different strategies between tournament an regular games

By buondiavolo, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

If you play with a fixed time:
1)every action become very important. Your command card that use an action are usually not chosen .
2)Command card can give you big advantage, so positioning near terminal(s) is a must.
3) some figures like MH15 (the doctor) are not so useful (attack better than cure)
4) some very expensive figure could be ignored for the kill ,because you can win by points,so not necessary arrive to 40 points, just more than your adversary:

So i believe than tournament and regular are TWO DIFFERENT games.

I finally have found a friend to play with me and begin to happen strange :o things.
He not go near terminal. He play a litle turtle (may be using time to focus many figures ).
I finish my commands card while him still have to draw them.
Some crazy situuation could happen (only card in deck is Son of Skywalker with Leia or Endless reserve )

Whart do  you think ?

I play with a timer at home, too. ;)

If you play without a timer, some units become incredibly powerful. Vader for example. He's pretty much immortal but doesn't do enough attacks during a timed game. In a game with no time limit, it's quite likely, that he will be the last man standing ...

If you plan to play in tournaments it's a good idea to practice with a timer as DerBaer says. I did the same when practicing for Regionals and it was very helpful in forming a strategy (which was very aggressive to get early kills and points).

Units with more defense like Vader, Boba, and RGC get better without turn time limits because they can survive much longer if you play defensively. Longer games also give your opponents the opportunity to wear them down 1 or 2 damage at a time though, so beware of that too.
