You could make the comparison between the TIE Interceptor and Fighter to gain insight. An Alpha Squadron Interceptor has 3/3/3/0, boost action, and green hard turns instead of white at 18 points (and different k-turns). The Academy has 2/3/3/0 and no boost. Both are PS 1.
There are flaws in a head to head comparison. I won't enumerate them for the sake of staying on point.
There is a six point difference between the two ships. It seems most of that cost would be due to the additional red die and secondarily the addition of boost. So what do you remove to drop the Interceptor chassis at 18 points down to the proposed chassis at 12?
The proposed stat line of 3/1/?/? will greatly change the durability compared to the Interceptor. Two less green dice throws away an average of about 2/3 evades per attack without focus, a little over 1 evade per turn using focus. The value of the two green dice varies in proportion to how many hull and shields they protect. If they are protecting only 2 hull and will likely only be rolled once or twice, the value decreases accordingly. This hints at why A-Wings seem so hard to kill. The 2/2 hull/shield behind 3 greens seem to result in one more shot to kill compared to the 3 hull Interceptor.
If that 3 attack die has only one green, it does start to look like a B-Wing (3/1/5/3 at 22 points) but with a much more nimble dial proposed. I can't help but think if the proposed ship is too easily one-shot with only 2 hull, it may not see play. A joust between BBBBZ and 8x the proposed design may leave only half of the new ships after the B's shoot.
It's been suggested that it only has Focus in the action bar. I'm thinking it might be more interesting to give it Evade, 2 hull and no shields. That gives the player interesting choices.
