I can't convince myself to use any EPT except PTL. I also find myself not playing small ships that don't have an EPT, because they can't have PTL. I'm addicted. Please help! Convince me that something else is better.
Slave to PTL

Play Juke Vader to start to wean yourself off your PTL addiction. Predator Tie/D defenders, Juke Vessery, even FCS Redline.
*snicker* "Play Vader" to wean off PtL. I see what you did there
Play something with a terrible dial and no repositioning options. That'll do it.
Or something without EPTs.
im quite the opposite, unless its an intercepter i find it hard to use PTL at all. The stress issue on a great deal of imperial ships can be a real thorn.
All of the advice I could give is focused on getting multiple actions from other sources so I don't really have anything to add here. Playing ships that get 2+ actions a turn is pretty good and feels pretty good, unsurprising.
Try running something like Predator or Lone Wolf instead. They increase your ship's action economy like PTL does, lets you use your ship's full dial, and gives you a modification even if you can't perform actions. After you get used to not having PTL and using your full dial you may find it easier to use something else.

Specifically Vader with a useful EPT. Once he gets used to having a useful EPT, he can start looking at other forms of action economy like FCS, Predator, Vessery and so on.
PtL is awesome, but if your dial lacks greens, then things like predator and outmaneuver become better.
BBBBZ
XXXXZ
AC/DC
TIE Swarm
Space cows
Ask yourself why do you PTL so much, is it the token stack or repositioning? Perhaps those things are what you are really addicted to.
k-wing
no ept; no need
small base
and, of course
conners > PTL

Are you talking Casual games or Tournament games?
play several games vs a stress bot. you wont want to PTL much after that.
Slave 2? It's garbage, don't bother with PTL. Fett should have stuck with Firesprays.
Usually before plugging in PTL on a capable ship I usually ask myself the following questions:
- Does the ship have more than 3 actions on it's Action Bar.
- Does the ship have a decent amount of Green Maneuvers.
- Low-PS (F/E Turtling) , Mid-PS (over/under) , or High-PS (Br/Bs Arc Dodging)
- What role is the ship? (damage, support, tank)
- What other EPTs increase Role Specialization
- (post match) Was the action flexibility of PTL game defining?
- (post match) Was there any engagement where Expose would have been game changing? And could I recreate that moment.
- (post match) When not using PTL approximately how may uses would PTL been more effective
- (post match) would a cheaper more specialized EPT allowed for better points allocation elsewhere (ex. On an Ace)
- (post match) What other action economy options are available? (pilot ability, SL, EI, ect.)
Another question to ask yourself is: IF PTL was unique like Experimental Interface what other options would I take and who would take PTL.

This.
I broke my stress list out against a friends 3 interceptor list...
He understands now that interceptors are not the be all end all.
I like predator. Same point cost, acts like a free mini target lock. Thing is, you don't have to spend an action on it and you don't have to predetermine your target before hand. Attini mindlinks have become very crucial in my tournament squad. Now, I'll point something out to you. I know why you are hooked on ptl, and it's for the same reason I was. It's because of that action economy. It feels very necessary to have tokens stacked on you to remain competitive. Wanna know how I changed tactic? The stress. It restricts you to greens, or to whites without that action economy that you paid for. This makes you predictable, and no amount of token stacking will save you when your opponent lines up all his shots on you simply cause he knew where you'd be. Don't be predictable. The only pilots I use ptl on anymore is Dash, corran, and soontir. Used to be on tycho but rage became better for him. Just remember, maneuverability and unpredictability are key. 1 action and not being in firing arcs is much better then 2/3 tokens + stress + rolling greens against reds. Ptl is an easy action economy, but there are better ones out there. And you've taken the first step by admitting your addiction young panda-won. The next step, is to replace ptl with free action economy. Hope this helps
Fly ships with less green maneuvers that can't benefit for PTL as much.

Use lists based around Attanni Mindlink.
IG-88B and D each with Mindlink, FCS, HLC, Feedback, Autothrusters, and IG-2000. It's particularly effective.
It works better that push the limit does on Brobots. You have FCS, both probably have a focus, and one of them can sloop a turn. Plus you have extra points leftover for Feedback, so the Palp Aces matchup isn't too bad.
So you've slooped, gotten a focus, and you have a target lock. Can't do that with PtL and advanced sensors. You can do it with adrenaline rush but only once a game.
@OP: Try this guy out:
Keyan Farlander + Advanced Sensors + Rage + Advanced Proton Torpedoes + Extra Munitions + B-Wing/E2 + Jan Ors
Many options:
- Advanced Sensors: Rage, convert focus to evade, green maneuver to clear one of the stress, attack to clear the other stress, rage allows reroll of up to 3 dice.
- Advanced Sensors: target lock, red maneuver (B-Wing going fast) into range 1, attack using Advanced Proton Torpedoes (convert up to 3 blanks to focus), spend stress to change focus to hits.
- Advanced Sensors: barrel roll to the side of a large ship, 2K-turn, fire point-blank with a stress to spend like focus on attack.
I am addicted to Squad Leader Darth Vader. I feel it's pretty much the same issue. But really, I'm finding it hard to not put Squad Leader Vader in my team. This is basically Push the limit for him or any nearby ally that could need it at a given time, and without stress. It gives so much adaptaability, especially if said allies have barrel roll.
Slave 2? It's garbage, don't bother with PTL. Fett should have stuck with Firesprays.
Slave 3! It's wonderful! I don't know anything about it but they give me a bucket of krill for every patient I send.

If you enjoy that combo, you try this out..
Vader + Decoy
Turr Phennir + SL + EI
(+salt to taste)
I get that PTL is good and all but put engine upgrade on large based ships and watch them arc dodge.. Now that's fun..
I think the people you play with doesn't know how to counter PTL.. They need to be able to put a few stress on you, combined with the stress that you are causing would shut you right down... Everyone has there favorite build.. Personally I enjoy playing Imperial's but play the other factions on occasion.. There is nothing wrong with having favorites.. keep playing what you like until the player's around you start building counters to it. I played Eco and two Interceptors for month's. Until some one brought in a k-wing list and dropped mines all over me.. I still enjoy that list but now I mix it up a little more.
Edited by ozmodonyou don't have to stress to stop PTL
apart from the obvious conners, you can just block it
large ships especially
