Force Heal Question

By ninjahX, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Force heal states "only lightsiders may use this" my question is simple does that mean you have to be an actual lightsider (morality 70+) or just not a darksider (morality 30-69) We've had arguments about the whole black and white thing in which you're either one or the other not in between.

Thanks in advance

RAW; a player who uses darkside pips instead of lightside pips are consider Darksiders (e.g. sub 30 morality). Players that are 30+ morality are consider lightsiders. As such and player with a morality of 30+ can use it.

EDIT: I. WRITE. GOOD.

I would say just not dark side would be enough, really.

Having said that, the rule doesn't make sense to me. A selfish, full of himself Sith should totally be healing himself to stay healthy and young.

Darkside characters can heal by using harm on other people.

I can get into that, sure, but why wouldn't a dark sider want to just heal? A lonesome darkside Force witch who has been living a hermit's life can be a thing.

A hermit dark side witch would kill animals with harm and use the stolen lifeforce to heal him or herself.

A character can be higher than 30 morality and still be a dark side force user. Once one has fallen below 30, they need to climb back above 70 to once again be considered a light side force user.

In answer to your question, as long as you have to spend a destiny point to use dark side force pips, you are considered a light side user.

Oh, he would absolutely want to, but he doesn't possess the balance and inner serenity to do so. This is one of the few areas where Darksiders are at a genuine disadvantage, and I think it fits pretty thematically.

Love the idea of a force witch hermit performing ritualistic style 'force magick' animal sacrifice to prolong her life... yoink! :D

Heck, I'd swear I remember Vader trying to heal himself like this, attempting to breathe without his respirator but being unable to maintain the needed serenity. Must've been in one of the novelizations or maybe SotE.

I think you're right, seem to remember that scene in Shadows of The Empire. Not sure if it was healing or just Vader testing himself...

In the full description, it is stated under the Harm portion that a Darksider can heal another, but that other must be engaged with the Darksider, and they still must Harm a target to provide the healing. Just saying, caught me off guard when a player read it this past weekend.

Because the Darksider uses the Force in a selfish way. It's a tool to enact his will on the galaxy, and to hell with anyone else. It's a tool to cast his enemies down, and make them bow before him, to break their minds, and make them his slaves. That kind of mindset isn't conducive to using the Force for beneficial uses, even if that's pointed at himself. To tap into the Force to heal someone (usually someone else, but yourself too), you have to be willing to try and heal/restore with the Force. Darksiders just don't operate in that mindset when it comes to the Force.

Now they can totally understand the "I drain your life from you to feed my own! mmmuahahaha!" kind of action, because again, that is causing harm to another, and reinforcing your dominance over someone else.

Yeah, it was in Shadows of the Empire, and it was Vader trying to maintain a certain degree of anger so that he could heal his wounds enough to no longer need the armor. Problem he kept running into was the inability to remain properly furious and not succumb to the brief joy that his injuries were healing. Was an interesting scene, since it also served to foreshadow* that Vader was not wholly a creature of the dark side.

*bearing in mind this book came out long after Return of the Jedi had been released.

Well, if it came out after Empire, I think it's safe to say we saw at least some humanity in Vader in that. In how he dealt with Luke in Cloud City, how he basically pursuaded the Emperor to not kill Luke, and instead let him try and convert him. Knowing that he is his father, it isn't too big of a stretch (for me anyway), to say that desire to turn Luke, was a bit of paternal protection kicking in. That and his "don't make me destroy you!" line. He clearly didn't want to kill Luke. So yeah, showing glimmers of a human inside that armor in SotE seems reasonable to me.

iirc the ot novelisation has vader trying to heal himself constantly in his meditation chamber, he kept failing, but he kept trying to use the darkside to heal himself.
