Yep. I'm in commission lull until the Wave 5s roll in

Still hate SuperMacro:
You probably hate macro, as I'll tell you a secret. You don't want to shoot painting in macro. Macro is a rather nebulous term, but a 'macro' lens has magnification 1:1 at minimum focal distance (and will taper off rather quickly). What magnification 1 means is the image rendered on the sensor, is the same size in real life, mm to mm. This ofcourse leads to incredible amounts of detail when you factor in pixel density, and really, when you are looking at painting of any type, extreme levels of detail/sharpness are not actually desirable.
Now if you take a few steps back, you won't be shooting 'macro' anymore regardless, don't care what 'mode' your camera is in, as all a macro mode typically is not focus to infinity (push close focus), and probably 'open the aperture wide' to create a shallow depth of field (if it has a true aperture).
So really, if you actually want control of your image, and good depth of field, unless you are actually driving the whole camera, you probably don't want to be using a 'macro' mode. If you are able to set your aperture, and shutter to expose accordingly without a high sensitivity (see ISO, see noisemaker
) then carry on. For reference, with the 100mm/2.8 'macro' lens I have around, the short distance to subject, and the comparatively large size of the models, I stop down to minimum aperture (1/32f) from at least 1m from the subject. for something like an ISD, 2-3m are required to even frame it, and DoF still can't really capture the whole ship.
Please ignore the above if it is all gobble=de=****, because it is just gobble-de-****
I dig the cloak effect
I hate it, because I deliberately set it to see all of the Flaws, if that makes sense. Its not exactly a "professional" shoot, its very much me going, "Let's pick out all of the absolute crap you've done and are passing off as awesome."
So its an instance of masochism.

I get you, I could get a kit 50mm lens, or even a 50/1.4 for like 100$, instead I slap the 100mm/2.8L ontop a freaking 22MP crop sensor and light the world on fire with every slight deviation in the line. when I can't see the deviations on that, we're good.
Brain:
"I don't know if I should paint the rest of my fleet by Saturday... I mean, its already painted okay, even if its in the old purple scheme... And its a lot of Ys and Xs... I just don't know..."
Hands:
:LISTEN< WHILE YOU WERE WASTING TIME THINKING ABOUT CRAP WE WERE DOING ****. GET ON IT YA BASTARD.
Brain:
****.
Am tempted to repaint my first Squadrons, but the ball-ache is real!
What is this green stuff that everyone talks about to strip their models? Is it available in the UK?
Simple Green.
Not only is it availabel in the UK, it
originated
in the UK...
There's a thousand variations. I get the one (in semi-bulk) that's used for Pressure-Washers and Cleaning Concrete... Soak in Undiluted Mixture, Scrub with Toothrbush...
Will remove most enamels and almost all Acrylics, but the Bake-On FFG stuff will remain 90% of the time.
Great, thanks Dras. Have some Defenders to overcome first though...
that's good news Dras, I didn't know I could get it here in the UK, only ever saw it on the shelves when I lived in Canada.
Persil Powerspray will strip plastics over here in the uk
Have black cleanups to do, they ended a little dusty - but getting there
Those Defenders look crisp mate. They are the only models I have not at least even base coated yet. I'm too scared...
They're super-easy to paint. Just so time consuming ...
Initial basecoat for them was 12 minutes a model for me... Doesn't sound like much, but that's almost double the time of the next longest imperial, the TIE Interceptor...

Yeah, I was actually surprised in the end how easy they were to get done (I was dreading them!)
I love the nod to the x-wing game series with the two little blue dots + 4 green
Indeed, even a cantankerous old bastard like me is capable of sentiment... From time to time...
Aaah c'mon, you done got that one on the bag, mate
Nicely done on the defenders, and I rather like the callback to my childhood favourite too. The cloaking phantoms looks great and the royal Defender countess (baroness.... can't recall), looks dun good. Great work, mate.
Also, in regards to the Thread that was:
What killed this game for me was the lambda. It's wings don't move.
What killed this game for me was the lambda. It's wings don't move.
Challenge Accepted
Stage one Complete:
The wings can be removed without damaging them. This was stage 1.
Stage 2 is a matter of doing it again to a different model, and then making the Hinge system. But that will await on me finding a fresh pin vice, and my jewelers saw.
Can't find my Pure White.
Once I do, the Lambda will get edge highlight, at the very least.......

DUUUUDE C'MON! After trying a SW: Rebellion stormtrooper AND knowing you painted an entire set AND seeing this, you are certifiably insane!

It is currently 11am, and my boy is in the bath before going to his afternoon speech school.
He will be there from Midday to 4.
I will endeavour to have 2.0 done for at least one wing by the time he is home.
Expect pictures within 6 hours at the worst.

So as a proof of concept: Totally Complete. Lambda with a Folding Wing that can be applied to both sides....
I couldn't find my nice tools, so it is very, very rough, and very quickly done, using only a set of clippers, a hobby knife and a standard GW Pin Vice Drill.
I would suggest to anyone looking to approach this, to use a drill bit smaller than the standard GW pin vice - it will work, but there is ZERO margin for error (the plastic gap around the rotator is virtually non-existant)... And a jewellers saw and set of files would allow you to trim and neaten the cuts required FAR nicer than me having to push-through with a Hobby Knife.........
But still.
Proof of concept.
Moveable Lambda.
Someone let him know Game-Un-Ruined.
Final touchups tomorrow... Got to get either some Titanium White or... Perhaps even some White Scar... To Edge those Shuttles.
