We had a situation arise that requires a direct answer. Darth Vader was charged by a Wookie warrior, and the wookie made his attack dealing 5pts of damage. Of course Vader being the defense monster he is only got 1pt of damage. Now this is the part we are having problems with, just because of the wording. He cleaves Vader for 2 additional pts. Now in other games which I won't name, cleave is an effect against other models adj to the attacker, but again the wording is the problem here. So in this situation can the wookie use the cleave on Vader if there are no other targets? Thanks!!!
Cleave
Cleave:
If the target of this figure’s attack suffers one or more H (damage), the attacker may choose a different hostile figure or object that he could target for an attack.

The Rules Reference Guide regularly gives direct answers.
Also don't forget the reference cards.
Edit: Did the Wookiee Warrior have 2 surges? (perhaps one from the green die, one from Fury)

He should have done +1 damage with the surge he rolled if nothing was adjacent to the wookiee figure. If it was 5 damaged, then he could have added an additional damage from Fury.

Fury: While attacking, if you have suffered 5 or more damage, add +1 surge to your attack results.
(Maybe you were thinking about Gaarkhan's class card Unstoppable?)

Nope, I am just blind! I stand corrected :-)
