You Look Like A Nail's Painted Spaceships Emporium

By You Look Like A Nail, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

I wonder the same thing. Something to think about.

How many Falcons are sufficient? Not one, I can tell you that.

First up, A-Wing number 3. I call him "Wingtips".

There's just an acre of you fellas, isn't there?

Second, Defender #3.

Gotta love that gold Defender.

I can now field Vader/Ryad/Palpshuttle in all gold. I didn't initially plan it that way but here we are.

This guy is a mostly stock YV-666, with additional parts from an A-10 toy, a Klingon starship model kit, a PzKfw-III, various bits from the bits box and some brown stuff putty. Eclectic!

That's really great! I love the oxidized copper look. I've been contemplating using such a look myself, but I was unsure if it'd look any good. But if I can paint it half as well as you did, it'll look great. Bravo!

I really like the A10 engines on the wings. It's makes it feel less like a book.

Picked up a second Hawk for my Rebel fleet, since the first one was for the Scum. Really happy with how this one turned out.

Scum and Rebels.

I love the YV-666 mod. Really gives it a unique profile.

Okay, so, ARC-170. I don't like it.

Visually, it's not a boring design, but falls short of being interesting to paint in the way that the HWK or Falcon or Jumpmaster is. Having finished it, I don't really feel like I need to pick up another and take another run at it. There isn't a lot more to do there.

In game, it has enough going on with the title that it feels like it'd work best as a generic, but of course there aren't any, so you have to pick a named pilot and try to get their ability to work, and add more stuff elsewhere to synergize with it. This all becomes awkward and unwieldy at the 150 points at which I typically like to play; I keep finding myself forgetting to leverage its abilities, and then it ends up eating a bunch of damage and perishing ingominiously, having contributed little.

It could just be me, but this guy just isn't working for me.

The colour scheme is the same jade-green that I used with my B-Wings, because I have enough stuff in X-Wing blue (T-65, T-70, pretty soon an E-Wing).

Re: ARC

If you're looking for a build that doesn't tax your brain to maximise the title, then I think the Braylen stress-bot combo might be for you!

That's the one I'm going to try next. Thanks!

Not a repaint, but a minor and simple mod which I've found pretty helpful and wanted to share. This may have been done by others and posted here, but if so, I missed it.

In an attempt to help with the Ghost's wobbliness, I added some magnets to the two supporting pylons on the base, and put in matching magnets into the Ghost's hull.

HurN0tk.jpg

This actually does a pretty good job of making it more solid on the base, without requiring a ton of extra effort or compromising the ability to separate the base, tripod and ship for transport. (I kinda botched the starboard magnet hole a bit but I'll fill that in with putty before I paint it.)

I've been wanting to do that to my VCX too! I really don't enjoy the tripod as it is (the peg snapped off in the ship the first night I played it--I wasn't even rough with it!). My main issue is that shipping on magnets costs more than the magnets! Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but do you buy your magnets locally, or online? and from where?

I'm in Canada and I bought all my magnets from miniwargaming.com a while ago. I believe they still sell them. I have a good supply of different sizes on hand so it wasn't a hassle to grab four and get this sorted.

Three ought to be enough, right?

Errrr, No...

I was afraid of that.

The first word is essentially irrelevant - the answer is always "No".

;)

PS - especially(!) when someone paints them as well as you do!!

Some more rebels. First up, the much maligned E-Wing. Looks a lot better with a proper astromech slot instead of the incredibly silly over-the-canopy gun.

Next, a U-Wing, which I haven't gotten onto the table yet (been playing and painting other things lately). This guy is only a partial repaint because the stock model is basically in my colours anyway.

Love it!

Quadjumper. I had a pretty clear idea for this guy: something that dropped out of the guts of a Martian grease factory. Mission accomplished.

Suh-weeet!

I really like the Quadjumper's looks and it's such a nice "canvas". I have two and am considering getting two more.

I just wish I could fly it better.
