If you are going to a casual tourney do you pick your list a head of time or bring a couple lists and see how competitive it looks like it's going to be? The reason I ask is because I have a fun list I want to play but I also don't like to lose every game. If I show up and the tourney is all U-boats and ghosts then I could play a more competitive list. I don't care if I win the tournament but I don't want to finish last.
Tournaments when do you choose your list
Regionals, a month out
store champs: week before or so
winter/spring.summer kit: the night before or in the car ride to the store
So glad I'm not concerned about a "tournament list".
Much easier to enjoy the game this way.
That said. I chose my list at the table immediately before playing lol.

As someone who is notoriously indecisive I flip flop over lists until I get to the store, sometimes even after arriving. I make sure not to counterlist and don't check the field until I've decided.
If I can't decide on something within an acceptable time the answer is simple: Brobots. Hasn't led me astray in tourneys, oddly enough.
If you know a month ahead or don't know 10 minutes before dials down is all fine. Though as a matter of class, I'd suggest figuring it out before you see what your prospective opponents are flying.
I usually have a build or two put into a tacklebox. This tacklebox is then put into a Sega Game Gear bag and brought into the place with me. This makes it so that I don't have to lug all my stuff in with me, just one bag and my mat.
I ususally, like PGS, have 1-3 lists set up. If I go to a tournament I will pick one of them if I like it. I love switching those lists up, though, so that doesn't mean much when it comes to how experienced I am with them.
Right now I have Fat Kanan/Biggs, dual K-Wings and a nice list with 2 Gamma Squadron Bombers, the Inquisitor and a Black Crackshot TIE. The former and latter definitly qualify for a tournament, the K-Wings not so much. Maybe if there is a spring kit tourney I can go to.

Define casual tournament... Those two words don't typically go together.
I favor the imperial, so I have 2 builds for them and one each of the other two factions pre-built. I like having the option of playing for what ever faction is getting the least love. In my area there are a lot of Rebel players so I tend to get to play Imperial. I have a really fun Scum build that I bring out just to mix it up. So if you are going to just have fun, build a fun list. I have a Decimator Phantom combo that is extremely fun.
My list selection goes through phases (regardless of tournaments).
1. The messing around phase - just playing with ships that I find fun or don't play with very often, but which aren't likely to win a lot of competitive stuff.
2. Trying out some competitive builds - looking at the most efficient combinations to see which ones suit my play-style and will result in wins. During this phase I'll proxy/borrow cards and contemplate what I need to purchase to run certain lists.
3. Picking the exact same Ace/Swarm list I've played since I took the game up, because I have no imagination, and playing as the empire and NOT having Darth Vader in my list seems wrong.
