Acrylic Templates: Where to get'm?

By Vineheart01, in X-Wing

Do yourself a favor and get these excellent ones from CurledPawCustoms on Etsy.

I also have to say this one is great. I got mine there and at least one other local lad snagged a set. Great price, VERY high quality, fast delivery...

Look on etsy for Highbridge Brewing, though - they have a good deal with a full set of templates plus the laser cut tray to carry them.

Heh. It tickles me how fast stuff travels through the grapevine.

A few months ago, a local player named Noel had a Highbridge Brewery tray, with holes cut out at the center, so in order to "eject" the templates, you had to lift the tray. I was like, "That's not a good design," and wrote the guy on Etsy, and asked for the same tray, but with cut-outs at the ends of each slot.

I bought a couple of other players in my group, and the tray is now everywhere.

Team Covenant.

I hate the litko stuff. All of the bank Maneuvers are two millimeters short. I have 2 sets and they both have the same problem.

I love my Team covenant templates.

The curled paw tokens are a great deal compared to the completion. I like them a lot.

High bridge brewing template holder is a must have as well IMO.

Word does travel fast, I can attest. I'm the guy behind Highbridge http://www.etsy.com/shop/HighbridgeBrewing, and I've stayed busy making those trays.

I may be biased, but I think the wooden tray is indispensable when I play, and I'll take this opportunity to thank Jeff again for helping push a better design. (Noel ended up getting a replacement tray with the improvements on me. Couldn't have my early adopters being mocked by all those with the newest toys!)

While you're there, check out the acrylic damage deck holders.

It's hard to imaging going back to a pile of loose cards sliding around on the table.

I make a bunch of other tokens and templates as well. My goal is a simple, nice looking design that's clearly visible across the table. That, and I ship everything ready to play. No painting or peeling once you get them.

This is really stretching the boundaries of "affordable" but I got a set of these drool-worthy gems.

I'm not sure if he's still making them, but man, playing with CNC milled aluminum templates is the way to fly. And that's coming from a guy who makes lots and lots of acrylic templates.

This is the vendor I have been considering the most on etsy, but I can't decide between their templates or cogotwo.

Consider this another vote for Curled Paw on Etsy.

Great templates and acrylics, great pricing, fast shipping and order filling, and great customer service.

When I ordered from the German site I don't remember shipping being much different than the US companies.

I love these as they are so much better than the boring monochromatic ones.

You have good taste, those were my choice as well!

This thread is an interesting contrast to the recent threads about micro machines ships and "proxy" cards.

Everyone seems happy to use third party rulers and templates. But suggest using a non-FFG, appropriate scale, ship or a printed off upgrade card and some people call shenanigans.

Thats because FFG allows third party templates and tokens and explicitly forbids non-FFG ships and requires you to have the original upgrade cards. Thats all tournament talk, of course, do what you want at home, but in that setting follow the rules given.

there is a difference between proxying the main object of the game and using third party accessories.

Cardboard does not last forever and is pliable, so not as good for sustained play over a long period of time as acrylic. If FFG made their own tokens and templates (which they could and should do) for sale. I would buy them in a heartbeat.

Proxying the ships with MicroMachines is basically like pirating a video game. You are using a product of a company without paying for it. In the sense that they developed this game and the ships are their medium for profiting from that game.

I got mine from Applied Perspectives. They were much more affordable than the others and not cluttered with logos or stuff.

Applied Perspective is what I used for templates and rulers. Their stuff is really sturdy and their range 5 ruler uses little magnets for easy assembly and storage. The blaze orange mirrored 1/2 range rulers are really nice. Also have their ship markers.

Tokens I would probably go team covenant.

I'll let you know how the Greenman Designs ones are, whenever I get them.

UUUUGH. I'm still waiting on mine, too.

Never got mine from Greenman. After 90 days and auto replies to my emails I disputed with PayPal and got my money back. I just got a set from curled paws on etsy. I like them a lot.

Hm. It's been a year, I wonder if Paypal would still allow a refund at this point?

I have a few things in my etsy wishlist, including a tray - your stuff looks great! Any plans to make more of the Epic ship token/template sets?

Im not a fan of those movement template trays because theyre rather bulky. Every tournament i goto we usually have like 4" between the mats, so i wouldnt be able to use those anyway.

Intending once i can find the time to goto Hobbylobby or Michaels to get some wood there and goto town with my drummel. Im artistic and i like to build things, only reason i dont make my own templates is because i want acrylic ones and i lack the tools to cut my own cleanly. Make a narrow but long tray to hold my stuff and do the slit thing for the templates.

Also, the reason FFG allows third party templates is because the only ones FFG offers is in the starterbox, and cardboard sucks. They warp, they fray with age, and if they bend at all it throws off a LOT of stuff. FFG doesnt allow third party ships because thats what they sell, so of course they wont like it if you use someone else's ships or cards.

Yeah the logical disconnect that equates 3rd party templates, which FFG doesn't sell and models and cards they do sell, is pretty massive.

Once you get the templates, then you need a boss template holder. I got this one from https://www.etsy.com/shop/HighbridgeBrewing?ref=search_shop_redirect

I got them to make me a lid for it, as well!

Or you can make this pencil box tournament transport someone posted on X-Wing Miniatures Mods and Repaints (Armada and IA too) Facebook group.

I know, he told me. (And how did you know we were mocking him?!) That is fantastic customer service. (I have two of your acrylic card-holders, and quite a few of your tokens. I particularly like the bombs, and your Extra Munitions are so much better than FFGs it's silly.)

What I've been wondering lately is whether it would be possible to get a template in high-quality wood, hinged on the short edge (or magnetized along the lip?), with a top compartment (not exactly the word, because it would be very shallow). So you'd be able to open this up length-wise along whatever edge you were playing on. As mentioned above, there's often not much room, so see if the layout could be slightly redesigned to save an inch or so?

How feasible do you think that is? (Not necessarily for you -- but if so, awesome! -- but in general? I primarily wonder how hard it is to laser-cut really good wood.)

I will second the opinion on the curled paw shop from etsy. great price and quality, wuick shipping and great customer service.

wow, I like those a lot! great pricing too

Yes, someone recently bought me out of epic ship kits, but I'm making more.

In addition to my curled paw templates, I purchased a variety of tokens from this guy. The mirrored shield tokens are awesome and always get noticed. http://recreatorstudios.com

Anybody have a good site for a USA delivery for acrylic templates/tokens?

All i can find are obscenely overpriced ebay offers (upwards of 60+ for just the movement templates and no divided range ruler) or overseas websites that have a heft shipping price. So far the best ive found is Cogotwo even if it is overseas.

What do you consider a "hefty shipping price" ?

I have found shipping from the UK to be far FAR more reasonable than USA shipping.

I just don't understand why US shipping is so expensive these days and seems to be getting worse.
