Solve This Situation: Corran vs. Ryad and Vessery in the Late Game

By TasteTheRainbow, in X-Wing

Corran has no stress to clear.

Ryad - 1 bank left, attempt to clear crit then PTL focus

Vessery - 4 K-turn

Corran - Adv sensors BR left - PTL evade, get some back motion to get behind Vessery after its K-turn, but enough forward motion to 3 straight to behind the asteroid - losing stress, regen a shield. Hopefully out of arc of vessery, fade a R2 obstructed shot from ryad with evade.

Then Corran wants to adv sensors focus then 3-Kturn the following turn and try to finish off Ryad w/ double tap if necessary. Then go for Vessery.

Edit: Derp .. forgot adv sensors means I couldnt evade after moving. Changed to Adv sensors BR PTL evade instead.

Corran has no stress to clear.

Oh, yeah. That does make a difference.

Hmmm....actually....it only makes a difference if Col Vessery doesn't do that K-turn and stop you from doing an action before you go. If he doesn't then great! I still might do the 2 bank if I feel I can clear the asteroid. The 1 forward to BR and Boost behind the rock is a good way to go, though, if I don't think I can bank it.

Still...just seeing how many people would either K-turn with the Countess or do the 1 Bank does justify the bug out 5 straight with Corran. The 1 bank would leave no shot for the turn from the Countess. It would give you some time to regen some sheilds and try to catch them in a bad spot.

Corran barrel rolls toward the board edge and evades, then banks around the rock to regen a Shield and clear stress. Vess will have probably K-turned and not have a shot, and the countess will be banking inward or kturning most likely.

Vessery does a 4k, ryad does a 5k target locks and tries to flip ths crit face down.

No idea about corran I don't play him.

Wonder why I don't have FCS instead of AdvSens.

Maybe its because Advanced Sensors are incredibly awesome?

The issue for Corran here though, is that he's too close to the rock. As a general rule, when flying advanced sensor Corran, ALWAYS keep your 1 banks open for those ever-so-sweet pre-dial boosts (if you can, anyway!). Not that I'm being overly critical here....I suspect Corran got himself there taking a bit of a risk hoping it would pay off with some serious double tap damage on Vess (although doesn't seem like it paid off...)

So since Corran is not in a good position here, its probably best to flee and hope the defender player gets his ships a bit split up so Corran can get a round of shooting with only one shooting back (he can probably handle that, although Vessery with TIE/D is a scary prospect!)

Now, if Corran were a little farther back, he could just dial in a 2 right bank and not only regen a shield, but use advanced sensors to avoid both firing arcs (because advanced sensors rock!). However, since he's too close to open up the pre-dial boost left, Corran has to settle for a 3 right bank and possibly end the turn stressed (but at least he won't get shot and has lots of time to not only regen a shield later, but get turned back into the fight).

Why does 3 right bank work? Because Vessery only has one good move: k-turn. Ryad has 3 possible decent moves: 1 bank (best for Corran, worst for the Imperial), 3 straight (to block the 'obvious' corran right hard turns) and some k-turn (5k probably best, but none of them good enough to get a shot on Corran).

So here's how it goes:

-If Ryad does a k-turn, then Corran uses advanced sensors to barrel roll left behind Vess' k-turn (I admit its tight, but looking closely at the distances, I think it will fit) then boost Left, hopping right over Vessery and then revealing the 3 bank right ending up in a nice spot behind Ryad, although stressed.

-If Ryad does either the 1 bank or 3 straight (or any not-a-k-turn), then Corran barrel rolls/boosts right (both right) and then reveals the 3 bank right and ends up stressed but beyond range 3 of Vessery.

Textbook move for Rebel in this position (outside of silly plot armor joust that they win) is to hyperspace out.

Vessery goes 2 straight and rolls to the left. That blocks all AS BR from Corran to his right, giving him only straight onto the asteroid or into the corner. Countess goes 1 bank left or k-turn (not sure, k-turn is only nice if I expect Corran to go hard right which I don't), either clearing crit or TL, even a BR to the right might look good for messing with Corran next turn.

As for Corran, my first impulse was 1 straight. Not sure if that's a good move. Limits me to that area. Better do a 2 right or some 3-ish move - or really take the risk and go full speed over asteroid, get even more distance next turn with boost and BR (or TL one if BR isn't needed, for extra punch on the comeback move) and then come back when regenerated.

Corran BR left, evade, 2 straight behind rock and regen a shield.

Vess is most likely doing 4k, which won't get a shot. He also won't be able to get arc on you next turn.

Countess might get a shot but it'll be range 3 through a rock. She's unlikely to do damage.

Next Turn:

BR left with Corran, focus, bank right. Vess is not shooting you if he 4k'd last turn because there's a rock. You're probably trading shots with Countess this turn but you're back to full shields and she's almost dead. Good chance of killing her.

Once Countess is dead the game is over. Corran is just too slippery to get shot at unless he gets severely outguessed.

Ryad will do a 4 K-turn and gain an evade. That has a good chance of blocking Corran from ADV.S. BR left back and shooting 3 straight to the left side of the rock.

Vessery will 1 straight (to clear stress) and BR back left to get in behind Corran. This will prevent Corran from ADV.S. BR right.

Corran must do a green move to regen a shield and try to get a ship in arc OR not get shot by Vessery. He can't shoot next round so run away it is.

Therefor Corran will ADV.S boost to the right (and hopefully clear the asteroid) and then 2 turn to the right to get out of arc on Vessery and take a range 2 shot from a 2 dice Ryad. If Vessery does a 1 straight to block a 2 turn, ADV.S. BR right and then 2 turn to get Corran to either bump or get behind Vessery. Then 3 straight boost to run and regen shields.
