Kaboom.

By Rogue Dakotan, in X-Wing

So for our local X-Wing league this time around I've decided to run Tie Bombers every week as they're my favorite ship in the game.

Fist week I ran Gamma+EM+Proton Bombs x4.

I will probably do a full writeup of the match later if I have time, but I wanted to share this glorious moment.

Bye bye Deathrain.

I ended up wining 100/0, though I got very lucky that I didn't lose a ship. 2 had only one hull left and my opponent's red dice were not cooperative.

I love Tie Bombers, but haven't done many bombs besides Seismic Charges. I always scratch my head when people say it doesn't have a good dial.

It doesn't have a good dial compared to the Squint, the f/o and the TAP which are probably the most commonly used TIEs I think.

It has a very solid dial. Better if you equip TIE mk2.

Oh, but then no Guidance Chip or LRS! :o

Well....part of what makes an Interceptor great is that it has a lot of greens. PTL requires it. You don't really need that many greens for the Tie Bomber. I mean, it does the 5 K-turn often enough, but I'm fine with it's greens. Oh, I wouldn't complain for more, mind you, but I'm not complaining with what it has.

Well done.

I've never had much luck with bombs but I do love my Tie Bombers.

Next week I think I'll try Jonus + 3 scimitars all with conc missiles.

Soon I'll be able to run McDibs and 4 scimitars loaded with mines. :D :D :D :D

Bombs are great.

Even if you don't hit with them, they still force your opponent to throw off his maneuvering. the threat of being bombed is super effective.

Psssssh who puts ordnance in a bomber? they are for carrying your Defenders' buddies.

It's not TIE Bombers, but i've had a lot of fun with this scum bomber list:

Emon Azzameen - 45
Zuckuss
Andrasta
Feedback Array
Seismic Charge x3

Syndicate Thug - 27
Auto blaster Turret
Bomb Loadout
Extra Munitions
Proton Bombs
Genius

Binayre Pirate -14

I have a squad in mind to be that squad from that anime, and I think it will be a brute.

Standard Super Soontir, Omega Leader and Tomax Bren. Yeah.

Yeah, wrong era I know, but there isn't really a TIE l/n who is good enough and fills out the points well enough. They look basically the same anyway.

Take Dark Curse with Stealth Device, he is a normal Tie, and Very annoying to kill.

Psst, Omeaga Leader, who needs that silly Tie FO...

Next week I think I'll try Jonus + 3 scimitars all with conc missiles.

Don't do it. Just....don't. I've flown Jonus a lot and he's not worth it, especially with Extra Munitions around. Just drop him and load everyone up with Homing Missiles for fewer points. You get to re-roll as many dice as you want (instead of 2). You don't have to fly in formation (which is huge). They don't get to use Evade. It's cheaper to go with Homing Missiles than it is to use Jonus and it's better in every way to use Homing Missiles.

My favorite list is 4 x Scimitar Pilot w/ EM, Homing Missile, GC, and Seismic Charges. Better once LRS comes out.

With U-boats being a thing, I would change it to 4 x Gamma Squadron w/ EM, Homing Missiles, and GC. I love the Bombs, but if you want to play vs. tournament people, you need the PS bid. If you DON'T play vs. tournament people, then go with the first list. The Bombs are so much fun...

Errrrr....me! Lots of people. They are awesome with ordnance! Just wait till Vets comes out and you can go with Tomax! He will be awesome!

It's filling the points that is the issue. Dark Curse is great but still only 20-odd points, which leaves 9 or more unspent in that squad.

Wrong ship. This is definitely going to have Soontir and Bren. Needs a hex-winged TIE of some sort, and OL is The Best in that genre, especially when Howl isn't that useful to the squad.

Nice; I have to learn that threats of violence many times is just as powerful or more than powerful as actual violence.

Whenever the Imperial Veterans FINALLY comes out (FFG is probably waiting for the tournaments to be over I'll bet), then I'm trying:

Jonus’ Bomber Crew

28 Captain Jonus – TIE Bomber (22), Concussion Missiles (4), Extra Munitions (2), and Guidance Chip (0)

23 Gamma Squadron Pilot – TIE Bomber (18), Concussion Missiles (4), Extra Munitions (2), and Guidance Chip (0)

People target Jonus right away. He dies first and then you get no modification for your Bombers. They have to fly in formation and get flanked by arc dodgers quite easily. If you just made everyone the same and used those spare points to upgrade to Homing Missiles, you would be so much more effective without the weak point of Jonus. You would even have points left over to bump everyone up to Gamma Vets.

I've been flying scimitar with homing missiles, EM, GC, siesmics X4

I usually just fan them out and try to come in at several different angles. Whichever one my opponent tries to kill first will probably be down to a few hull next round, so he becomes a blocker while the rest either block or 5K around if the have a TL left. Just make sure when you set up and set an approach through asteroids you make sure there's room to do the 5k. My favorite move with bombers is dropping a bomb into a 5k by far.

How much do you guys thing Imperial Veterans is gonna help tie bombers? I'd say a TL focus with EM is about the same as just a TL with GC, but I also thing the new generic with an EPT is gonna be great. Don't care about the Tie Shuttle title that much because I don't want to fly in formation with a Jonus as support.

You want the speed three green banks if you're going to run a bomber buddy with a /x7 Defender. And you want to do that.

Similarly, the 1-speed banks if you want to run one with the Inquisitor. And you do.

I never run anything more than Seismics purely because bombs arent exactly easy to use and besides Seismics theyre also expensive.

Seismics are 2pts. Dirt **** cheap, if you dont get it off oh well no biggie. If you do , sweet 1 damage done.

Proxies are 3pts. Still cheap, but theyre evaded pretty easily unless you can put them between two rocks right as someone is trying to fly through it. Even then, they might ***** by. The main issue here is they take your action, so you have to put them down AFTER you move and you dont get a focus, TL, evade, or barrelroll depending on your ship.

Clusters are 4pts. Rather take these over proxies because theyre a lot harder to avoid completely, but have the same action issue. Deathfire will see a lot of use for me when he comes out, since he can dump his bomb completely free.

Dont own connernets so i cant comment on them.

Proton bombs are SO EXPENSIVE for 1 crit. Really feel like all the bombs should be even cheaper than they are, since theyre so hard to pull off. Ive never had that crit actually be worth the damage. Though if you have extra-munitions it goes a longer way since you get 10pts of stuff for 7, instead of 4 for 4 on seismics lol.

And i really dont get why people say bombers have a bad dial. They have a 5k, which kinda sucks since thats a really long flip that could get you into trouble sometimes, but other than that i love that dial especially with Mk2 upgrade so they have 9 greens lol. Only reason i prefer the punisher is because 2 bomb slots :D i dont get why the ship actually called BOMBER has less bombs than a ship called PUNISHER...which makes me think lots o missiles n dakkastuff.

edit: ...wait... that got bleeped? really? that is not a bad word...wth

I think once the expansion comes out that you will have much better options for sticking just one Tie Bomber in your list. It can be a Tie Shuttle....or a Bomb expert....or just one awesome ordnance carrier. They have all sorts of new stuff for that. It will be a better option than before (and I have tried it before to decent effect).

Gamma Vet with Deadeye means you only have 5 pts left (to go with 4 of them). So, that's either Extra Munitions and Plasma or Homing Missile and no second shot.

Also...what's TV?

plasma torps do work. They just dont have the die modifier conc or proton torps do.

ive ran rebels a few times and threw a random plasma torp on an xwing because i had 3pts lying around. It somehow always does a lot of damage lol

Yeah, I've mostly run Seismic. I don't like the action for the Mines. Deathfire will be really cool to try out different Mines.

I actually like the 5 K-turn, especially on low PS Bombers as it means you will most likely clear the enemy in front of you. Also, if you are going with LRS, it will give you the distance to grab the TL that you need.
