Drasnighta's Wet Work

DSCF5702.jpg DSCF5703.jpg and(To show its Proof of Concept, its not actually glued in place, and it slips its station at the very end:)Video: http://vid604.photobucket.com/albums/tt130/drasnighta/DSCF5704.mp4 So as a proof of concept: Totally Complete. Lambda with a Folding Wing that can be applied to both sides.... I couldn't find my nice tools, so it is very, very rough, and very quickly done, using only a set of clippers, a hobby knife and a standard GW Pin Vice Drill.I would suggest to anyone looking to approach this, to use a drill bit smaller than the standard GW pin vice - it will work, but there is ZERO margin for error (the plastic gap around the rotator is virtually non-existant)... And a jewellers saw and set of files would allow you to trim and neaten the cuts required FAR nicer than me having to push-through with a Hobby Knife......... But still. Proof of concept. Moveable Lambda.Someone let him know Game-Un-Ruined. :D

Now you're just showing off hahaha. That's amazing.

Haha, well done. Game is officially un-ruined.

Vindication! :D

So, I have to get a bunch of squadrons fairly quickly painted for this weekend....

... and I dug out my old Webcam. So I might do some :How to paint Quickly: guides for people... They won't be great quality, I only have a basic webcam - but I'll see what I can do and link 'em to the old 'tubes....

... Just while I have some quiet time in the middle of the day while my kiddo's at School...

Still no go on video. Which is a shame, because this would have been perfect.

Bunch 'o' bandits

Currently at about 50% WIP.

Funny, I too am working on z95s...

Aside from an ocd strike that had me just reshade and highlighting my mc80 again.

Are you ok Dras? Shocked to find this on the second page!

I need some advice. It turns out I am a glitton for punishment and have been painting my imp ships with two different primer coats.

First in all the recesses and some highlights; white primer, orange base, purple highlights and sepia wash.

Then on the flat; dark grey/blue combined base/primer, blue drybrush and nuln oil wash.

Now whilst I am willing to go through this for the ships, i am not doing that for squadrons. Any ideas how best to do extreme two tone on squads? Considering just painting orange highlights carefully and leaving the base colour unchanged. Seems lazy and a bad idea.

Short answer to the first question. No.

Onto the second though, as it is most pertinent...

On Squads, things are just smaller, and thus, less detailed overall... You can either hit with a Neutral-ish colour, and then paint on the areas you need - Or do what you need for your Darker Basetone, and find something to brighten your oranges as you go.

Are you able to hit me (either here or PM) with a quick pic of what you;ve got already, so I can really grab an idea of what you're after ?

This is the tester vic. The actual grey tone for the rest is a bit lighter so its easy to add contrast for panels etc but you get the idea.

Doing the flat panels on the ships is tomorrows job. Orange all done. Whoever designed those recess's on the glad and arquiten needs shooting.

I look at that, and my head goes "Ceremite White will be your friend".

The idea being you can basically paint your Squaddies in the Dark Basecoat. Anywhere you want Orange Highlights, you paint in that, then paint the Orange over that...

The reason basically being, most Oranges are stupidly transparent, so putting them on a dark basecoat mutes them right down...

But Ceremite White (From GW) is Super-Super-Super Opaque, so it always stays bright white - its olike putting white Primer over a Black Primer, getting bright white, but you do it straight out of the Pot (with a little water down, of course, to help it flow)....

Allowing you to Bright Orange over the top...

Otherwise, my suggestion is a Neutral Basecoat - a Light to Medium Grey, not too light, not too dark - then painting on both the darker blue/blacks and the brighter Oranges, and then SUPER-washing the Darker Colours in their Wash, to really Tamp their Colour Down.... Perhaps even adding a little Nuln Oil TO your Base colour to darken it a smidge - something to experiment with, anyway.

Ah reverse order it and then I can put minimal effort into the darker base colour concentrating on the orange pops.

Makes sense and not quite so daunting.

Going to need to be careful with both the white and orange. Though as you say, mainly the white as the orange will disappear on the dark.

Yep. Thankfully, on Fighters, it shouldn't be too much of a worry... It totally sucks trying to do the Orange Freehand on say, a Ship, to keep the Straight Lines..... But on a Squadron you're helped by the Arms-Length Tabletop View point - things don't have to be perfectly straight :D

Yup. Have been doing the orange first on the ships as its in most of the recesses so I am very messy. Fortunately the ship mould means its easy to get the threshold clean with the darker colour just by brushing in the right direction.

I blame Poe for this. I liked his xwing too much.

Yep, I salute your process for the Ships so far - its the right call to make in that order.

Alberta...

Texas for this one, atually.

Don't look at me. I don't understand any of the weird-ass sports that get played on this continent.

One word... cricket (although the beer break does give it a few more points than most domestic sports).

One word doesn't describe it anywhere near enough, though....

Test, One-Day, or T20 ?

Any :P

I'm Alive.

Its been... Real rough here. Painting has been low priority, and there's been few actual orders... But painting is done.

One Off "Ghost" and "Lambda Shuttle" for a certian competition:

I went a lot Grittier than usual on the Ghost... Went by some of the drawn shots (rather than animated ones) given out by Disney in the early launch time of Rebels, as a reference..... I really wish I could replicate the TIE Kill Markings, but its just not in a position where it matters for the Size :D

And of course, the Lambda being fairly Generic Imperial Warmachine:
