Wave 3 - Accuracy Manipulation

By Amanal, in Star Wars: Armada

Wave 2 for me was all about dice manipulation, Screed, TRC, XI7's, Darth Vader (Commander) and so on.

Wave 3 is looking to be headed toward "Accuracy Manipulation". H9 Turbolasers, Sensor Teams, Home One and Intel Officer to a lesser degree. Our cards that are manipulating dice will continue to be thrown into a fleet. But if a player starts using the Flotillas for anything other than fleet support Accuracy cards can be quite punishing and result in your little bitty ships being removed with ease.

As many ships have a limited set of defense tokens, often with just one key token, even if your opponent isn't taking Flotillas in his fleet they will still see good use. Although many ships do have access to ECM and can avoid this.

I wonder too if we may start to see a little more of the ships with blue dice in their weapon mix a little more often? Anything with a raw accuracy will just make it all the more harder for everything.

I really want to see a transport float into R1 of a ISD1 front side, have it not roll any accuracies, and scatter 9 dice.

With the ISD and Ackbar, for me Wave 2 was ALL THE DICE!!!

Im slowly getting drawn back to trying a VSD2 again... much to my disgust..... VSD2 with gunnery teams is so expensive, but probably useful against anything other than ECM. Maybe add Xi7s and Intel officer. But then you also have a big fat target that is still marginal in its ability to get to fire for full effect....

The way I roll dice this is about a 50/50 most times. :P

Well really this wouldn't be too far off - if the blues don't give you an accuracy the reds are even less so. Something to be careful of, especially if you have no commands available to fly past the bloddy thing.

I think this whole community is a bit overreacting to the scatter token flotillas have.

Just think it this way: Howlrunner had scatter since start, but that never stopped common enemy squadrons to explode her.

3 blue dice hit an accuracy usually. That's what squadrons face.

Funny enough. Most ships don't have that many blue dice.

Raiders aren't used that often and aren't that scary. Cr90 and shrimp blue versions are rarely used.

It's the Reds mostly. Glad VSD ISD1

The ISD2 and home one are the only ones with a bunch of blue dice.

That said the damage system in this game is really well thought out and probably had these scatter flotillas in mind. I'm very impressed by this facet of armada.

(But I wished that ships could shoot much farther than they could move, but it would be a different game at that point. )

Yeah but having your 110 point + star destroyer stuck doing nothing productive and locked in position is a bit more of a crimp in your plans than howlrunner getting exploded at some point.

My point is that no defense token is a get out of jail free card. The most obvious counter to flotillas with scatter token would be squadrons, and since flotillas generally aim at boosting your squadron force, flotillas will counter flotillas, with no need for H9 turbolaser and such. Also, remember that they can be rammed to death in 3 hits with no damage in return: that's not much when having engine techs.

However, I agree some ship will see more use, Mc30 torpedo being the most obvious.

I think the raider-ii will see some more love. Cheap, stable plattform for blues, highly maneouverable, command 1. With a CF thats 4 blues at medium range, and the Anti squadron capability on top might also become more valuable if flotillas will have the assumed effect on the squadron game.

I'm already seeing a bit of this one on Vassal. Raider-II, often with Kallus and Ruthless Strategists. Should be good both of AS and anti-flotilla.

Corvette B for Rebels will also be a nice cheap flotilla hunting platform

Use squadrons to attack ships with redirects, use vsd's to shoot ships without redirects. Its admonition that upsets the cart on this one.
