The Last Expansion...

By Felswrath, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Don't worry, I don't have any insider information! I just got to thinking, in only a year and half, we've gone from having a desert, forest, imperial station, and scum buildings, to where we are now with the iconic cantina, star destroyer bridge, snow plains, Echo Base, and Cloud City. I suspect that Imperial Assault will continue on its course of success (SW Insider just ranked it #3 for best Star Wars tabletop games of all time; beating out Armada in #4!). But my question for you is if we were to only get one more expansion what would it be? Would it be a large expansion potentially adding a new type of terrain (like desert, snow, scum building), or would it be a small expansion expanding upon what we already have (TS gave us more desert and Imp base, BG gives us more indoor tiles)? Where would it take place? The plains and streets of Lothal? The halls and rooms of Jabba's Palace? The catwalks of Nar Shadaa? The ash and lava of Sullust? What would it be?

My first choice would be a small box Kashyyyk; complete with treetop villages.

My second choice would be a big box Kamino; the walkways, platforms, and cloning facilities would be an amazing back drop for a campaign as the rebellion desperately attempts to halt the Empire.

Well these are my picks!

I'd hope for Jabba's Palace. With a Sarlacc pit to travel too - I love that location - and on the PS4 it's my favorite location in the Outer Rim on Battlefront. Sullust would be a close second.

It'd have to be an expansion that would kill all interest in IA.

So probably a Yuuzhan Vong expansion.

If I had to pick only one more expansion, It'd be a tough pick between something on Endor, and an expansion based around Rebels. I really want an Ahsoka figure, but I also really want a Jedi Luke and Ewoks...

what about a TFA one then as well for things like Kylo Ren

In all seriousness I'd say a Dark Empire campaign. As that was the last time the Empire/Imperial Remnant ever stood a chance against the Rebels/New Republic.

Plus it was when Palpatine died for good and had tons of jedi/sith for those fans.

An Endor expansion would work well for this game.

I'd hope for Jabba's Palace. With a Sarlacc pit to travel too - I love that location - and on the PS4 it's my favorite location in the Outer Rim on Battlefront. Sullust would be a close second.

Absolutely! Would love to see a Jabba's Palace with Gammorean Guards, Jabba figure, and a Rancor!

I fully expect to see an Endor expansion with Speeder Bikes and Ewoks.

You guys really want the LAST expansion to be Jabba's palace? Thats a pretty anti-climatic end to IMPERIAL Assault...

I'd love the taking of Corusant to be the last box. Get sweet city/imperial fortress tiles with imperial elites and possibly and the campaign would be amazingly fun.

I think Kashyyyk would be great. The tiles can double as Endor too, since Ewoks were originally going to be Wookiees. Also, the Shadowlands gives you a chance for some exotic plant depictions and an excuse to include another dangerous beast like the Terentatek, which has a history of being hunted by, or feasting on Force Users.

Much as I am adverse to a Jabba's Palace expansion, I am far more adverse to Dark Empire! Now don't get me wrong, I by no means hate Legends. I think I would take the twenty years between 3 and 4 over Rebels (I haven't seen season 2 which I am told is good.)! But there were some exceptions. In my opinion the two comics that best embodied the worst of Legends are Ewoks and Dark Empire. Heck I even preferred the Marvel comics to those! Ewoks was STUPID. Dark Empire had some of the worst coloring I have ever seen in a comic! And the story was pure garbage: Emperor lives on in effeminate naked clones. He wants to possess Leia's unborn child. Boba lives and hunts Han in Slave II (really?). Han and Chewie encounter some weird floating ball guy who tampers with the Falcon. Luke pretends to go to the darkside. I could go on! In short Disney was right in how they went about with the new EU. the good stuff from the old EU can come back, but junk like the Yuzzun Vong and Dark Empire are gone (for now, and should stay that way)!

I pretty much agree with everything you said. However, and I know I'm in the minority here. Disney honestly isn't proving to be much better. Kylo Ren and Snoke are horrible characters. The story is nostalgia powered and strip away the Star Wars aspect and honestly it doesn't hold up well on its own.

How can you say Snoke is a horrible character, you know nothing about him! That's like saying the Emperor is a horrible character in Empire Strikes back.

Well don't worry, I am fairly certain we'll never see a Dark Empire expansion. At this rate I'd be honestly surprised to see any legends stuff. I'm just saying that fighting a fat-ass slug on a desert planet is pretty anti-climatic to the end of IMPERIAL Assault.

Though now that I think about it... Dark Empire had a Royal Guard Champion in the background...

Internal spaceship tiles, that come with rules for fighting boarding actions in Armada. That way, You can board spaceships mid game!

I still can't believe FFG have had Star Wars tabletop games at 3 different scale levels for 2 years now and still haven't published rules for combining them in a single afternoon's play. It would be much better than Epic scale X-wing.

funny you say that, i was just saying the other day that if a couple people are inclined enough to really sit down and play. this idea can last for weeks of game play

they start with rebellion, when a fleet battle happens: rather than using the dice to decide, they move to a game of armada to decide the fate. and in armada, when squadrons engage each other, they use X wing games to decide their fate.

and for any ground invasions yo use imperial assault to decide the fate

that single game of rebellion could take months to finish.. but man, how epic would that be?

Rebellion was one of my favorite Star Wars titles. It ranks up there with X-Wing vs TIE Fighter and Jedi Knight. It could have benefited with some graphic updating, but it was a great concept with lots of replay ability due to the randomness of resources of most planets from game to game. My friend and I played almost nightly on on crossover-connected laptops during a 6 month Eastern pacific deployment. So I too have thought about having a game that features IA and X-Wing or Armada working in tandem.

Endor. With Ewoks, rebel commandos, standard Imperial army troops, and scout troopers with one scout on a speederbike.

Or a Corusant campaign would be pretty cool. Could introduce some cool new scum models that way. Troop types could be gangs and police/security forces.

Hmmmm....

Okay, I want Rebels in the this game, so I hope that happens BEFORE the last expansion.

BUT, thematically speaking, if there is to only be ONE LAST expansion, then it of course needs to be the final battle on Jakku.
