Dash + Lothal Rebel: Which Version?

By voidstate, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm almost set on my squadron for the next tournament I play in but I just can't decide which version of the VCX-100 to play.

Which of these would you find harder to beat?

Basically, it comes down to a R1 turret that is nasty against aces and Han's improvements to the target locks from the FCS, or regen to allow Dash to keep attacking from the sidelines longer.

Never been convinced by R2-D2 crew as it seems a very risky way to regen. If you have 4 points and want to make the VCX more durable, I think Chewie crew would be better.

You could also put Ezra on the Lothal Rebel. With Hera you stay stressed (and add stress doing red maneuvers), use fire control, and Ezra let's you turn a focus result into a crit when you're stressed. Gonna try this as soon as I go pick up a YT-2400. Can't believe I've waited this long to pick one up.

Nah, Han is still better. 1 point cheaper and if you roll more than 1 eyeball, Ezra sucks. And keep in mind that you roll 4 or 5 dice, more than one is quite probable..

You may think about dropping HLC to Mangler on Dash (lose 1 red die, but don't worry about R1 and may use Dash as a blocker against aces), and get Chopper (useful while fighting triple jumpmasters).

Yeah, I just don't have Han. Maybe if I proxy him or borrow. Kinda tired of buying epic ships for upgrade cards at this point.

Thanks for the ideas, everyone.

I've been thinking, and it occurred to me that maybe a better way of increasing the Ghost's survivability was to switch to a TLT (which synergises nicely with the FCS) and use the massive movement options to stay at range or keep out of arc? It would mean having to downgrade the HLC on Dash to a MAngler, though. :(

Something like:

I don't think either the TLT or TJ are good choices for the Ghost. It has a pretty fast dial and, outside the first volley, most of the match will happen up close. ABT always wins in my book, but there could be a case for dorsal., TLT is just SOOOOO expensive for something the Ghost doesn't even WANT to use. TJ never works, unless there is a Biggs on the table. This is especially true if Dash in on the table. He is on the fringes firing pot shots so everyone will just deal with the brick in the middle of the table. And dropping HLC off Dash is always a bad idea. The R1 argument doesn't hold up if you are running PtL/EU, nothing can stay in R1 then.

I agree. TLT is expensive and any turn you are firing it means you are wasting the Ghost's impressive primary weapons. ABT or Dorsal turret (at a pinch) to protect you flanks are fine but they should not be regarded as your main firepower.

TJ is mostly only worth taking with Biggs. With PS7, EU and Barrel Roll, keeping opponents outside the Outrider's doughnut hole should not be too hard. Even against enemy ships with Boost and BR, there are going to be times when they cannot get into your doughnut hole AND still be facing the right way to shoot at you. Putting an Intel Agent on the Ghost is an option if you are really worried but personally I still Hera + Han is the best option for a cheap Ghost.

How about:

42 Lothal Rebel (35), Fire-Control System (2), ABT (2), Hera Syndulla (1), Han Solo (2)

58 Dash Rendar (37), Push the Limit (3), HLC (7), Kanan Jarrus (3), Outrider (5), Engine Upgrade (4)
