X-Wing Draft!

By Darkcloak, in X-Wing

I've been debating on running a live Fantasy X-Wing Draft for a Summer League. The idea is for league participants to create a squadron of named pilots usable for that squadron only. Each league week, players must field at least one named pilot from their squadron. If shot down, named pilots are flagged as KIA and unusable for the remainder of the league.

I think a sealed expansion game could be fun.

I also think such a thing would be better with 2 packs per person instead of one. Give a pts limit of 50 or 75 points on it.

The problem some people have with sealed is getting product that they already have enough of.

or getting stuff they have no interest in.

The answer to that might be a 'semi-sealed' tournament where instead of new product each person brings a ship or two and all the expansion cards that came with it, and everyone drafts from those. After the tournament, each ship and all cards are returned to their original owners, and winners/losers are awarded prizes separately from the ships themselves.

In this, you're not competing for the ships themselves, but for other product; it'd be better IMHO because that way the entry fee is a lot lower.

OR do what my local shop is doing.

24 person tournament.

£50 entry fee

You get a 'random' box containing roughly 5 small ships or 3 small and a large from the same faction

Build your list from the contents of your box

Play

Normal prize support but you all go home with the entire contents of your box as well.

Boxes are built by the shop before hand (in secret) to avoid ending up with unplayable combinations.

It's the closest thing we can figure out to X-Wing 'Sealed'.

Hmmm... LVL UP?

Sir, Yes Sir! Not sure how it will pan out but it feels like it should be a lot of fun. The entry is well worth it but it's perhaps a little steep for some people. Not sure it can be done any cheaper and provide enough product to be viable.

I expect I'll see you there :)

Really depends on what else is happening on the day. I want to be there but sometime 'real life'..........

like multiple range rulers and alt art cards? at-least with a ship i can paint it or something.... one of the reasons i like the STAW blind draw system is the sheer variety of ships. Also the blind system forces you to fly/build something you might not normally do use as you HAVE to build with whats in the blind pack...
