Classic movie Rebels with a twist

By Sanguinary Dan, in X-Wing Squad Lists

This is a bit of a strange list. I've based it on a similar list that had Poe, a Green Squadron A-Wing and a HLC on the B-Wing. The biggest problem I ran into was lack of reliable (modifiable) firepower. Poe never seemed to score more than 1 or 2 hits and the HLC was just... meh. Am I on a better track here? Or am I giving up too much by going to the T-65 and pouring points into Tycho?

[ REBEL SQUADRON (99 points)

1 • Wedge Antilles - R5-P9 - Crack Shot - Integrated Astromech (33)

2 • Keyan Farlander - Adaptability +1 - Hera Syndulla - Fire-Control System - B-Wing/E2 (33)

3 • Tycho Celchu - Rage - Push The Limit - Proton Rockets - Guidance Chips - A-Wing Test Pilot (33)

I would be curious to see if you can't throw Rage onto Keyan. It's a fantastic EPT for him, and would make FCS not necessary, which would help throw either R2-D2 on Wedge, Autothrusters on Tycho, or you could drop to an R2 or R5 Astromech on Wedge and give him Outmaneuver. A few other options are available too, but that's what I could think of at the moment.

The only problem with Rage on Keyan is clearing the Stress before I can use it again. So I either do a green maneuver and shoot, hard to do in a B at knife fight range, or just dawdle around with green moves hoping I don't get shot. That's not to say I may not give it a try. Just that I'm not certain it'll be worth the points for occasional use.

I'll crunch the numbers on your suggestions. Thanks.

If Keyan shoots, he spends a stress to change any focus results, even zero. Now you only have 1 stress to clear. Is that to much for Keyan? He could potentially Rage every round, but he'll be easy to predict and outmaneuver.

The more I think about it the more I like Rage on him. It's only a point and it lets me reroll against targets of opportunity. I'll keep FCS for the turns when I can't Rage but want to shoot the same target again. And since Hera lets me ignore Stress for movement I can do anything I want the turn after Rage.

It could work by Jove! It could work! Or not. We'll see.

Could try kanan jarrus crew then give you several good moves instead of 4

With Hera on there, aren't limited by the moves you can do. Honestly, with Keyan/Hera combo, you can concentrate on doing the correct maneuver for positioning regardless of its color. If you get more stress, you get to modify your attacks with it. If you clear stress, you can Rage and get even more offensive potential. It's an awesome combo and worth the 3 points you invest in it (mod, EPT, crew).

Kyle Katarn is another good crew for Farlander. Put Jan Ors on on the table, too. She has great synergy with Katarn , and it gives the B-Wings much needed evades.

The problem with Kyle and Jan is that they make the B-Wing an expensive HWK and not a better dogfighter. They do bring good support, I just don't think they're appropriate to this list.

With Keyan and Rage, if you have Jan Ors as crew, then that focus from Rage which you dont need, turns into an evade token. Potential for Keyan to have 2 evades per round.

Adv Sensors Rage Keyan, can Rage, do a grn, then shoot. This leaves him stressless and can then have his dial open for next round. If you plan to do a grn, then always Rage first. If you plan to do a red, focus first, let Jan turn to evade. Whites are now the bad guy with Keyan.

Keyan + Adv Sensors + Rage + Title + Jan Ors = 36pts (same cost as jsut tossing an HLC on him)

Exactly the combo I use on him. Caveat is Jan only works once per round, so keep that in mind. I use this with an HLC version, so it's quite expensive, but it works extremely well. If you want a better knife fighter, then Rage probably isn't the best choice. I would go with Stay on Target at that point, and utilize that to keep your stress every turn. Here's a knife fighting build for him:

Keyan Farlander — B-Wing 29

Stay On Target 2

Advanced Sensors 3

Navigator 3

B-Wing/E2 1

Ship Total: 38

Still a little expensive, but you can drop whatever you see you don't like. The Navigator with Stay on Target allows you to choose any maneuver on your dial after the lower PS ships have moved and gives you a stress. Hera drops two points from the cost, and you lose the ability to adjust your speed, however if you can't shoot one turn, it allows you to still use stay on Target for stress next turn. Adv Sensors because your goal is to cause stress, but this way you get your actions as well. Makes for interesting Barrel Rolls to set up a killer maneuver for him, that he'll always be able to select in the Navigator version.

But... But... I like having Hera give me an open dial no matter what my Stress state may be. :( Otherwise I'm just flying another B-Wing and everyone and their granny know how to outmaneuver them.

I may have to trim a few other bits and bobs to get the squad right where I want it, but I just can't see dropping Hera. If I do I'm almost certainly better off taking a different ship with better green dice and a more flexible dial. Aren't I?

Maybe like this?

B-Wing plus (99)

Poe Dameron (35) - T-70 X-Wing

Veteran Instincts (1), R5-P9 (3), Integrated Astromech (0)

Keyan Farlander (38) - B-Wing

Rage (1), Fire Control System (2), Proton Torpedoes (4), B-Wing/E2 (1), Hera Syndulla (1)

Gemmer Sojan (26) - A-Wing

Proton Rockets (3), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Guidance Chips (0), Crack Shot (1)

So folks like it less with Poe and Gemmer? I could always go back to Wedge with VI, R2D2 and EU? But I'm not sure that he's more effective than the tougher Poe.
