As someone who works graves, and have to travel to most major events, I'm usually up 30-40 hours. I am against 2 day events mostly due to the fact that I work weekends so it is another day to ask off. I understand though, that for the most part two days help a lot, but for some, they would rather just spend a single, albeit very long, day to X-wing and not two.

A lot of people dropped in the top 8 in the fresno regional and it still went till like 2 am and it started at 10 am so I think 2 day events might start to be more common

As the TO for the fresno regional, only one person dropped from the cut before it started. I moved 9th in after awarding the top 8 prizes. James had to leave after the first round though because of family, so only a total of two people dropped. Surprisingly, out of 57 people, I only had 5 drop before the cut. I think the participation prizes kept people playing. Tossed in 2 copies of my Open series double sided art cards for a drawing for anyone that finished all Swiss rounds.

Did none of you guys play any miniatures games before X Wing? Two day tournaments are a wargaming standard.

nope - the recent uptick in table-top gaming popularity the past couple of year, the game itself, and the license has brought in many new gamers and younger players that have never played other competitive table top games before. Not every one that enjoys this game is a 40 yr old 12 side die neckbeard

I say we could run more regional events. Is there a requirement to running them? Maybe we ought to look at running more events in more locations rather than stretching out the already apparently maxed out resources of the events we already have.

Well (and this is another 'old wargamer' thing) it's entirely possible to run your own tournaments without any input from FFG. Buy some prizes, hire a venue, charge enough per ticket to cover your costs, and away you go! And here's the crazy part: You can run it however you want. Want to do 150 points? Sure! Want to award a prize for the best repainted ship? No worries! Want to include wacky scenarios or 1-ship furballs? You got it!

We don't need FFG to hold our hands and give us kits to run tournaments.

It does seem to mean that the US needs more regionals.

I don't think that would help. People in my area would just hit them like they do Store Championships.

More regionals, add a cap, advertise to locals first.

Even top 16 can be done in 1 day when you start early. If its advertised as 2 then I know not to go

Believe it or not but many people do have lives out side of X Wing/gaming finding time to take 2 days for tournaments is hard with family work and other commitments

I love tournaments and will do everything I can to get to one to test my skill against other players also doing there best to beat all comers. But remember this is a game we play for fun it is not something to build your life around or sacrifice your life for. Please try to keep that in mind

Where I come from, 2-day events are the norm. No-one sane would even consider playing from 9am till midnight+. Every Regional in Poland is a 2-day event, usually with a side event for the people who don't make the cut so they have something to do on day 2 (Hangar Bay being the most popular this season).

But I guess we're strange, cos we like to have a decent lunch break during Swiss rounds and go out and have a drink in the evening with fellow players from different parts of the country.

Store championships sometimes end around 10pm and that's considered way too long, but doing top4 on a separate day is impossible so that's the price for reaching the top

If 30 people show up from the local area, and 4 show up from out of town, then imo that's not a very good regional tournament.

If a Game is popular there should be a large number of players that represents the surrounding area.

And when its a two day event, do you book your hotel for one days or two?

I have kids and I love spending time with them. Taking one dayoff such as a Saturday off isn't that bad, but having to put in two days off I don't like.

That's two days I choose to play with plastic spaceships with grown men, instead of my kids

Since regional do seem to cater to locals more, then maybe they should increase regional locations.

If you look at the numbers at a regional, how many are there within a 20 km radius, vs 120 km radius?

Living close by is easy to make a two day event. You get to sleep in your own bed regardless how you do

I have a grate job that makes me very happy and the only 2 day events I got to are nationals as that is something I see as worth it but a store champs or regionals why make 8 people come back 4 for 1 game how anyone could see this a logical just blows my mind. Or am I one of the few that has a life out side of gaming?

My biggest fear is that once a few stores start to do it others might follow and soon events that have 5 round will make people come back the next day to play top 8 FOR NO GOOD REASON other then to fill seats in there stores and try to squeeze more out of players trying to run a side event, as I have seen in the past, to pass off old stock that's been sitting on the shelf as a good prizes

I see you don't know the difference between a few hardening up and going a little bit longer over sacrificing the time and rescores of many others for the benefit of that few

Two day event means less time with kids, more money to spend, which could be used for better things like taking the whole family on a trip

Doing it in one day, leaving those from away traveling with little sleep and exhausted increasing the risks of driving late at night.

Maybe games should be 60-65 min instead of 75?

Maybe if I lived 15 min drive, two days could be fine, I can sleep and eat at my house and still see my kids for part of the day and tuck them in.

Every single 2 day event I have participated in has a sideevent on day 2 for those who do not make the cut.

Yes dont cos when you do you will find you'll syart to love them and want to spend time with them and it causes grate conflict between spending time with them over rolling dice. The worse bit is the as much fun you have making pew pew noises kids make you happier

Its an unfortunate (for you) reality that the majority of Organizers, TO´s and players think that events with 5-6 matches+cut is better suited for 2 day events.
Getting angry over it is really not constructive.

Instead you could prioritize and go only to a few of the 2-day events instead of a lot of them, or start organizing your own 1 day events.
