Ships from the clone wars

By Chrisael, in X-Wing

I am waiting for the First Order, and the Resistance to be cut into their own factions.

So far, that would only be 3 ships for each of them if every viable ship from TFA is added. T-70, Millennium Falcon, and Resistance transport for the Resistance, and TIE/fo, TIE/sf, and Upsilon shuttle for First Order. If they get spun off into separate factions, I would imagine that would at least be post-Episode 8 so that more ships will have time to be introduced.

Easy fix to add Clone Wars era ships to X-wing:

2 Factions: Good Guys and Bad Guys.

(Or Light and Dark.)

I don't wanna do it this way...but it would work. :)

It's already this way:

Good guys, the light: Imperials

Bad guys, the dark: Rebel scum, and Scum... I usually just say "Scum" but the addition of the third faction really messed with that.

The good guys are seeking to bring law and order to the universe. They even wear white! The bad guys are rogue break always who didn't get thier way and now want to destroy instead of discuss OR are only looking out for themselves and thier credits. Heck these two factions even share ships... Pretty clear cut of you ask me.

I'm sure there's a correlation between younger fans who saw TFA and got the TFA core set, and had grown up with the prequels and clone wars.

Well, that's not me for sure. I saw the original Star Wars in a movie theater in 1978. I watched Star Wars: The Clone Wars for the first time earlier this year. By the way, I know teens who are really into The Doors or Billy Wilder movies. I, for one, think this idea that you only know or like, or even just like better , what you grew up with is pure BS. But that's maybe just me. Of course, those I mentioned are smart teens. But do teens who like Justin Bieber and Twilight even play X-Wing? I think not.

Back in topic, re: it'd be bad business for FFG to include Clone Wars ships. Counter-argument: ever heard of Electronic Arts? AKA the world's fourth largest gaming company? Well, at the end of last year these dudes launched a Star Wars strategic game for mobile platforms that's called Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes . Madly successful. It features ALL the characters from the original trilogy, ALL the characters from TFA, and guess what, almost ALL the characters from Star Wars: The Clone Wars (interestingly, no characters from Rebels . At least so far). I say "almost" because it doesn't feature Gungans. Nope, no Jar Jar, not a single Gungan, not even a mention. Like they never existed. They've been entirely eradicated by Disney, erased from existence and the merchandising. But at the top tier of the meta you find Luminara Unduli, Ahsoka Tano, Asajj Ventress, Savage Opress, along with Rey, Phasma, Han, Luke and whatnot. My understanding is that players either know SW:TCW and they love them, or they don't even know where they're from, and don't care. They learn to appreciate them for what they do in the game, for their design, etc.

Now, I don't know much about the ships to be honest. I'm not an expert. In fact, I learned more about the original ships by playing X-Wing. If anything, I wish for X-Wing to teach me about the Clone Wars ships, too. But I know the characters. I know there's many great star pilots in SW:TCW. Many more than in the original trilogy, actually. And they're characters we know a lot about, because they appeared within a 120-hour series, as opposed to three 2-hour movies.

One thing I would definitely HATE, though, is to bring in Clone Wars stuff within existing factions. That can't be done. The Resistance is the evolution of the Rebellion; the First Order derives from the Empire. It makes sense to put them together. But the Republic and the Separatist Alliance are their own things. You can't mix them up. You can't put the Republic stuff (and I think mostly of pilots and upgrades; ships, we already know they can be shared between factions) with Rebels or Scum. How can they be Rebels? The Republic is an entirely different structure and ideology that doesn't originate the Rebellion. And what's a "Clone Wars Veteran", anyway? Only three types of beings fought in the Clone Wars: Jedi/Sith, clones and droids. All of them are extinct in the current X-Wing factions – with a few exceptions, but they don't exist as a group anymore.

Go get you some of the NEW Micro Machines, print some cards, and shut up your weekly crying because FFG is not going to make these ships.

The MOUSE has made it clear they are staying far from Georges CRAP. Mouse Don't Look Back...

Now you can be happy... most of the good ships are in the MM 2015 & 2016 ranges and they are ****-near in perfect scale too.

GO!

:)

As you mentioned Galaxy of Heroes is a good popular star wars mobile game. I have played it extensively as well (though not recently). They do have rebels characters in it. I've also played the star wars castle defense type game as well which also uses characters from all the movies and tv shows.

You'll notice what both games do is have light side and dark side. Which is what FFG should do as well IMO if they add the prequel content to the game. You'd have a light side faction with sub factions, a dark side faction with subfactions, and a scum faction (with or without subfactions). Light side would be Republic, Rebels, and Resistance. Dark side would be Separatists, Empire, and First Order. Boom, done! Fluff issues are moot as you already have biggs flying cover for poe and scum boba fighting against imperial boba and so on.

Back in the Prequel Trilogy and Clone Wars, Senator Palpatine (future Emperor Palpatine) were leading the Clone Army for the Republic.

They were fighting the Separatists who completely broke up at the end of the war or were incorporated into the Republic now Empire.

At the end of the war Order 66 was issued, the Clone Army killed all the Jedi and Emperor Palpatine reformed the Republic as the Empire and the Clone Army directly led into the volunteer Stormtrooper army we know from the Prequels.

If anything the Republic should be allied with the Imperials.

The Separatists were probably incorporated in the Empire so they'd go with them as well? Their mindset may be more akin to the Rebels and Resistance, but they'd fit in more with the Scum aesthetic... But the idea of droid fleets and Scum and Villiany really seem antithetical..

They do? Which ones? I haven't watched Rebels yet (bit thrown off by the design and younger audience's target), but I know neither the Inquisitors nor the Ghost crew are in Galaxy of Heroes. I assume they will be.

By the way, GoH is the proof Disney does care about the entire SW property, Clone Wars-era included. There's a big Disney logo on GoH. They'll mine the property THOROUGHLY and RELENTLESSLY, you can be sure of that.

I've also played the star wars castle defense type game as well which also uses characters from all the movies and tv shows.

Oh, this, I don't know. How is it called? I love tower defense games!

Or you can have Palpatine fighting against another Palpatine, for that matter. Realism in the actual game is certainly not a concern. It's a game, not a reenactment.

Light Side and Dark Side can be a solution, but only if there's also subfactions playable on their own. I think FFG cares for that, on some level.

Well, what's IG-88 if not a droid fleet? :)

The Republic is indeed a precursor to the Empire, but for merely technical reasons: it was the power system Palpatine hijacked. I don't think they could be put in a faction together. It's more about the ideological implications, which count more than the timeline. Like, you can imagine Poe Dameron and Wedge Antilles fighting for the same side, as they are fighting for the same cause. Whereas you can't easily picture a Jedi pilot fighting alongside the Sith Lord who (almost) exterminated them all.

I don't know that I want these ships. But I think they'll come sooner or later (if the game will remain supported for many years, which I hope). And if they come, I want them to be done right. And I think that has to be with new, separate factions, give or take some general wider umbrella to group light or dark sides together.

The tower defense game is called "Galactic Defense" But unfortunately it appears the game has shut down, possibly permanently.

I also apparently was wrong about GOH having Rebels characters, it's actually GD that does. But they don't have TFA characters.

They have Ezra, Zeb, the inquisitor, and kallus.

Irony?

Well they did make all 4 pilots unique so you can only have up to 4 even in an epic or escalation game. But I can still see clone war factions with a generic Arc-170 as plenty of ships cross factions.

I would just like to point out that there were in fact more than just clones, Jedi/Sith, and droids who fought in the clone wars. Clones and Jedi were the primary forces of the Republic, but we know from guys like Yularen and Tarkin that there were non-clone officers. We also know from Fenn Rau's backstory that the Mandalorian Protectors fought on the Republic side. Geonosians bugs, mercenaries, etc. fought for the Separtists, not just droids.

Yeah, you're right about that. I didn't think of it.

"Prequels suck" is to automatic a reaction for most of geek and sundry. While not flushing them entirely there does seem to be a "don't talk about the prequels" air within the new Star Wars merchandising programs. Rebels, OT, and the JJ abomination will be main sources from here on out. (Rogue One is Rebels/OT essentially.)

I dont like the prequels as movies for itself. In my opinion the prequels are bad movies But I like the prequels despite evrything because of the many, many shipdesigns and the sheer mass of aliens and content. The prequels make the star wars universe much much bigger. : )

And now the ARC 170 is out there and I will hope for N1, Droidfighters and all the other stuff from the clone wars. : D
