doc_cthulhu's Project Log

By doc_cthulhu, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

I received my copy of WFRP3 yesterday and have been reading it furiously since. Some points have risen that will force me to alter my sheet (look at the signature for current version) but they'll have to wait for our group having the time to test the system so that I can really get a feel about the sheet.

At the meantime I'm planning on finishing by booklet for Village of Caradué (the old topic is gone with the wind with wfrp2-forum) and though it will more likely be presented without any stats (so that it can be used with any edition) I decided to start a log about these things anyway. Being unemployed really leaves you time to do a lot of stuff (like fan material for rpgs and painting skaven for Warseer's painting challenge).

Today I've mostly been doing a map of the village. Looks like crap and will most likely to stay that way because it serves it function anyway.

Caradue_map.jpg

Your map is ten times better than anything i could come up with, i can write a campaign, i can paint models (working at GW for a few years really helped on that front) but making maps of drawing in anyway shape or form... no chance!

I love the look of that map. I always had a soft spot for hand drawn stuff, even stuff drawn using CAD with a hand drawn symbol set.

Loved your map, loved your character sheet, loved your fan-site

I am now a member of your Hammerzeit community.

Warhammer fans keep giving of themselves like there`s no tomorrow.

you guys rocks.

As I'm having some issues to upload this thing to Hammerzeit I just uploaded it on my own web-space until I further notice. So a Bretonnian village can be downloaded from HERE. The thing is actually made for WFRP2 but as there are no states it can easily be used with WFRP3 (though it mentions Storm of Chaos a couple of times). With a little change of names it can also be located in Reikland. I hope you like it and will comment on it.

Now - if anyone can advice me why in Sigmar's name Strange Aeons doesn't work on my mac even though I updated my java I can begin the next project. Mutation deck for WFRP3! :P

Double-posting for the win!

I'm currently working on Blasphemous Cults 3 - The Cult of the Shadowlord. First draft of the "player's section" was just finished and I was wondering if I could have some proof-reading/opinions? I'm in no hurry with this and the GM's section isn't even started yet so there are no major deadlines for it.

Should you be interested contact me at doc_cthulhu (ät) hotmail (dot) com.

The Cult of the Possessed (notice the change of name) is (hopefully) nearly finished. Second round of proof-reading is on the way so I'm hoping to get it published during this month.

Naturally this means that I've have to direct my energy into another project and as our current campaign (or should I say season 1) is having its final tomorrow I decided to try writing a campaign.

The ending of this particular campaign is almost finished already and now I've started to build a road to it. The campaign takes place in the Grey Mountains near Ubersreik and will include at least:

  • a threat of a border war between Empire and Bretonnia (that will quite possibly turn from a threat into reality)
  • Castle Sanglac (from KotG), La Maisontaal and some more iconic locations as well as new ones
  • NO skavens (chaos cults are on the consideration)
  • Investigation and (hopefully) CoC:ish atmosphere

Now is there anything that You would like to see in a campaign like this? I'm not planing on creating new rules (though I've wondered about raising a warband and mass combats) but will use only published rule set including Liber Fanatica.

All ideas, comments and "hey we could play test parts of this!" are more than welcome!

Though these kinds of things tend to take a lot of time. Which I actually have pretty much these days. ^^

edit: Oh, and by the way - the reason of this being a Daily Empire project rather than LF project is to avoid time schedules (so I can focus on LF when needed).

Since there's ALWAYS (more or less) some sort of shadowy presence of Skaven, Chaos or whatnot in all the official (and unofficial) adventures and campaigns I'd prefer if this was 100 % human centric. Focus on noble intrigue and good old fashioned power struggles. If you think you can pull it off you can time your release with the Slaanesh/Noble supplement coming now in december.

Make sure to use and re-use the big names from Edge of Night, Gathering Storm like Jungfreud, Bruners, Von Saponatheim and Aaschaffenberger but with enough leevay so the campaign won't stall just because some group happened to kill off this or that Graf in an earlier adventure.

I think a small skirmish on the border with some mass combat rules could be a great way to end the campaign (and perhaps begin another).

Even though the focus is the threat of a border war; keep it local, "low-key" and gritty. Perhaps having some sort of agent from the Emperor and Queen (is it?) from Brettonia play a shadow war but let the campaign focus on normal human failings such as greed, lust for hunger, prejudicm and fear instead of two countries on the verge of war (if that makes any sense).

Cool idea anyways, hope I gave you some food for thought.

EDIT: and also, keep in line with what FFG have been doing and expand and build upon the region around Ubersreik!

I'm running the finale for our campaign (enlarged version of EoN) tonight and just spotted the key "adventure hook" there.

Grey Lady Pass has been targeted by greenskin attack lead by a new orc leader.

I don't know about you guys but to me this with the pics and whatnots from the seminar give an idea that there's going to be a scenario based on Grey Lady Pass with Bretonnians and Orcs (would go well with the current style of supplements).

Now what this means to me is that until SOME info about future is given I like to keep my fingers away from the fire that is Grey Lady Pass and the relations between Empire and Bretonnia (that is lead by the King btw.) and grander scale.

So there will be some politics, greenskins and magic but at least in the beginning they'll be low level. I'm planning this campaign for 2nd rank characters - because my group just reached second rank and I think that second rank allows still kind of down-to-earth campaign with rising influencing chances as the characters are getting near to the advanced careers.

If all goes well this campaign would be written before this year is over and could actually be "published" at the same time as the Lust for Power. And if writing still is fun I think there might be a sequel for 3rd rank characters. And THEN the shadow war between Empire and Bretonnia could be more prevailing as the characters should have access to careers like spy and assassin.

All in all I like the way you think bladerunner_35 and will certainly go down that road. Though the beginning may vary a bit. Thanks for the encouragement!

Any other ideas anybody?

-------- SPOILERS about FFG scenarios might follow ------

I was also considering about the way that published adventures tend to use "the betrayer" and the "monster of the week" as the actuation. I played with a thought that the campaign would include only a handful of NPCs (giving me the opportunity to build them as memorable persons and not just "extras"). None of them would be written as "the bad guy" but each would be presented with an opportunity for GM to turn them into one.

This would mean that each character would have a "if I'm bad this is why and how"-kind of explanation in their description so that GMs could choose an adversary suitable for his/hers campaign. I also thought that should I do this I should also include a handout for one PC as well! As GMs know their players well they should be able to decide if certain player would be able to play a "villain" of the story. This "villain trait" could be given any time during the adventure or it could be built into the characters background as well.

Naturally this kind of "free form background" would mean that the basic structure of the campaign should be a bit railroading and the adversary would not be encountered until the last episode.

Just an idea still though.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

While layouting the Cult of the Possessed I was bored by its outlook. If somebody out there has some random drawings that could be used to separate columns and chapters I would be grateful. You know swords and skulls and rats and whatnot.

I finished the Cult of the Possessed a while ago. It can be downloaded HERE.

Currently I'm working for the next edition of Liber Fanatica.

And on the side I'm making a new character sheet (see the discussion about it HERE) and writing the campaign that was discussed above.

The campaign comes along with a slow pace as I decided to try to wait for the lure of power and only write what our group will be playing. I will publish part of the campaign as separate scenarios as they come along. Next Tuesday I'll be leading my group to the Sanglac Castle and hopefully get a chance to play test the whole written scenario so it can be posted online. A little sneak of what is coming can be found in THIS topic.
