Some of my painted Heroes

By Rogs, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Think its very difficult to get good pictures ot the minis, someone have good tips on how to take good photos of the figures (excuse my bad English, its not my native language).

mmhh...Well done. Pretty good into the details.

Nice job!!

Regarding photography: When taking pics of my minis, I got also remembered that it is an artform by itself. Its not simple. There is a huge discussion out there how to approach miniature photography, various techniques, accessoirs etc. I am not an expert. I kept it simple and was reasonably happy with the results, after multiple takes:

  1. 2 light sources (regular table lamp), covered with parchment paper.
  2. Place them about 50-100 cm from the mini, from opposite sides.
  3. Place the mini on some (black) paper or whatsoever to have a neutral background
  4. Camara on "macro" mode.
  5. Zoom a little bit in, not too much, focus
  6. Trial and error -> you might need to try different angles, light positions, distance of camera to model. Note: The reflection of light from the mini shouldnt be visible on the photo, thats usually when lamps are too near.

Btw the pics you took are by no means bad - perhaps just too much light there. I guess the parchment paper could already solve this.

Hope that could help a little.

Thanks for the tips, the light on the minis side is from the sun from a window, lightsource from booth sides sounds like a good thing.

Some of the bad guys.

Serena! I don't remember to see any painted mini. Heroes from trollfens would be cool too

Here is Serena Leiutenant/agent and Augur grisom from Trollfens, Roganna the Shade is on the first picture i posted in this post. the green girl with the net and knife shes also from Trollfens.

I know iam really bad painting eyes, so i mostly dont do it, but sometimes i do and the result is always very bad. (Serena is not completely done yet i have to do something about the eyes and im not done with the lighter parts on the sword).

Just post all of them :D

Need sources for inspiration

I second posting all of them. However, if you're only taking requests, I want to see how you painted the wraiths.

Okej, heres the rest of them.

Yeah, eyes are problematic, lol. Anyway, excellent job. Augur is totally awesome :)

Awesome minis, congratulations! If u keep painting more, keep posting them too!

The trick I remember for eyes was to paint a white line for each eye (as opposed to covering the eye area) & then paint a black dot in the centre (depending on focus) of the white line, preferably not leaving any white showing above or below the dot (unless you are going for a staring/shocked expression).

However, this was for minis just a touch larger than these, where you could actually see the eyeball! I look at some of theses minis with my old eyes & struggle to see the detail, let alone paint them!

Thanks for thé tip on eyepainting. I use several readingglasses in different strength, They work as a magnifier.
