Positive Prize Support stories

By dukewolf, in X-Wing

With all the angst about the prize support in SoCal this weekend, I thought it appropriate to start a thread to let people share about a store that offered amazing prize support. We are very quick to criticize and not near quick enough to praise. Please just positive prize support stories here. No bringing this down. Also, Please indicate the city and name of the store so these amazing stores can get the attention of FFG for future events. I will start us off.

The main store I visit in Phoenix AZ, has had several tournaments with amazing prize support. Imperial Outpost Games just does a great job in my opinion. This year for store champs, they gave away, A Custom painted Raider and accompanying Tie Advanced. A Custom painted Ghost and accompanying Phantom. A Remote control BB-8 and very large Special Forces Tie fighter model (I think it stands around 3 feet tall). The raider and Ghost were for places 1 and 2 respectively, but the others were door prizes. And this was on top of the standard FFG kit. I know for other tournaments he has given away light sabers, Lego Star Wars ship kits, Collectible figures from SWtOR, and others things I cant even remember. All this and providing a great place for us to play our game in a very comfortable environment. Thanks IO for running a great store.

So lets hear from the rest of you. I know there are great stores in other parts of the country that treat us like gold. I want to know where they are. And I hope FFG wants to know as well.

Miniature Market in St. Louis holds a 3-4 round tournament every couple of months. 5$ entry fee, usually 4-5 models (small and large) given away, plus some store credit and effectively all you can eat pizza lunch.

At the brothers Grim Regionals in Selden, NY

Some of the Prizes included:

an Imperial Raider complete with Added LEDs on the inside and on the engines (it might have been repainted as well)

Rebel Veterans Repainted.

Jango Fett Repainted Slave one

A Medal and (something else) for First blood (first person to kill a ship)

A Pet Rock (repainted obvi) for the first person to fly over a rock and have the ship die.

Various Door Prizes...

As well as others im probably missin (plus the auto-included regional Supported Goodies)

This years Regional at Get Your Fun On in Melbourne, FL had Store Credit prizes for top 8, commemorative set of range 1-3 rulers for top 4 (cuz who needs more challenge coins), and 6 other sets that were raffled. Other prizes included 3 dial sets, one of each faction, and a custom mat that went to last place as a token of appreciation for playing out the swiss rounds even after having a tough day.

As the League Manager I offered my assistance to ensure it turned out to be a great event. If we get the next Regional we will be stepping it up, perhaps also doing a paint/mod competition, showcasing some of the great mods we got to see, we have a very talented group of painters in Florida!

At the RIW Hobbies Store Championship in Livonia, MI

25 players @ $5

Some of the prizes included:

IG-2000

TIE Punisher

TIE FO

K Wing

Khiraxz Fighter

3 FFG Acrylic Seismic Tokens

1 set of 5 FFG Acrylic Ions (original)

1 2015 Regionals Alt Art Boba Fett

1 Alt Art Soontir Fel

1 Millennium Falcon Card Box

~20 Alt Art Generics

Past Times, Niles, IL (Chicago Suburb)

The husband/wife team who runs their events are absolutely bangorang. They never fail to have the high bar in prize support and their events are always enjoyable. If I weren't at work I'd go into much greater detail but RON and ANDREA deserve every prop and kudo that can be given.

This is good to know. I'm moving to Tucson soon and imagine I'll find my way up to Phoenix for a tournament or two now and then.

Our store has given away raiders and corvettes in the past and the top players usually take in a good chunk of store credit.

Welcome to Tucson!!!!!

EDIT: That's where I'm at, in case you didn't get that. One piece of advice: if you can get a place closer to Broadway, you'll be better off, gaming-wise, because that's where all of our game stores are. I'm up North and the game store up here has opened and closed at least twice.

EDIT 2: My brother got a Rebel Corvette epic ship as a "good sportsmaship" prize at one of the events he attended. That floored me!

Uncles Games Tacoma Washington location hosted their first X-wing store championship this year.

I helped TO and the store manager told me he wanted to give all the proceeds back to the players in prize support.

It was a small store so there was limited room for player participation ($10.00 entry fee), but the store had me pick out as many ships and goodies as the entry fees could support and give them all back to players (not just top 4) as prizes at the end.

Thought that was very kind to the player base and seemed like a great experience for all.

$10 and first place at a small tournament at my FLGS just won me a dice bag, alt art Gunner and Veteran Instincts cards, acrylic Cloak token and Ion tokens, alt art Vader card, and a challenge coin. No complaints! :D

Events at the FFGC typically get lots of extra prizes. One or two copies of alt-art cards just for not dropping. Random drawings for tokens, dice, etc. It's an apples and oranges comparison though.

Store kit tournaments at At Ease Games in San Diego usually run $10 with a few ships given out, and $20-50 store credit for the top players (and sometimes the bottom player as well). The exact amounts tend to vary based on the number of players but it seems like most of what is collected in entry fees makes its way into the prize pool.

Gamesville in Gainesville, FL had a friendly tournament on Saturday. My first game ever of X-Wing was there, and it was a modified win!! I ended up with alt Poe, alt Veteran Instincts, and some acrylic ion tokens.

Tuesday nights are their quasi-dedicated casual Star Wars nights, and I will see if I can make it to an Imperial Assault game in a little bit.

Really any place that gives all the money back in prize support has my vote!

I love Miniature Market's tournaments. If nothing else it's a cheap lunch, and you get to play some top notch players!

That's kind of how I look at it. $5 for lunch is not terrible (if a little high for pizza), but throw in 3 games of X-wing (usually some pretty diverse lists) and a shot at some giveaways and it's hard to find a better hobby-related way to spend $5 and an afternoon.

A third vote for the MM tourneys .. although sadly can not go to next one (working)..

Not surprising at all. He's a friend of mine and one helluva guy! We were sad to see him leave Spokane, but fortunately he lives near my in-laws, so I still get to play games with him and his wife from time to time.

While I'm not a store, I like to share extra copies of promos with the people I play with who weren't fortunate enough to win stuff of their own. I ended up with 6 of those Falcon dice bags, so now everyone who frequently plays at my FLGS has those. Plus, I gave a guy a Vader promo when he was having a rough day because he was heartbroken when he didn't place high enough for one, and I had three.

Trophies don't mean anything to me. I'd rather make people smile :D

The stele open had pretty rad swag.

Wow I'm insanely jealous of all these posts!

Pretty much all the tourneys I've done have only offered prizes from the included kit. So unless you place high you're probably only getting the alt art card.

Never been to any that gave away ships. Been to one that did store credit but only for top two.

Imperial Outpost Games in Phoenix is renound for their quality events and top-notch prize support. I might be biased as I've known the store owner for ~20 years but it's still worth +1'ing what others have already said.

I wish I didn't live so far from them nowadays...

At any rate - thanks to the OP for creating this thread - it's awesome to see postings about stores that go above and beyond.

The Raider went to first place, the rest were given out as door prizes (along with 6 sets of custom painted lava-rock asteroids).

Loved that Jango paintjob!

The first person killed was the same guy that got Boomer (the 'pet rock' who wants to be an asteroid when it grows up, as it said on his box :P ) - the guy who actually got First Blood got a medal and an alt-art (forgot which, but he gave the card to his victim, classy move IMHO). Too bad they didn't give out a prize for the first person to fly off the board, because I did it in the first movement phase!
