Star Wars - Game of the Name (An NPC Name Resource)

By Simon Retold, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

We've all had those times when the PCs went off script and ended up doing something completely unexpected. The truth is, it happens for us every game session. Invariably, they run into some NPC, and you find yourself needing a name... but your mind is drawing a blank! At least that's how it works for me.

I put this PDF together for my own use, to be honest. But when my son asked him to print off a copy for himself, I thought... "Hey, maybe others will get some use out of it, too."

So here it is... a resource containing 390 names - 15 names for each letter of the alphabet - including a few Wookiee and Chiss-specific names. Hope it's helpful for someone.

Always looking for more help with names. Those darn players always expect everyone to have a name. What's with that?

This looks great, thanks!

There are a few Easter Egg names in there, ones that might elicit a chuckle from your players, too.

I've sometimes considered letting players name the NPCs. I worry, though, that things may devolve into silliness...

At least one of my players devolves into silliness naming his own characters.

This made me smile... I did MINIMUM prep for my WFRP 2ed game..... my playersd still didn't chat to the main NPCs I'd named, personality quirked, backgrounded, thumbnail historyed or lives here on the village mapped *sigh* except the generic Innkeeper's Wife and one I threw as a carrot & stick to keep plot moving

I've played in game like that ...Val Kyrie, half-orc female barbarian.. Gervais the Flashing Blade (my character) and wait for it... Bob the Robber!!!

That's it, I'm naming my next Sith Konspirian Cowl.

Adding an N is perfectly acceptable. *chuckles*

Is a name list like this useful?

Would you like a similar last for cantinas and other drinking establishments?

What other kinds of lists would be helpful?

I happen to believe that the single most important thing we humans do is naming things. The name drives the entire narrative after that. Luke Starkiller is a totally different character from Luke Skywalker.

So, any more lists of names of things that you want to come up with, is something I would fully and totally support.

Great resource, thanks!
