Help me build a Force Using (not really) Droid...
Not got EotE yet. But gonna.
Can't give you advice then, but I think the idea of an eccentric droid believing he uses the Force is great.
Thanks! I'm not sure if this can be done, the more I read the rules in EOTE and FAD. Any way I can see for him to simulate the force, he would have to actively use deception - which would mean he is aware of not actually using the force. I'm trying to come up with some workarounds, but being new to the system I am not finding much.
As a part of this - say I want to simulate the MOVE force power tree. I could see it being done purely through tech, instead of using the force. But the problem is that such technology; while it certainly exists in the SW universe, isn't in the rulebooks. Tractor beams, repulsors, magnetic beams, etc. And if I were to try and craft such equipment, as a new player not super familiar with the rules... well, I don't think I would do a great job.
How game breaking would it be, to just spend the XP to buy the MOVE force power and upgrades, but not fuel it with the force? I would need some kind of limiting mechanism to balance stripping out the use of force points. But I don't know if figuring that out would be more or less difficult than fleshing out new equipment for the character.
We came up with the idea that a droid could have a lightsaber crystal inside of it. The would resonate with the force and give that droid force abilities. This could be accomplished storyline wise in that maybe the droid is an ancient experiment from Old Republic days, or a one of a kind model, Etc. You would have to figure out some kind of drawback for giving them this extra ability.
Possible drawbacks to this (choose 1-3 but not all)
1. They would have even more of a presence around force sensatives.
2. The amount of force abilities should be limited, or possibly doubled in XP cost.
3. Force rolls could be halved. That means until you get a force rating of 2, the majority of rolls would fail.
4. You could add a crit table roll that would damage the crystal, temporarily removing your force abilities.
5. Which abilities you get could be limited, things like sense emotion could be unavailable.
6. To raise the droid's force rating you would have to buy the skill in the skill tree and install a new crystal. This would be a daunting-formidable roll with a red die. A failure would break the new stone and you have to rebuy the skill and a new stone. Despair would render you unable to ever raise your force rating. Disadvantages could lock force abilities for X amount of time while your system is adjusting.
There is equipment like the magnetic tether which allows you to use powerful magnets that can be used to "force move" a weapon to your hand, some jedi used them to let them save using force powers to regain their weapon.
Do some research on cad bane who got a lot of his ideas from taking a bounty on a false jedi. There is a gun with a grappling hook attached for some other force trickery.
Some poisonous vapor in an attachment near your arm to "subdue" opponents, get close enough to fire off the noxious fumes by holding out your hand toward them and pretending its you and not the fumes doing the work. If there isnt a poison in the book it woukdbt be hard to make up.
There is a lot that can be done. Also deception isnt the skill you need here bexause you need to be know that you are lying in the first place , for example trying to say that a Gordulla the Hutt is a beautiful being is deception not charm unless you truly think she is.
Technically its under legends now, but have a look at the first bio section

Edited by syrathAwesome! That's all great stuff - but my problem is in figuring out how to make that kind of technology in this game. What stats do I give it, how much does it cost, etc.?

This is interesting - but I wasn't actually wanting this droid to use the force. Only to think he does (and make others think he does), while NOT actually having any force attunement. Maybe for another character, I would do this!

Ah, okay, then yeah, if you make a starting level character, you couldn't do everything that you want to do. If you talk to your GM you could have a lot of the "force approximating" items built into your droid. Look for the base cost of different items in the books and then roll mechanics checks each time to install them. I would say start at average or hard difficulty and upgrade the pool each time you want to add a trick. (2 purple for the first, 3 for the second, 5 for the 4th, 2 red and 3 purple for the 6th, etc).
You would have to refill things like gas or a grapple that gets destroyed. A lot of it would be things you would have to talk to the GM about.
Some ideas:
Grab lift to approximate move
Scanners to approximate sense, seek, forsee,
Nets, or rope for bind (grapple could double for this)
If you are dark side you can have a close range electrical shock for lightning
You could have mood generating gasses for influence
Holo projector for Misdirect
