Dengar vs RAC with Gunner/Vader

Question regarding Dengar and RAC with gunner/vader:

The Dengar player has initiative, and RAC attacks Dengar in his arc. When do all the abilities trigger?

We played like this: Dengar will shoot before the gunner attack (initiative), RAC still get gunner and Vader AFTER the Dengar attack, but since Vader happens AFTER Dengar attacks, if I have zero hull at that time, I cannot use Vader.

Although I'm interested overall, I'm really interested in when Vader would take effect: before or after Dengar attacks? (the first chance to vader still happens before the gunner attack).

The way I understand that it would work.

1. RAC attacks Dengar, Dengar is not destroyed.

2. Dengar counterattacks. If RAC is destroyed, he is removed from the table and none of the other things resolve.

3. RAC can use Vader from the first attack.

4. RAC uses Gunner for a second attack.

5. RAC can use Vader from the second attack.

That's my understanding as well. Item 2 often trips people up because RAC has had an opportunity to attack and is thus immediately removed.

If that is true, then why does RAC get to his gunner attack if he destroys himself with Vader in his initial attack? I'm not saying you're wrong, but I if that holds I don't see why he should get his gunner attack then, because he got his initial shot during his PS.

Is it because I trigger gunner, then vader, vader kills RAC, but gunner still exists? or the other way around and vader kills RAC during the gunner attack?

Page 12 of the latest FAQ:

If a ship equipped with Darth Vader can attack twice in one round (such as a ship equipped with Gunner or Cluster Missiles), it can use Darth Vader after the first attack and after the second attack. If Darth Vader destroys the ship to which he is equipped, it can still perform its second attack. If Vader is used twice, it must be in this order: Attack, Vader, Attack, Vader.

Gunner and Vader share the same trigger,so both are resolved in the order of your choosing. Vader goes first and then you still resolve Gunner. Because the FAQ says so.

Yes, but if Vader goes first, I'm below zero hull, and had my normal opportunity to attack, so should be dead, instead of being able to use the gunner attack.

But since we know (via FAQ) that it doesn't work that way, then shouldn't I get my gunner attack back to Dengar too, even if at zero hull? Basically, how is it different (it may be, but I'm not seeing it).
