This year, the Michigan GT will be hosting an X-Wing event! This is the first year that X-Wing will be presented, and my hope is that there is enough interest generated to keep it happening every year.
The Michigan GT is hosted in Lansing, MI, and this year will be Sep 30 to Oct 2. Presumably, online registration will begin around June 1st. Players can register online or at the event. Once the website goes live with this years information I will update this post with more information.
I have finalized the vents we will be running. As it is only me running this year (introductory year), I'm limited on all the events we will be doing, so thus only three events. My hope is that with enough support this year, we can begin to add a few more events and volunteers to help me out next year. Below is the information for the vents being run:
Friday Sep 30 - Escalation Tournament
- On site Registration at 4pm - Skids up at 5pm. Format will involve three rounds. 1st round at 60 points, 2nd round at 90 points, 3rd round at 120 points. 90 and 120 point round list must be built off of list from prior round.
Saturday Oct 1 - Standards Swiss Round Tournament
- On site Registration starts at 9am - skids up at 10am. This is the standard X-Wing tournament format. We will play anywhere from 4 to 6 rounds based on attendance, with a cut to top 8 or top 16 based on that attendance. Top 8/16 cut finals will be held on Sunday Oct 2nd.
Sunday Oct 2nd - Narrative and Swiss Cut Finals
- Top Swiss cut finals start at 10am
- On site Registration for Narrative starts at 10am, skids up at 11am.
Narrative info: Etahn’s Eviscerators. Etahn A’Baht’s miscreant band of mischief makers and rabble rousers take on other pirate factions for dominance of the pirate sector SGC-762. Which pirate faction will stand to rule them all?
Rules: 120 point list. All lists must include Etahn A’Baht, setup in any fashion you wish. The remainder of the list may include ships from any faction, but cannot include duplicate ships, unique pilots, or large base ships. Whoever scores the highest points after 3 to 4 rounds (based on attendance) is crowned sector champion! Exceptions: Y-Wings can take turrets, limited to 5pts, and must have the BTL-A4 upgrade attached. K-Wings are allowed but may not take an additional turret upgrade.
Who will dominate pirate sector SGC-762?!
There will be prize support included for all events.
The Michigan GT started as a Warhammer 40K convention about 4 years ago, and has grown since. This year there are a large number of games being supported, and X-Wing, with it's massive popularity and draw, was a shoein for game support. I'm looking forward to hopefully meeting new people, new faces, and fun and fresh attitudes this year. We have some terrific prize support for each event, including official FFG prize support in the form of OP kit prizes, and a lot of third party prize support. Once we have finalized all the prize support we will have available, the information will be made public on the website and I'll update this post.
Let's give X-Wing the rightful introduction it deserves in the Michigan GT this year, and join me for a weekend of fun.
I would like to give a shout out to the Steele Open this year. I was watching one of their twitch feeds from this years festivities and they mentioned that terrific idea for the pirate match. I decided to run something very similar to it, and I hope they aren't upset. Seeing as I'm the one running everything this year, I needed a little creativity help with the Narrative event, and I really liked the idea behind it.
I'd also like to say there will be some live Twitch streaming this year of the X-Wing festivities, as long as I can get it all managed to do so. One step at a time though.

The Michigan GT Welcomes X-Wing this year!
May have to check it out this year.
Ahhh, right in my back yard! I expect I will be there. Please keep us posted.
Out of curiosity, where do you normally play x-wing?

I normallu play in the southeast MI area. Pretty big community over here.
Next work day I'll check and see if it's open on the annual leave calendar.
Escalation has the 2 ship minimum rule, right?
And what does "GT" stand for?

GT stands for Gran Turismo or Grand Tourer when referring to cars, Grand Tournament in poker which I think is its usage here.
hey... there is a website! http://michigangt.com/
I wish this event was in the Winter. The fact I drive out to E.Lansing for 7 football games every fall makes it a real hard sell to head there for an 8th weekend!

I may try to get there, but it's a very busy time of year (between two big vacations).
Signups will be open around June 1st. Ill pist here when they are open.
Just over an hour away, hmmmm...

Holy Cr@p!
The prices for this event seem steep: $5-45 per event! PLUS a $10 basic entry fee?I? Ouch. So, $20-$35 to play X-wing?
I am used to regional wargames conventions (like SPARTACON or Battlefields/Pro or Con) only charging $10 at the door for three 4-hour sessions of whatever games I want to play (out of 20+ offered per session). Maybe it is the format (tournaments) with multiple rounds per event but it still seems pricey. Lansing area LGS usually charge $5-$10 to play and the top four usually win more than that in store credit, etc...
Even Origins, one of the premier gaming events in the nation... hell, the World... is only $65 at the door for FIVE days with events being an additional $2-$10. Now, Gencon seems to be similarly priced, so I guess you are not too far out of bounds... Just more than I am used to seeing for an event this size/scope.
I'm not trying to be critical and I'm not trying to discourage people from attending... far from it... I was just shocked, that's all.
Still... it could be fun and I am interested... just cannot commit this far out.
I wish you luck
I understand the concern.
Looking at other conventions, this is roughly the price you would pay for the same type of events on those days, and in many cases, cheaper. The prize support is going to be outstanding, far beyond the typical FFG stuff.
The size of this event is small right now, 48, but can be expanded as needed, up to around 128 players.
Please keep in mind we charge $10 for the whole weekend for a badge. After that it's pay per game. Gencon charges a lot more for that badge for 4 days (we are only 3), and I believe their games still cost to get into, anywhere from $5 to $50. I am not saying we are up to Gencon standards at this point (though I would certainly love to get there someday), but we all feel the rate is reasonable. We base the rate on square footage cost of rental at the facility, as that is what is charged to us.
We hope you will still consider us for a fun weekend of gaming. Give us a try.
P.S. - Chris, I kinda wished you would have expressed these concerns in a PM to me, as I was hoping to keep this to simply advertisement and expressed interest in the convention.
Thanks
Price seems fine to me. $45 for two events plus access to the convention. I even bought the dice. Can't wait!
Thanks skins! Appreciate the support!
Shouldn't this be on the organized events section?
I'll post it over there. Thanks Fuzzy

I didn't say that I wouldn't be there... I just said that I thought it was a bit pricey compared to what I am used to. In fact, I hope to make the event and will likely bring friends.
I do apologise for being unintentionally critical; I'm not normally that rude.
