Poe + Red Ace =?

By Kyl0REN, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Poe and Red Ace would make a powerful Shield regen combo

Poe Dameron - 37 points

Autothrusters - 2

VI- 1

R5-P9 - 3

Red Ace - 38 points

Autothrusters - 2

Comm Relay - 3

R2-D2 - 4

So what would make a good last ship or two? I was thinking a stressbot or two Bandit squadron pilots

I always have 25/26 points to fill in a Rebel build, theses are the different things I fill it with(in no particular order)

Stressbot or 2 Zs are good options, maybe one bandit and one Tala to have 3 ships shoot before a JM5K.

Biggs can be good to protect from the alpha strike, you could find an extra point to get him an astromech (adaptability on Poe or integrated Astromech on RA).

Those 25 points can also get you Tarn w/R7, not as great recently, but still hard to kill in the end game if 1-on-1.

A Rebel Operative with TLT and Jan Ors. Load up that evade for Red Ace round one, then use it on the Hwk to keep it alive, or reload Red Ace if you need to spend the evade on a second attack.

There are several versions of an Attack Shuttle that fit the 24-25 point spot.

You can also find 2 points(AT from Red Acel to take a 27 point Jake Farrell.

And finally you can get a Dagger, as with Tarn, not as good as it once was.

Ok that's good.Any other options?

Depends what you expect to be facing (local meta and all).

There's not much more you can field in there. My only other thought is a A-Wing blocker (Prototype with Chard refet, ATs) or a named Z-95 like Lt. Blount with Ion missiles for some control.

I'd say either Biggs or stressbot depending on your local meta. Stressbot is better if you see a lot of aces, and Biggs will help against any ordnance lists you see.

I did very well with the following list at a recent club tourney.

35 Poe (31), VI (1), R5-P9 (3), IA (0)

36 Red Ace (29), Comms Relay (3), R2-D2 (4), IA (0)

29 Kyle Katarn (21), Jan Ors (2), TLT (6)

Poe and Red Ace do their regen thing. Kyle follows a little way behind them and feeds Poe Focus tokens if he gets bumped, stressed, needs to pull a Red or wants to Boost/TL. Jan gives Red Ace an Evade token on turn 1 to charge up the Comms Relay and can also be used to give Poe an Evade on turn 2 for a little extra resilience. The TLT on the Hawk allows it to make a solid contribution to the battle meaning the opponent cannot simply ignore it.

I found the list was really good. The ability to virtually guarantee Poe a Focus token was great against blockers and Jand Jan Ors came in useful several times. The Hawk rarely survived to the end of the game but it did a great job in powering up the T70s and chipping away at the enemy.

Poe was great and did his thing. VI allowed him to take down Whisper in one game and allows him to make the most of his Boost. Red Ace is an absolute tank and never died in any of my games. The only time I lost her was when I got my dial inverted in the heat of battle and flew her off the board. :o

The only caveat is that this was just before Jumpmasters arrived. Massed Ordnance might make life awkward for Regen lists since they can lay down a lot of damage in one go, before the droids can repair the shields. However everyone in this list is PS6 or above meaning that you will fire before most Odrnance caddies, even the forthcoming Gamma Sqaudron Veterans. Also, if you remember the Rule of 11, you should be able to deny your opponent a satisfactory alpha strike as the T70s have ability to move from outside Range 3 to Range 1 in a single move, especially if they boost.

Whilst you will be unlikely to be able to prevent your opponent from firing ordnance at all, you will likely be able to saplit their fire and prevent them from focussing down one of your T70s before it can start repairing its shields. If your opponent spends his ordnance on the Hawk, console yourself with the thought that it is your least valuable ship and is primarily there to keep your T70s alive. If it does so at the cost of its own life, that falls under the category of "acceptable losses". :P

This list uses IAs instead of Autothrusters. This was a tricky choice dictated by the cost of necessary upgrades for the ships. In the post-Jampmaster era, you may decide that Autothrusters are more valuable, particularly as they can also mitigate long-ranged ordnance shots. The following list is a variation that cuts the Hawk to the bone in order to squeeze autothrusters onto the T70s.

36 Poe (31), Adaptability (0), R5-P9 (3), Autothrusters (2)

38 Red Ace (29), Comms Relay (3), R2-D2 (4), Autothrusters (2)

26 Kyle Katarn (21), Jan Ors (2), Dorsal Turret (3)

I have this that someone built for me. :)

Might not be as good as those above but can be built from both starter boxes and a TIE/fo and T70 X-wing
