Drasnighta's Wet Work
I was so sad when I was perusing ebay to see those beautiful ships for sale. Still think that is some wonderful work Dras, sad he has to let them go.
Well, I mean, Reserve was met, so they're going *somewhere* in the next Day or so... I just hope they go somewhere they are appreciated... And consequently, where more work needs to be done
Haha! Tell the seller to include your business card when he ships the models!
Let's punt about with this a bit...
Also, going for a different colour than "usual." Yes, its in the red spectrum, but bringing it up through Pink to White, instead of through Orange and Yellow, will be interesting...
Progressions With and Without Flash:
SCREW YOU, HOTHGARY, I WILL WET BLEND IN YOU YET....
(As he realises that his drying retarder says to use no more than 5%, and he's slowly at close to 30% at this stage...)
Straight GW Ushabti Bone. Two Coats (Thinned)
Over Black.
Normally, its over Grey, but I mis-primed it, and din't really matter that much between Black and Grey.
The wash it gets is generally 50/50 Agrax with Water.
If I'm feeling kinda Orangey, its Seraphim Sepia instead. But always 50/50 with Water, because I don't want it too intense.
can I ask what you used for the firespray? it also looks so good.
Boba Fett isn't the most straightforward, because I'm always trying to match colour to the Movies....
But essentially...
He's primed Grey if I can, black if I have to...
The main Off-Green Grey main colour for him is Reapers "Mouldy Skin". Its part of their Undead Flesh line for Masters Series (Ghoul Skin - Mouldy Skin - Bloodless Skin), but the Masters are had to grab now - so you can substitute P3 Thrall Flesh, its almost an identical colour.
The Crimson Red portions are a P3 paint again - Sanguine Base. Very dark crimson red.
Greys are all Mechanicus Standard Grey.
And I used GW Caliban Green for the dark Green areas...
Once the basecoats are down, the Greys are washed with Nuln Oil, the Reds with Carroburg Crimson, and the Green with Athonian Camoshade. All are GW Washes.
Then the Black of the Canopy is just Re-Blacked. Given a highlight of 50/50 Mech Grey and Black, with a white Dot, and then a layer of Gloss Varnish.
Then, I get onto highlighting...
Highlight colour for Green-Grey is Bloodless Flesh, the actual highlight colour.
Mech Grey's highlight is Dawnstone (GW)
Sanguine Highlight is Sanguine Base's Highlight, of course (P3)
and Warpstone Glow (GW) is the Dark Green's Highlight...
If I have to, I 50/50 mix with the base colour to tie things in... But only when I'm not feeling lazy - that's well and all above the price point I charge for doing said thing... I'll make things almost Vykes level of pretty, but it'll cost you more than what I normally charge
If only I could fail as bad as you Dras
Wheres the view from inside the bridge?
If I could find my Fibre Optic Camera, I'd take one.
Alas, I could not... And Its been boxed up to send to the Client now.
So, instead of Breaking my Eyesight on painting Tiny X-Wings and TIE Fighters...
.. I'm going to be breaking my Eyesight on painting Tiny Stormtroopers...
... And rebel Troopers...
... and X-Wings and TIE Fighters ....
At least you get to paint an SSD, however small it may be...
And also, snapped this up...
My Painted Armada GR-75, vs a Rebellion GR75... The Size isn't drastically different (although it is a difference)... But the detail is... So much more lacking...
The X-Wing, however - Totally the opposite direction
Its hard to see in the Shot... But the Rebellion X-Wings Engine Intakes are split .

Star Destroyers! 8 of them! Coming up Fast!
These were fun, if quick... They'll go and sit on the wayside now until I'm ready to go back and do some Lighting... But they're 100% serviceable now.
What game are all these pieces from?

Holy Frak! I may have to buy this game just to get some more excellent reference pieces for my CG stuff.
Drybrush, Drybrush, Drybrush.
2 leftmost ATs don't have anything but the basecoat and wash done so far... So it shows some of the progress.
Still at least 3 more DB layers to go to lighten them to where I'll be happy... Then maybe a glaze to kill dustiness.
Somebody please tell me, how are you adding so much detail to fighters? It just seems impossible...
Tools and Techniques.
As you can see, I hardly have the best of tools... (The older ones are leftover from my time working for GW, which would put them at 4 years old)... The newer ones, well, you can see how hard done by they are... The bottom two still havn't been used yet.
So its just the techniques, and knowing the limitations of the media...
... And I'll be honest. I'm hardly one of the better painters here... (Lookin' at you, Vykes-y)... But I do show what the layperson can do with just a little practice.
Light balance is off a little, and I'm just too tired and stressed to correct it on the Camera... But its cool enough for a WIP anyway.
Got 2 more layers of DB on them, and they're looking pretty good now in comparison...
AT-STs got their Bases Re-Blacked (I think I'll do what limited Imperial bases there are Black, and what rebel Bases there are as White... Y'know, Juxtaposition and all...)
Gozantis got their Engine Glows too...
Started on Corvettes, GR-75s, Ion cannons and Shields... Trying a small variation of my usual Rebels on them... But those will come in time - possibly tomorrow.
I'm just all envious that you get to try out painting all that neat Rebellion stuff, mate
How the frig are their X-wings so much better than Armada's, but the GR75's worse? Gaaaah you tempt me with those tiny AT-ST! The ones in IA are a little, well, different.
You do good work, I can attest to that
And hey, you've now, guaranteed, worked on more ISD's than me, too!
