Tractor Beam vs. Valon Rudor

By SmartCookie, in X-Wing Rules Questions

If I shoot Valen Rudor with a tractor beam and barrel roll him, can he then barrel roll straight back. Or even more fun, do anoher barrel roll in the same direction as I rolled him?

And if it is a TIE/D Defender shooting, will Valon do his action before the primary attack from the TIE Defender?

IIRC the tractor beam isn't performing an action, which means he can perform his free action (and go either direction). I need to check the wording, but my understanding is he will perform his free action between the TIE/D attack (same as with Gunner).

Very very unclear right now.

Valen's FAQ suggests that this would be dependent on initiative, i.e. if he had init he could take his action first, if the Defender had init it would shoot first - but many of us in this forum are expecting another FAQ to further clarify.

He can definitely barrel roll back the way he came or on in the same direction in response, assuming he has not yet done a barrel roll action (free or otherwise) that turn, and the BR template would not cross any obstacles..

If I were ruling it, I'd say that Valen always got to take his action between the TIE/D's shots, personally.

Yes Valen Rudor can barrel roll if he hasn't already done so. And as thespaceinvader states, currently initiative resolves who can act first after the attack.

Not if you barrel roll him onto an asteroid or off the table! Sweeeeeeeet!

You can't barrel roll him off the table. But obstacles work

Not if you barrel roll him onto an asteroid or off the table! Sweeeeeeeet!

And he can barrel roll off an obstacle assuming the BR template doesn't cross the bostacle.

Asteroids only cause you to skip your Perform Action step during the activation phase, you can perform actions on them as normal at any other time if you have a way to trigger them, like... Valen for instance :)
