The Cartoon to me says, if you're dumb enough to put it in your mouth....

***** VORPS...
Oh, so flanderizations of the actual creators of the strip. How...original.
Well, rather, since they've been at it since late 20th century.
You've never heard of PA?
Heard of the PAX conventions?

Sorry, not a big fan of web comics.

That is... I mean... they are quite large.
Ah well.
It's still weird for an X-Wing player to not know what PAX is. Given that they are huge video/tabletop gaming conventions.
Comic shmomic......watching these guys play D&D is where it's at.
I think it is more of a joke if you had been reading for a while. As the joke isn't exactly about X-wing, but the two characters.
Yeah, it is a bit 'meta', I suppose.
tl;dr background - Gabe (black haired dude) is the artist of the comic strip, and does the art. He likes...art. And artistic stuff. And finds words boring and takes-too-long-to-read and skips past dialog in video games to get to more art. Tycho (brown haired dude) is the writer of the comic strip, and does all the writing. He loves classical literature, because it has no meaningless art to distract anyone from the SO IMPORTANT WORDS. He likes words. And thinks artists are stupid and waste time doing things that aren't making more words .
Ergo...the comic strip.
Yeah, similar themes have come up in the past, based around Warmachine/Hordes iirc.
Ban comics!

Guess I'm just weird.
I can't believe how many people here have no idea what Penny Arcade is, or how they're basically the godfathers of game critic comics.
Web comics aren't as prolific as people think. They have devout followers, but the vast majority of people either don't read them, or are entirely unaware of them. Outside the US, PAX isn't even that well known unless you're deep into gaming culture. Heck, the only reason I know about it is because I have a friend who regularly volunteers at PAX East. The Penny Arcade world is a smaller one than followers realise, methinks.
On the point of X-wing comics though, I've see a bunch of the Direman comics that often seem to be right on point. The "mistakes were made" one resonates with a lot of people I know, especially.

Outside the US? I can believe that. In the US, it's like the 2nd biggest video game convention after E3. And unlike E3, it has a large non-video game gaming contingent.
I really hope they don't quit the game due to metagaming or getting crushed by meta teams like Jm5ks. There was one convention for WOW TCG where you had to play them to get a signed copy - props to the PA team because they brought kitchen table decks and got absolutely torn to shreds by fans bringing Tier 1 competitive decks.

E3 has live coverage on the internets and the TV. Does PAX have coverage? I mean besides some nerds with iPhones. Sorry, I do live under a rock.
I like Tycho's writup for the comic:
I have had tons of Star Wars ships for awhile, but nobody to play with really; they sit beautifully on the shelf, LIKE MY DREAMS. Is that too much? Is it the capitalization, or the twee sentiment? In any case, X-Wing is a neat game with robust genes - so robust, in fact, that its systemic brood is multitudinous. Star Trek: Attack Wing, for example, is the same bones, but virtuously and uniquely executed. Dungeons And Dragons: Attack Wing I haven’t played, but incorporates ground combat; it might be unfair and superficial to include Plaid Hat’s Tail Feathers in this list, more of a cousin by marriage maybe, but it’s at least adjacent to the greater constellation. Oh! And Sails of Glory. I, uh… I like skirmishy wargames. Primarily because they’re more likely to actually get played, wherever my deeper affections may lie.
In any case.
My suspicion, given the heap of sci-fi plastic he has piled on his Bespin playmat, is that this probably won’t be the only strip we do on it. There’s lots to say. Gabriel allowed me to have what I wanted most in this strip, even though the entire production is an attempt to shame him, by having Tycho slobber on a card. It was a moist indulgence that is deeply appreciated.

I'm not sure to be honest. I listen to several video game podcasts every week. So my interaction with both events consists of those podcasters going "We played this at E3 this week." or "We played this at this at PAX this week."
But all the big announcements get made at E3. Because that's the big trade show. PAX is more of a fan event. But, there are also 4 different PAXs every year(Seattle, Boston, Texas, Australia) and only one E3.

Damit ole man... you should be on titters, squakers, and readdits... yarbles KEEP UP!
(I NEVER HEARD OF THE DAM-THING EITHER...)
This one actually sums up rather well how I feel about the novel Aftermath
Also, not their only
Aftermath related comic
.
So, if anyone is actually curious about the process behind the writing of this particular comic, occasionally they post those sessions in the form of podcasts, and this X-Wing comic just happened to be one.
Not exactly X-Wing, but I certainly approve of this one (nsfw language).
Edited by DarthEnderXI think the demographic of people who play xwing may be a little different than the mainstream gaming and comic demographic. I'm 44 with 2 kids, I don't have time to read web comics, I barely have time for Xwing, and web comics were not around when I was younger, so it's not something that's on my radar. Having said that, it is pretty cool.
I love gaming, but have never been too much into comics. where I grew up there were not any, and as an adult I have enjoyed a few but I guess since it was not a part of my childhood I have not felt the need to get into it as an adult.
It's interesting that each different game tends to have it's own set of gamers. sometimes they cross over, sometimes they dont.
Warhammer gamers very different from pokemon set, even though there are those who play both
I'd heard of PAX and I'd heard of Penny Arcade, but I don't know much about either and never supposed there was a connection between the two. When it comes to gaming events, I'm all about GenCon, EVO, Pokemon World Championships, and FFG World Championships.
