What will this do for me?

By Weirdo, in X-Wing

I'm a casual player who was just given his first Lambda as a gift. I'm all about indirect force multipliers, but this thing's got so many upgrades and options, that I'm kinda suffering from information overload right now. What exactly can this bird do for me?

The two most common options are just putting Palpatine on the base version, or just putting Darth Vader on the base version. It is a cheap crew carrier with decent health for the Empire.

If you find you like it, electronic baffles can greatly increase its maneuverability. Some people have been using Captain Yorr for the removal of stress from your squad and the PS4.

Try to resist the urge to load it up too much, it is pretty sluggish and generally if someone gets behind you you are eventually dead, with not a lot of options.

for 21 points, 10 health(total) behind 1 agility its the most point effieceint beast in the arsenal, just dont let anything behind it.

for 24 points load it with vader, point and crit.

f0r 29 points you have your very own palp shuttle (as seen in 90% of imperial lists)

for 25 points (each) you can have your very own Bafflao Herd. thats 4 x Shuttle(21) with Tractor Beam (1) Tactician (2) and E-Baffle (1) for the most hilarious thing to fly since... well ever really.

with Imp Veterans coming you can load it to be ultimate support ship.

Shuttle (21) Systems Officer [Free targetlock for R1 after performing green move] (2) Fleet Officer [Action: Hand out 2 focus Range 1-2] (3) Advanced Sensors [Perform actions before movement] (3) (29 total) basically you dial in one of the 4 greens Adv Sens - Fleet Officer pass two focus (can keep for self) get stressed. perform Green. Give Target lock to R1, remove stress. Repeat every turn.

It's a dirt-cheap hit-point reservoir.

Put a heavy-laser cannon on it, and some nasty crew (Palpatine is the favorite in competitive circles.) The other guy won't be able to ignore it so it soaks up attention for a round or two while your aces get to work. Be aware though, you really need aces in your list if you field this. It's maneuverability is terrible, so once anything gets behind you, it's over. You need aces to protect it. Lamb+mini-swarm doesn't seem terribly effective, but with aces, it's pretty **** solid. There is a reason why "Palp-mobile+Aces" is a favorite build in the competitive meta.

I use it as a mission objective. Usually as is. But I'm odd

If you really want to know some awesome information about the Lambda shuttle, there are a few really good articles by SableGryphon that are in the Index of Useful links thread that is pinned as the top post. I suggest starting there because the articles are so in-depth. Have fun!

I'm convinced the reason Shuttle + Miniswarm isn't a thing is that not enough people have tried Captain Yorr + Tractor Beam with a Black Squadron Crack Shot miniswarm. Everybody at PS4, and either they burn some tokens on the tractor beam or probably are at reduced agility for the mass fire swarm.

I always put Engine Upgrade on mine when I dust it off. You need that extra movement.

Thanks! A lot of the other advice is either too buried in veteran-player slang or relies on cards I don't have, but these articles should help!

With mine, I always "fly casual".

I don't think FFG had wookiees in mind when they designed it

Double buzzsaws plus an ace is fun on the bun... tough to fly though...

Really I recommend flying shuttles for some time to get the the hang of flying large ships. If you can manage with that dial you can do it with the other dials as well.

I've given this a run on recommendation and it did nicely taking out a double Falcon rebel outlay:

Col. Jendon on a Lambda: ST-321, HLC, Sensor Jammer, Weapons Engineer and Rebel Captive

Col. Vessery on a TIE Defender: Lone Wolf, Ion Cannon

Black Squadron Pilot as the Shuttle escort

Also, I have this on my next Lambda "to try" list forwarded me by a friend:

Lambda's are fun and give a real "real" feel to the game when you're used to fast arc dodging with every ship most of the time. These lists aren't the competitive meta though; but I'm no expert....I just love the game!

It will look boss as **** on the table.

....and, if you want to go full-on dark side, maybe this:

Omicron Group Pilot on a Lambda: ST-321, Advanced Sensors, Emperor Palpatine

Darth Vader in his TIE Advanced: TIE/x1, Predator, Advanced Targeting Computer

Soontir Fel in his 181st TIE Interceptor: Royal Guard Tie, Push the Limit, Autothrusters, Targeting Computer

If you are going full on Dark Side, you should have Jax and not Fel.

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM SHUTTLE!

You could be right about that. I've certainly never tried that build, but I can't remember using my shuttle since Tractor Beam became a thing. (I'm mostly a Reb) I'll put that at the top of my to-do list.

Basically ignore any pilot that isn't omicron group pilot or captain yorr. Also put electronic baffle on it pls, it moves like a dream with that sensor upgrade.

Rule 1: Ignore at your peril: Start in a corner. Fly slowly. Shoot stuff in front of you.

Avoid the urge to blast forward.

Avoid the urge to deploy anywhere other than the corner.

Avoid.

Ignore at your peril.

Missions!

E.g trying to capture it if ionised often enoguh (house rule).

Looks cool as hell on the table!

Surprisingly fast with Engine upgrade, but what a turn radius (predictable, easy to bump).

For fun (as it is too expensive to be competitive) Jendon with ST321 and maybe Weapons Engineer along ordnance loaded stuff.

Isard and Sensor Jammer (expensive combo) makes it live longer (missions!).

I've been trying to come up with a decent Palp-mobile mini swarm to try.

(I'm interested to find out why they're not flown)

I ended up with this...

Omicron Group Pilot (29)

(Lambda-Class Shuttle (21), Emperor Palpatine (8))

Black Squadron Pilot (15) x 3

(TIE Fighter (14), Crack Shot (1))

“Wampa” (14)

Academy Pilot (12)

(But I think I like your squad better AEllingworth)
