Can Pilots fly different ships?

Example: can Poe fly a classic X-Wing?

Can a tie pilot fly a TIE/FO ship? Or a TIE Advanced Ship?

No, the pilot card has both the pilot and the type of ship they are flying.

There are some pilots who appear in multiple ships. Hera Syndulla, for instance, can be a Ghost pilot or a Phantom Attack Shuttle pilot.

While that may be true from a gameplay perspective, from a lore perspective it would still be nice to get Corran and Tycho into X-wings where they belong.

I would love to have separated pilot and ship cards...

I'm okay with having separate pilot cards for each ship.

For one it assists with balancing. (on the rare occasions that they have released the same pilot for multiple ships they have the option to tweak abilities and points cost on a per-ship basis.)

Also when they release a pilot card they don't have to plan around potential future ship releases that they may or may not know about - if they want an existing pilot to fly a new ship, they just make a new pilot card.

So I think the current pilot card system is probably the best one they could be using... I just wish they would do more versions of the popular characters... Flying the ships that we expect them to be flying.

(I would go straight out and buy another T65 if it would have Tycho and Corran pilot cards in there)

There is a reason that Star Wars Attack Wing is a game with horrible combinations of Captain (Pilot) and ship. Balancing would go out the window if you take the pilot away from the ship.

If you think it would be easier to balance that combination ... I really, honestly, have no words to express my feels right now.

And pilots could have had restrictions like Corran [E-wing and X-wing only] or something like Han [YT-1300 and Lamda Shuttles only]. It would have opened design space, which is something the game currently could use a bit more of (as I see it). EPts could have been linked to pilots specifically, and maybe even other symbols.

Yes, it is all very STAW, but if I had to take anything from STAW it would be separate cards for ships & pilots... and having a 6 straight, and 4 bank maneuvers (again, those add to the design space).
Oh, and secondary weapons that only disable.

Aside from those things... there is so much bad in STAW that it sometimes it is not funny (and sometimes it is too funny).

if you could limit the pilots e.g "pilot x my fly rebel small only" etc it could be interesting. and poes first fighter was his mothers old A wing so I could imagine such combinations as a possibility
