Prediction of the worst objective to pick during wave 4

By Lyraeus, in Star Wars: Armada

So, a bit out but I predict that many won't want to play/choose Fire Lanes in wave 4.

In wave 1 it was Intel Sweep (until WWPDSteven assisted in cracking that one).

In wave 2 it was Advanced Gunnery (until SE of us said **** it and choose it anyway)

Wave 3 is still up in the air but it could be Fleet Ambush (have flotillas out of position or too close to the enemy can be BAD!)

Wave 4 is Fire Lanes because of what Spinal Turbolasers might do. If they "increase" and not "add" to the front arc, we could be seeing Liberty's Nebulon-B's, and VSD's with 4-5 red dice out the front. That will shift a Fire Lanes FAST

What are your thoughts?

I think your thoughts on Fire Lanes is... misguided.

It'll really not be that different from how it is right now, when flying Star Destroyers...

... I mean, Generally, I'm getting Fire Lanes at the moment by the fact that, its my objective, they are close to me...

You might get to add 3-4 Red Dice from a Liberty...

... But I'm adding 4 Reds and 2 Blues from being at much closer range with my Assault Cruiser.

Fire lanes for a Forward Arc ship can be tricky, as you want to move towards them, but you can't run over them... That can funnel you into Asteroids and Debris.

...

Personally, I forsee no change in the pickup./use/desiribility of the Fire Lanes or Contested Outpost objectives.

Those who are Good at it now, will be good at it then.

G7 Gravity wells will make fleet ambush particularly deadly. The ambush area can already get a little congested and if a grav token goes at the mid point you can be in a lot of trouble.

Sure, that is true but that is 1 ship. Looking at a Fleet perspective, 1 Liberty with 4 red dice, 2 Nebulon-B's with 4 red dice, a CR90 with 1-2 red dice and assorted squadrons (who add nothing). It is a LOT of dice at long range while you may/may not want to jump into the lanes because the Liberty list will want to joust you.

Interdictiors can easily change that as well. . . Ohhh that reminds me. . . We might see a resurgence of Garm builds to counter G7's.

Opening salvo may be a bit risky too. What if the enemy have Tarkin and 10+ flotillas...

Its just as likely that I'll have Cracken and 3 Assault Frigates.

And I will Laugh.

SO HARD.

I'm hoping to see some new objectives soon. I play the ones I know I like, but some new ones would be nice.

Personally I find Opening Salvo a trap. Flotillas will change that but wearing your lead in points if you have battle damage seems bad for instance.

Each objective works differently depending on the list.

For instance, Superior Positions is actually amazing game with a Nebulon-B fleet because an opponent has to be almost directly behind he Nebulon-B to get the shot for he points. It is even better because the Nebulon-B's like to joust so their sides are exposed but the rears are not.

One just has to test things and ideas. Objectives, while the same change based on the list used.

I think Contested Outpost is going to effectively disappear. Grav Wells make that scenario a nightmare for both sides.

CP will be still be great. You can get in range turn 1 with the right setup gegardless of Grav Well as second player. If you bring you're own that makes CP even better for second player. Measure 3 distance + the base of the smallest ship in from one side of the setup area an have AOE of 6+ to set their deploysment to 0. This will massively slow their advance on the Objective. Same for Firelanes.

The issue Firelanes faces isn't much different in Wave 4 compared to Wave 2. There are to many Red Dice swarms to make it safe all of the time.

Worst Picks as First Player?

1) Most Wanted, I name my Floatila and X ship of yours.

Worst Inclusions as Second Player

1) Opening Salvo, there a a lot of ships on the board now between Wave3 / Wave 4. If your surviving ship costs you half your points a game that is awful.

2) Advanced Gunnery, the only extra fear between now and Wave 4 is the Liberty but a ton of people are going to play it. If the Liberty also gets an Avenger style upgrade (like it appears there is) then this will sink lower. Gunnery Teams slots could be a popular choice for anti Floatilas meaning your ISD/Liberty can't do both AG and GT.

That just means your opponent will short list the other 2 for consideration.

That happens with Most Wanted anyways. I do it with a CR90 and don't include that objective in a list that I have few ships.

Advanced Gunnery is going to be amazing in my Liberty and Friends list. People will pick it becuase they know I can't put it on the dreaded Liberty but here comes Salvation rolling 4 dice!

Well precision strike will be high risk to have with bomber commands and cheap squadron pushers. If the other player out bombers you the points will rack up fast.

Adv gunnery is almost gone for me as is. ISDs and Libertys are both usually going to run gunnery teams, so if you have it in your list and you run into someone packing an MC80 defiance you could well have a rough day.
