Unofficial X-Wing Squadron Builder Hits the Half Million Mark

By voidstate, in X-Wing

That's right. You guys have now saved over half a million x-wing squadrons! Well, 504,753 to be precise.

I actually missed the 500,000th squadron being saved a week ago: a neat Attack Shuttle Plus Double K-Wing List by a guy called Tristan Singleton. If anyone knows Tristan Singleton, please pass on a virtual magnum of vintage champagne from me.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has used and contributed to this web app. It's taken up a surprisingly large amount of my free time, especially for something that I was not, originally even going to put online. But I'm proud of where it has got to, of how many people use it from all over the globe, and even more proud that it was chosen for use in the Yavin Open to ease pre-registering the 500+ expected players.

I never thought this game would grow so big, but it's been a privilege to be swept along with it.

And I'd like to give a special thank you to the translators who have made it available in 5 additional languages.

Please keep building and sharing squadrons, sending me bug reports and playing X-Wing. And don't forget to like the Facebook page to get the latest news.

Next stop: one million squadrons*!

Cheers!

Fergus (voidstate)

*at the current rate of 5000 per week, that should be sometime in mid-2018...

Congrats :)

If FFG keeps.doing a good job of churning out new ships/pilots/upgrades then I could see the 5k average lists per week going up.

Over half a million lists is most impressive.

If you'd let people log on with something other than Facebook you'd probably have your million by now...

:P

Seriously, congrats. I've coded for a living and can well imagine the amount of work you've had to put into what is an excellent piece of kit.

Very impressive, especially given that you by no means have the market cornered and still have hit such a high number.

Makes me wonder how many of those lists get played and how many are idle noodling around.

Woohoo! My favorite squad builder!

I think every list I've made there has been played at least once.

Congratulations chief! Your builder is one of my favourite ways to waste my down time at work!

Here Here!!

again most lists have been played on my login

again the facebook login is a bit crappy (from wok) but i print then load at home to track stuff.

Congrats! I love your builder! Simple and effective!

Bravo! You deserve a standing ovation!

This is a milestone ! Congratulation ! :)

Your builder is the absolute best. :)

Congratulations! Love the tool, use it all the time.

I'm still getting that bug though were My Collection has a bunch of Astromech upgrades listed in it, and they won't go away. I get rid of them, save my collection, and next time I load it up they're back again.

I know the feeling there. When I started building Aurora I never actually planned to release it (figured it'd get rejected, partly because of the fact that there's a buncha builders on android but none on iOS), I just wanted a squad builder I could use on my phone myself. Got it to a decent usable state and figured it didn't hurt to try submitting it, so I went for it. Nowhere near half a million squads saved yet though :P. Sadly, I have no way (yet) to track saved apps since they're just saved locally (or synced to personal dropbox).

Grats on hitting half a million! Yours was the builder I always used until I built my own :P (and still the one I pull up if I'm on the computer and wanna check stats on a ship or upgrade or something real quick)

MAJOR PROPS!

Have to say, it's easily my favorite squad builder.

I have to wonder if it isn't half the reason X-Wing IS as popular as it is - having a squad builder always up-to-date with the latest stuff lets you tinker with things pretty much on announcement, see how they fit into the rest of your list...

I dunno about everyone else, but this builder is a pretty big part of what gets me actually excited about the new wave teasers - making it easy to see how they can be used in lists!

You know Facebook doesn't LITERALLY steal your soul, right? You can set up a shell account just for ease-of-authentication on this site, as well as...ohh, the MILLION other places on the internet you can easily connect to with it. And then use it to join your local X-Wing community for knowing when they are going to have events and such. And nothing else. That's totally okay to do. Painless, even!

I know Tristan - I'll pass your message along.

Congratulations!

And thank you for making an excellent squad building UI .. This is by far my favorite one to use.

Thanks. And don't forget to give him the (virtual) champagne! :D

This is the first site I've ever used that has required Facebook.

big thank you for this pillar of x-wing usability, superb integration with cryodex.

We recently had a mixed faction tournament, but it was impossible to design a squad with 2 factions. Is it a great challenge to add "unrestrained" squad building? Is is prevented by the XWS format?
