I worry about myself sometimes...

By OggDude, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So, would this be considered a "collection" or an "obsession"?

Books.jpg

I'm getting read to go to KublaCon and was trying to decide which books to take, so I laid them all out. And it hit me that this is a WHOLE lot of books I spent money on :)

Neither and both. Welcome to the Happy House (a reference to Siuoxsie and the Banshees)

Pfff! I see no GM Kits* or beginner's boxes there! Also, no pages upon pages of spreadsheets analysing every tiny facet of the release schedule* and dozens of self-made resources compiling all equipment and character options into easy-to-read charts*, nor do I see home-made ship* and weapon cards*.

You, sir, are not obsessed!

* I have done this.

Isn't this just a normal collection of sourcebooks? Parts of my living room like like a the LGS, simply because more or less complete systems are waiting to be played in the shelves. Shadowrun, Realms of Arkania, Agone, etc there is not enough FFGSWRPG releases to rival all those different edition from shadowrun or my incomplete RoA / Black Eye 3rd edition collection. And I doubt that FFG will ever release enough to surpass those :D

So collection it is.

I have everything except the cards!

You're quite normal here, Oggy, never fear!

I can match that except for Chronicles of the gatekeeper. I used to have an embarrassingly large collection of D&D rulebooks (2nd ed. 3rd ed. 4th ed. and d20) until I managed to get it all sold off.

I do still have a nice big collection of D&D and Star wars minis.

Well, he did build the character generator, so he's got them charts somewhere, somehow. Personally, I think Oggdude should be on FFG's "promotional freebies" list.

In any case, yeah, that's a lot of books, and a lot of dough spent on them. But remember that RPGs are a comparatively cheap hobby. Y'ever looked into model trains? Yeesh! Trying to play Magic: the Gathering competitively can set you back a lot. Heck, even a simple dinner and a movie will run more than pizza and a new sourcebook, and you can use each book until it falls apart.

Oh, you're THAT OggDude (as if there's more then one)? Okay, you might be obsessed. I think I might edge you out a little, but that's okay! I could use some company in the "unhealthily obsessive fan" camp.

Pretty sure FFG is rootin for ya.

Which starts to happen on my AoR book after 3 months or so :P

It is the weak binding combined with heavy use. I am all for using my consumer rights, but in this case it is simply a case of heavy use. Which is no base to make a call on that. My broken TIE-Fighter on the other hand was a clear case of FFG screwing up and get replaced by my awesome FLGS in 10s flat.

But yeah, I don't know what's up with such weak bindings for RPG core rule books. Catalyst is another classic publisher who sells you books which will soon start to fall apart. For the career books it seems like the binding is sufficient, but the core books which are heavy and constantly in use to look up stuff they are not build to last, which was ironically another good reason to buy all 3 corebooks as this will reduce strain as they have all three mostly the same rules to look up.

On the bright side, when the binding finally fails and all the pages fall out, it'll be dead simple to scan them all.

Glad to see I'm not the only one with FFG Star Wars Fever. I actually had to rearrange my office so I could have shelves to support my gaming habit, which is paltry compared to many of you fine folks. Now, if I hadn't shed all those gaming books in a giant downsizing effort 20 and then again 10 years ago, I'd have a collection to speak about.

Shall I mention my 5x5 storage unit stacked floor to ceiling with comic book longboxes?

I'm going to point my wife to this thread the next time she asks "do you really need another [ gaming book | bass guitar | power tool ]?" This collection here takes the cake!

Omg, that's like "do you need another bottle of whisky?" or "do you need another gun?"....feh! Of course, both at once ideally.

On the subject of buying all three cores to reduce strain on the bindings - hasn't quite worked for me as my EotE core has been on the verge of falling apart for about a year now. It looks like it's being kept together by hope! I like to think that the books being worn demonstrates that they're well loved. :D

Collection, surely. Same as mine, except you probably don’t have the hardcopy edition of “Spark of Rebellion”. ;)

If you want to go for Obsession, then you would have to print out the source code for every version of your generator that you’ve ever delivered. And your complete list of all known customers, contributors, sponsors, etc….

Wish I could be there with you. ;(

I think that's part of collecting any game system with lots of class/splat books.

The buddy of my old GM had, what appeared to be, everything from World of Darkness. (the vampires, the werewolves, the mages, the...etc.) It came close to looking like the RPG section of an actual gamestore.

You sir, are a hero and an inspiration to us all.

What, me worry? I have everything except the F&D adventure and the talent cards. And I see no reason to worry whatsoever. :D

Two of us in my group are having trouble specifically with AoR as well. My GM's copy is falling apart after moderate use and the binding is starting to give on mine as well, even though it's honestly barely been opened a dozen times.

Our EoE and F&D books are all doing fine, however, and I've used both of those way more than I have AoR.

I've set myself to buy all the books released by FFG in their Star Wars RPG system, solely because of their quality and artsmanship.

The fact that I get to play an RPG in Star Wars is just a bonus.

I'd buy them even if I didn't play.

(So far I have everything released, including GM screens and Beginner Boxes. One of the NPC card blisters still eludes me though, and I won't bother with the other blister packs)

I think you have a major problem Oggy, and need to quit all this cold turkey, right now. I'm forming an intervention to help you, and will confiscate your books. This is for your own good. You will thank me later after you are free from this horrible addiction. It is also a fact that FFG laces the pages with nicotine, to make the books more addictive. it's true, you just read it on the Internet, so it has to be.

So, you might be a Star Wars Fanatic, if you have recently posted pictures of your loot from going to Disneyland, and things like the following were included:

Lots of new hats, a tie, and a bag:
