The 3 attack dice on the Attack shuttle feels... wrong

By Corellian Corvette, in X-Wing

The YT-2400 has huge honking guns that can't even elevate (what kind of turret...never mind) and yet is gifted with 2 red dice. Only with an upgrade do we see the game give this model its due. By rights it should be at least as powerful as the Decimator guns. Unless, of course, we are to believe that every 2400 is kitted out just like the Outrider.

And the Falcon's guns are so tiny...

Interceptors have 4 identical Wing guns and similar twin chin guns but, nope, only 3 dice. (That's also if you ignore the 4 hub mounted gun ports on the interceptor.)

Thats something that still bothers me. I want an option to increase the attack value of the interceptor to 4 and/or ad an Autoblaster which can shot after the primary attack.

Actually, Interceptors only have four laser cannons, not six. The "chin" guns are not actually active weapons.

The Interceptor with only the four wing cannons is a cheaper variant for extensive mass production

As far as I can tell there's at least two variants of the TIE Interceptor:

4 wing tip cannon variety

10 cannon DSII variety (4 wing tip, 4 wing hub, 2 chin) although we only see the chin and wing tip guns fire for sure.

There might be another with 4 tip guns plus chins. And this isn't even counting the ones with shields added or hyperdrives, or missiles (I like the experimental missile pods!) I suppose the cheapest variant would be the common Squint we see in the X-wing games.

So the guns between the wings are targeting sensors for the guns on the wingtips?

And if the chin guns don't do any shooting, then what do they do?

I think it's the size of the weapon. The phantoms guns are huge next to tie fighters. A 50 cal next to a 22 the weapons are about the same size. Damage a wee bit different. Lol. Attack dice doesn't mean amount of weapons. But damage potential.

Sabine has done a lot of work to a lot of systems over the years. She's good at making sure the Rebels can make things go boom.

Y'ever seen those guns fire?

I mean, they're the reason your VCX has an Auxiliary arc. Just think about that for a second.

Anyone else notice how some people will use any excuse possible to bash something they don't like?

I heard a rumor the Attack Shuttle had 4 attack for awhile in play testing.

Thought that might add a little to the discussion. :)

My one compaint, compare zeb with a hull upgrade to a rookie, same statline with extra ps, an ability, crew instead of a mech, a turret slot and repositioning. I'll take my glass cannony shuttle but get orery at it being better than my xs

Yeah, 'targetting sensors' that look just like the other gun barrels.

And the chin gun mounts are just there to look purdy, I guess. I could accept them being missile tubes though.

The freakin cannons are as big as the ship, that thing should have to perform a 1 reverse every time it shoots!

That would be a really interesting mechanic, especially if paired with a pilot ability which allowed it to take a free action (perhaps boost) after it has fired. Perhaps if we ever get that experimental tie which was just an interceptor with huge missile pods on the wings... can't you just imagine doing three point turns around the battlefield.

I could go for escort shuttles remotely piloting experimental TIEs (I particularly liked the one that was a turbolaser and a cockpit on either side of a single wing)! As for the turns, though, aren't missiles usually launched without recoil? And would laser cannons even produce any noticeable recoil for ships this size?

Expose, dah.

Or Kir Kanos. Or just range one!

True. I was just looking for justification/excuse for a potentially fun mechanic and the only one I could think of were those rocket ties.

Aaand note the faction they tend to play too. :P

Then go and watch Episode VI again.

Re-reading my stuff, you're right. There was an upgraded version that utilized both the chin guns and wing-tip cannons, and had a missile launcher installed. That's in addition to "commander" upgraded interceptors with shield generators and hyperdrives (for some reason my mind combined the upgraded and commander versions in one). Versatile little ship, one of my all-time favorites. But back to the subject, I think that even with the six cannon variant we would still see a 3-dice ship, the Defender has four laser cannons and two ion cannons and only gets a 3-dice attack.

In XWMG, when you're not equipping cannons of any sort, you're actually just putting deer whistlers like you might do on cars out in the country.

You gotta watch out for all those space deer, don'tcha know.
