Drasnighta's Wet Work

By Drasnighta, in Star Wars: Armada Painting and Modification

If I could so inquire. What color progression are you using to bring up from black?

Without Incorporating the multiple mix-layers I did, the most straightforward version is simply

Mechanicus Standard Grey
->

Dawnstone
->

Administratum Grey

But I initially had a little black in the Mech Standard, and 30/60d a Mech/Dawn layer, as well as a 30/60 and 60/30 Dawn/Admin layers, as well as the pure applications thereof.

Very cool. Thank you for the answer. In an earlier post you mentioned your dry brushing looking a little dusty and mentioned using a glaze to bring it back in line. This got me curious on what you use to make a glaze.

I'd be particularly interested in that trick if your willing to share. I recently was working on a model where my dry bushing ended up looking chalkier then I'm use to. So anything that could help smooth that out in the future would be great.

That said, I'm just curious about a grey glaze. :)

Acrylic Medium, for the most part.

Either a Pot of Lahmian Medium from GW, or something bulkier and cheaper from an Art Store...

Take the Grey Colours you've used, mix 'em right down so that they're quite transparent.

Bingo, Glaze in just about any colour you want........

Now, actually applying said glaze in a meaningful manner is something that I am still experimenting with, 10 years after the Fact :D But the whole point of a glaze is to take the tones underneath it and even it out when its applied over the top... So finding the right mix of light-to-dark will take experimentation - but, if for example, its a little darker than your topcoat, it should even down the highest edges - or at least, help tone back some of the chalkiness that isn't on actual edges so the edges are still highlighted.

Giant Boob Nipple Gun...

IN SUPER MACRO

Something, Something, Total Recall, Something, Something......

So yes... Still WIP.

Havnt done anything about the cannon itself yet... Still needs to be more than basic shaded and then have a highlight applied...

And Super-Macro pucks up every little bit of surface imperfection... Goddess Above and Below, that really hurts as a painter.... They look quite nice in the flesh...

... Memory card is toast... Well, the little clip that slides on the side to 'lock' the card came off, and was swallowed in the depths of the computer card reader...

So now my Memory card is Read Only. Great, I didn't lose pictures of my Son... Terrible, I can't take any more pictures for the time being... Urgh...

Expect massive updates when I can, since I'm still working away... I just can't afford a new card until this project is done... :(

A small piece of tape will fix that card right up.

A small piece of tape will fix that card right up.

Tried. Totally not thick enough.

I'm on to Milliput right now, seeing if that bulks it enough

ALRIGHT.

After a Generous Donation from a Friend (Thanks Scott!) I now have a 1gb memory card, and we're off again!

Planetary Shields... Bases need to be painted, and I need to touch up some of the Wash. THESE will be what I hate by the end of the Commission... Fiddly little bastards.

SPEEDERS. Maybe a little Orangey on the Orangey Red, but I kinda like it... plus, the heavy Drybrush makes 'em look nice and Hoth-frosty.

Y-Wings. These are the disappointment of the Pack... They use exactly the same 3D model as the Armada Ones. There are NO further details. In fact, underside, there is a section that SHOULD be squared, but its actually Rounded on one tip - That's where the Armada Peg went... So exactly the same 3D model. Just 33% bigger or so.

AREN'T THEY JUST THE CUTEST LITTLE TANTIVES?!

WIP - SSDs need more work - Running and Window Lights, etc... But its a good baseline to be working from now....

WIP - The Panel Work on all 3 Death Stars is identical... if a panel is Light Grey on one, its Light Grey on all 3 (assuming it exists on the 3rd... Otherwise, just the two. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN )

WIP - As a Contrast to the Y-Wings... The TIE Fighters have a nicer Cockpit, an expanded hatch area, and INTERNAL Wing Roots... Completely Different Models to the Armada ones...

That's some pretty good work, mate. Those Ties look great but the star for me is those snow speeders. Fantastic work! Hmmm, now I sorta want to pick up some Rebellion stuff for an Armada ground-based special mission sort of thing.

You could work something out. They are pegless, and end up being about Millennium Falcon sized...

I havn't painted 15mm in about 20 years....

But here's the WIP

Still have to white the helmets, and then I'll hit Faces and Hands witha Wash and a point highlight.... Then cloth with a wash and maybe a drybrush highlight... Its Arms and Pants mostly... Vest as well...

But after a head impact this morning, I'm on concussion watch and gping ot be slowed down...

Wow2, awesome job on the Rebellion minis Dras. You ar3 making me 2ant to paint mine.

Here's one Rebel Trooper much closer to completion....

Camera still dicky, but working things out.

Looks great! I like those TIES better. Also, don't bang your head on things and you won't get concussions. Hope you're all right or you make a speedy recovery at least hahaha.

I think at that scale, the detail you have is fine. /thumbs

My Head was Stationary.

The Old-school Wooden Toy Semi+Trailer wielded by the Toddler was not.

I remember that as well...................toddlers are pretty accurate with toys. Somehow being about groin level is a nice target for them.........................And when you are toddler size certain body areas are prime targets..................Mistake I made was with a regular sized hockey stick and a giggling little boy going at warp speed chasing our male cat Ash. Little guy was trying to slap shot poor Ash when I came out of the kitchen and ran into the two of them............I am pretty sure you get the idea............and so did I.............painfully.

IT BEGINS

In my defense, here's a candid "in game" shot of what they look like straight out of the Box.

Consequently, you can also see the kind of... issues... you have to deal with with the AT-STs, AT-ATs and Speeders at the same time.....

What do you use to get that fine detail on your models? I can't seem to find a paint brush small enough to use without it getting paint on another spot I didn't want it to get on.

I've shown the pic before, but I'll share it again :)

As of this date, the bottom most S Layer and the Artificer layer have both gone unused.

I'm still using the Yellow-Ended "Fine Detail Brush" for most of my work, although its starting to leave hairs now, so it'll have to be replaced soon...

90% of my time, I'm using the Standard Sized Brushes. Its all about the Point.

And unfortunately, all of my points are dying now, because I can't look after my brushes the way I used to with a Toddler around...

Probably should've went through the tread and looked for this, but then again I probably should'nt be on here either since I'm at work lol

Hmm I'll have to keep an eye out for those been a while since I went to my FLGS so I'll have to see if they have one now that I know what I'm looking for. Also thank you for sharing this...again
