Wave 4 is true!

By Lyraeus, in Star Wars: Armada

I think it may be faster but less maneuverable. It has more engines.

I don't know. I can't really see the back of the Liberty...

... and as it is, the MC80 Home one has a butt-ton of Engines for its Speed 2....

You only need one engine to reach Speed 3. This is known.

I am betting Liberty is speed 3 because of Cracken

Won't affect it anyway, Cracken is small or medium only. :(

I'm particularly curious to see a lot more of the upgrade cards. It's interesting that the Interdictor is getting some already-released upgrades (Quad Laser Turrets and Leading Shots). Veteran Gunners seems like a sweet card at first glance, but it's got some stiff competition from Gunnery Teams (for good-big-arc ships) and Ordnance Experts (from black dice ships that can double-arc without too much trouble and Raiders, who want it for flakking as well). I'm curious to try it on ISD-Is and VSD-Is, though. Definitely has some potential.

I'm not sure if anyone has noted that the Interdictor is the first Command 2 medium ship in the game yet.

I'm also interested in the Interdictor having both Weapons Team and Support Crew slots, like the Gladiator. With the Engineering Team, you can net 4 Engineering points from an Engineering token (5/2=3+1), which with Wulff Yularen or Tarkin around can be pretty durable, especially if combined with an Engineering dial for a grand total of 9 Engineering points (8 without the Engineering Team, which is still very respectable). That's not even mentioning the possible shenanigans with Engine Techs and maybe even Nav Teams*.

Definitely lots of neat things going on this wave.

*Protip: probably not Nav Teams. Poor Nav Teams. VSDs want you onboard so badly, but there's no home for you there.

I'm liking the Interdictor for its effect on missions.

  • It makes a great minesweeper because of its decent repair capacity. Plot a repair command for turns 1 and/or 2 and just repair the damage after your ship rams the mine allowing friendly ships to follow.
  • G7x gravity wells can be used on enemy hyperspace assault arrival points or at least on the one closest to where you intend to travel. It forces enemy to come in at speed 0 or arrive at a further out token or arrive with a nav command which stops carriers like Yavaris being so deadly.
  • G7x make Fleet ambush be really deadly now and they are not unique. Sometimes the ambush zone gets congested with all the obstacles and a gravity well token or two can make this really nasty. If you are being ambushed then place a Grav token just outside the ambush zone to put enemy ships at speed zero on turn one or at last shift the enemy deployment over a little.
  • G7x can be added to a minefield you deploy to cut off some areas and make your mines more useful.
  • G7x could be used against your own forces to slow you down in Contested outpost games or fire lanes. Begin speed zero and plot a few nav commands to get underway when the enemy approach.

I think it'll at least find a home on your One Big Ship that you want available for Advanced Gunnery. I'll probably take VG instead of GT on a Liberty so I can pull Leading Shots out of the ion slot to make room for a blue crit effect.

My disdain for leading shots on ISD just increased by orders of magnitude... veteran gunners please

The thing about veteran gunners is you have to re roll all of your dice, not just the blanks or ones you want to. Makes it far riskier when you have to re roll a lot of red dice. I think it can be useful to help prevent a completely disastrous roll however. Curious to see the other upgrade cards as I am sure there will be plenty that will also give us some great options.

Between Wave 3 and Wave 4 we will have so many strategic options to create a list....going to be hard to find a fleet that doesn't have some very hard counters to it. It's going to be fun!

Anyone else mildly miffed about the Interdictor having only a single title (and the Liberty also having three?!)?

It's sort of petty, but I like titles :P

Four Experimental Retrofits... Two of which are unique. They're probably better than Titles.

Hmm, good point :P

Great to see these added to the Armada range. It would be cool if FFG release scenarious online to support all new waves: As the Interdictor is the nightmare of Rebel Alliance fleets trying to flee superior Imperial forces, it would be interesting to a get an offical, story-driven, scenario that has the Rebels at a numerical/points disadvantage and trying to flee an ambush/evacuate a planet, with victory determined by ships retreating off-board, or captured by the Empire.

The Wave III ships would also invite supporting scenarios built around protection/destruction of troop transports and convoys. A story, some rules and that lovely, thematic FFG Star Wars art would be an extra incentive to purchase each ship they release. And now, back to admiring the Wave IV ships... :)

Looks like by the end of the year we will have everything necessary to recreate this:

The interdictor was much tougher than I thought it would be with 9 hull. Slap on motti and it would have the same durability as an ISD. If it can carry engineering teams and have tarkin it might be able to push a natural 7 engineering points.

This might be the new imperial shield medic if it has that defensive slot too.

Yeah but you have to reroll ALL of your dice.

You mean 6 Engineering team right?

Yeah but you have to reroll ALL of your dice.

If you have vader and such you can mitigate all of that.

it can hit 9 engineering points

With Token yes.

I think Liberty is going to be my pimp ride for Antillies....squadron 2 becomes 4.

Tarkin just became an even more lethal weed dealer...

Well there you go

Biggest benefit of General Nadine is going to be the MC80. Which can now use engine techs to actually turn all the way around.

Rebels are definitely getting an incredible ship this wave, Imperiale look promising but I need to see more stats, especially the maneuver options.

9 Engineering, plus the flotillas remove a single damage card upgrade, could have some serious capability to remove damage cards.

I am looking forwards to seeing what the Imperial commander does, after flotilla's gave the rebels Montferrats ability, and Madine making them more maneuverable, Motti already adds health, so more damage dealing capacity? or something to do with squadrons?

I dare say, we'll find out in Early July :D
