When it comes to equipping your ship with new components during play, do ship points no longer have a relevance? During ship creation they directly reduce your Profit Factor on a 1:1 basis but I can't find any mention of them when it comes to acquiring new components.

Have I missed something?

They affect the acquisition roll to acquire new ones. Hulls are directly subtracted from the test, other components correspond to a table.
