Epic ship questions

By 1mikethebuilder1, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Is there a video tutorial for the proper playing of epic ships? There probably should be one if not.

Does a huge ship begin play with a full load of energy tokens allocated to all sections, weapons, etc, or does it have to accumulate them from the beginning?

Many thanks, more questions to come I'm sure. Just got the Raider and all I can say is the huge ship adds a whole lot more awesome to an already awesome game. My table is starting to look like the final battle scene at the end of Return of the Jedi. Woo hoo!

Per the Epic Tournament Rules, pg. 3:

'Players assign Energy tokens to each of their Huge ships and their equipped secondary weapons up to their respective energy limits.'

Upgrade cards other than secondary weapons don't get energy assigned at the start of the game.

Quick things that are different from dogfights

- six obstacles each on a 6x3 map, deploy two at a time, each pair of obstacles are range 1 from each other

- deploy epic ships first

- small/large ships move first in skill order, then epic ships move in skill order

- all ships shoot in skill order

- epic ships arrive to battle ready to go, all energy at full, to include weapons

I've played through a hand full of epic matches but I still keep the epic rules handy.

Question:

Docking Clamps says that you can dock four TIE fighters, TIE advanced, TIE interceptors, or TIE bombers. They must all be the same type if you do blah blah blah...

But does this mean TIE f/o's too? It makes sense since T-70's can equip Int. Astromech even though it says X-Wing only, Modification. Please help!

Yes, the rule on ship type names does mean you can dock TIE/FO Fighters to a ship with Docking Clamps. It still doesn't let you mix TIE/FO Fighters and TIE Fighters, though.

Okay, thank you.

Huge ship experts, please help with the following two rules confirmations.

1. Huge ship rules say "Focus, evade, and stress tokens do not affect huge ships. When a huge ship receives any of these tokens, immediately remove them and return them to token supply."

Does this mean that CR90 cannot use Esege's focus token when he is in range?

2. The latest FAQ says that for all attacks at range 3 and beyond, the defender receives only one additional defense die. Imperial Raider rulebook (released, but possibly not printed, after the latest FAQ) still has the old wording saying that at range 3 defender gets one, at range 4 two, and at range 5 three additional dice. Which of these is correct?

Thank you in advance!

Does this mean that CR90 cannot use Esege's focus token when he is in range?

If I remember correctly, it cannot. Focus tokens, like evade or stress simply have no effect on anything a Epic ship does.

2. The latest FAQ says

The latest FAQ always trumps other rules. But in this case the Raider book was wrong when it was released.

Whilst true abou focus tokens, the epic ship is never assigned the focus (he uses it from the k wing) and there is no restriction on spending tokens, only being assigned them. Ergo, the stupid tantive can use the stupid k-wings focus.

Stupid token sharing rebels breaking the game!

As much as I would want it to work, the rule saying "Focus, evade, and stress tokens do not affect huge ships..." makes me think that it doesn't work, unless we have anything from designers, clarifying it...

It certainly would work much better than Han crew.

Don't get too hung up on the fluffy first sentence. If they'd wanted to say "Huge ships cannot spend Focus tokens", they could have. The can't have them, which is very similar in most instances.

I mean, if we really start to think about "no effect", then does that mean a small ship can't spend a Focus token to modify its attack when attacking a Huge ship? Of course not.

Thanks, that other thread and message from desigber helps a lot!
