where does it say that in the rules?

(I would have personally worded Forage differently.)

Supply cards aren't held by figures; they're held by Heroes.

Wrong universe, Star WARS doesn't have teleporters, that is Star TREK. I think I'd rather just not use this than have such a stupid rule in the game. Bespin is turning out to be quite the disappointment of rushed garbage rules.

Um, did R2-D2 need a teleporter to get Luke's lightsaber to him from 100 yards away?

I ignore that nonsense. I know it is house rules. The idea that supply cards can't be traded is silly prima facie. As the poster above said. R2 launched Luke's lightsaber to him. As long as characters are adjacent, I'll allow trading of supply cards without it even being an action. I consider it part of movement.

First off, R2 is a ridiculous pack of deus ex machina that can fly, fix anything, hack anything etc. Second, until J.J. ****** everything up because he had no idea what he was doing, he was the star of the series and the main hero. Third, are you going to HOUSERULE you can't get it around corners etc. because otherwise your example is garbage.

Why u mad bro? Also why you hate Star Wars so much?

It's a game, not a theoretical physics simulator, sometimes immersion has to bend for the sake of gameplay. That is true of every game that is not also a theoretical physics simulator.

Why u mad bro? Also why you hate rules making sense so much? See, I can post juvenile garbage just like you! Thread crapping for the win dude! Good job man! Yeahz!

It's a game that isn't even consistent with itself. That is poor design. Being able to teleport an item anywhere on the board is stupid and doesn't fit the rules. I'm sorry you're not capable of recognizing something so blatantly and obviously bad. There are a lot of sensible ways this card could have been made, this is a very bad one.

I sent a question to FFG about this.

FFG is on a 30 day rules questions lock down after release of a new product. So questions about Bespin won't be answered until late June or early July.

Pasi already gave an answer that will probably just be re-iterated by Paul once the lockdown is over.

Aren't you the hero of the internet! Why not report the person doing the taunting who I just responded to with his own language? Oh yeah, because that would make too much sense.

Two wrongs do not make right.

Hey buddy, you're the one who started cursing first and called my post garbage, maybe calm down and check the civility of your own posts?

You example was garbage, I pointed out why. Good job on intentionally misunderstanding, getting mad and then reflecting that on me and calling me mad starting off the whole insulting crap.

You started with derailing the thread and you were the first to swear and attack other users. It's right there in the quote ...
