Challenge Coin Challenge

By atkrull, in X-Wing

I am just spit balling here but I had an idea for an independent Premier X Wing Event that would pit the best of the best against each other. So what I came up with is the Challenge Coin Challenge (needs a new name). The premise is in order to participate in the tournament your fee is a Store Championship Challenge Coin, plus maybe a $10 fee. The format is each player must bring 1 list from each faction. 6 rounds of swiss. You are only allowed to play each list twice. Setup is similar to the hangar bay where you see each squad of your opponents and pick one of your remaining squads that you can pick from. Then each player reveals their squad and play a normal 75 min. match. At the end of 6 rounds of swiss the top cut (8) can then choose 1 of their three squads to use for the remainder of the single elimination rounds.

Players that make the top cut get their challenge coin back. Then the the Top 4 players receive 2 challenge coins. Then then the top 2 receive 3 challenge coins, with the champion netting the remaining challenge coins. ( Challenge coin distribution may vary depending on participating players)

I know this excludes a lot of players but this format is designed to showcase the best of the best.

The format itself seems fun, however I'd be hesitant to risk a challenge coin on it. Them shield tokens tho

As the Owner of only one challenge coin, I would be a little hesitant.

What would I do with a ton of the same challenge coin?

Shield tokens.

No wahay would I use a challenge coin. I love all of mine too much.

For this format, I would expand the cut to top 16. Each person in the cut gets 2 challenge coins. Their own, and a "bounty" coin. When you lose in elimination, you give the person who beat you your challenge coin, and sign your name on it, making it a more meaningful trophy. So the higher up you get in elimination, the more extra coins you collect (still only giving away your one coin when you lose). The winner gets coins signed by the whole top 16. Depending on the number of players, there might be some extra, which can be placed in a burlap sack and kept by one's bed for self-defense in case of a break in.

I really really like that idea

Only 2 ppl in my community have coins XD

I know more people who have gotten coins by lack of attendance. I know lots of people that deserve to have a coin and we're just outside.

No thanks.

I dont get to travel to bigger tournaments, literally the only coin i have is because someone who moved away DID goto all those tournies and had like 15 coins so he donated them to the store's local tourny winning pot. 6 people got coins, i barely snagged the last one lol.

Not risking that coin!!

This tournament wouldn't be for everyone. Most of the participants would be those people who have more than one coin and are willing to "put a little skin in the game". Its meant to be a hyper competitive competition, high risk high reward sort of thing.

You could make the coin a requirement to have but I wouldn't put it on the line

What if everyone gets a free coin to start. Then yes. I would.

this format is designed to showcase the best of the best.

^this and having coins don't actually go together....

so far the only challenge coin challenge I've done is to see if I can hit them 200 meters down range :P

love the tournament format Idea tho
