Freaking Floaty Droids

By n0c73m, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

ok, so I am currently playing a Defel Bounty Hunter Assassin, with droid companion, and i am trying to find the equvalent of the DRK droids from the old D20 star wars system. Problem is i cant find one. then i saw the cover of Far Horizons and was overjoyed to see the little floaty droids that look just like my old friend DRK. however...... i cant find them in the book. the only floaty droid i can find is the DZ tracker doid which is 1.4 meters in size....WAY to big to be the droids on the cover. So.... WHAT ARE THEY!? lol

Just say they are floating via repulsor with a max height of a few meters or a few dozen meters. That is just equipment and repulsor tech is super common. So for repulsor belts or "parachutes", etc

If you want to go fast, and with fast I mean real fast there are still internalized jetpacks (like Chopper is using, EotE) or jumpboots (SotR) which seem to be used by R2-D2 for example.

Those DRK probe droids do not seem to be proper droids btw, they might be qualify more like a generic remote from SM. p. 53.

They have 1 in all characteristic and a group skill of perception. 400 credits, rarity 2, come as wheel or repulsor versions, add a comlink for convenience. Oh and they are silhoutte zero. If you have a decent mechanic and computer skills you might want to build your own improved variant of that to add some extra points for characteristics and skills, which is dealt with again in Special Modifications. Monotask chassis seems like a good choice for such a simple drone like droid.

Your expectations of the DRKs seems to be on par with the Recon Remote found in Dangerous Covenants pg 57. Small droids that are equipped to cruise around at a decent clip, monitor or search an area with their on board senors which include day/night packages, and several can be linked into a net and report any findings to a single receiver around a dozens miles away.

Sound right? DC doesn't have any specific stats, but you can probably generate some based on the remotes in SA if you need specific numbers.

One thing to remember is that Star Wars game designers have no idea how big a meter is. More than one small droid is statted as waay too big

This is a long running issue/joke. Plenty of stuff from the early days were converted to metric in the editing process, often being just replacing "ft" with "m." So yeah, there's a ton of stuff that should be like 30 ft long that's instead 30 m.
